    Great review, thank you! Im hugely attracted to these brushes, but am uneasy about the use of fox hair... I don’t normally care about “cruelty free”, but maybe because I don’t care about goats or squirrels lol. Does anyone know how the hair is harvested?

      *** I have pinned this comment because I think it is important for others to know when they consider these brushes. In hindsight, I would have liked to include it in the video but it truly is a complex and murky topic.
      Thank you for watching, commenting, and for this thoughtful question! I have actually been meaning to make a fude "cruelty free" video, but there is a lot I need to research and I am not sure when I will get around to it. I can definitely let you know once I do lol. In the meantime, what I can say regarding cruelty free in fude is that when they are called "cruelty free" the reasoning tends to be that it is because the animals were killed for other reasons first, not to make fude brushes. Whether this classifies as cruelty free will depend on the individual and your personal beliefs, but I do believe the animals are dead and that the "cruelty free" label is misleading. Basically, as long as the fur was a by-product of other industries or reasons to kill the animal (fur industry, food, pest control), I believe the manufacturers can then say the animal was not killed for the purpose of obtaining their fur. But ultimately, I don't believe any of the animals are being brushed, shaved, or that the animals did not suffer.
      For fox hair, I imagine the fur is leftover from the fur industry or best case scenario pest control. Also keep in mind fox is largely farmed for its fur so if it is a by-product of the fur industry I would think it was from a fur farm.

      Fluffy Fude thanks for replying. I’ve often wondered how the hairs of my favourite brushes were harvested, especially since I live in Canada, where (apparently) lots of the grey squirrel hair comes from - we have lots of squirrels but I’ve never heard of a squirrel hair industry. Are they hunted (wouldn’t be hard)? Farm raised? I’m just so curious!

      @@FluffyFude Thank you for your explanation, I agree with your belief on this, while I don't necessarily believe anything is truly cruelty free, I am a little uneasy about the fox fur brushes. Goat hair and squirrel hair are usually by product of other industries, and squirrel is usually from pest control. thank you for the review of these brushes, but I will be skipping these, I'm going to pick up items on my long fude wishlist instead.

      @@keodi1 Hi, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, I really appreciate it! I just wanted to let you know that I really respect and admire your thoughtfulness in deciding which brushes to purchase. I think there should be more transparency around "cruelty free" in fude and how animals are actually impacted. If something doesn't sit well with someone, I think it is wise and admirable that they make the purchasing decisions they are comfortable with. We can all support the businesses we think deserve their support and make a difference, however small it may be 💖

    Hi! I purchased these as well, and was immediately impressed with how soft they were new out of the sleeve. HOWEVER I have been using them for a month now and I feel that they are definitely not as soft as squirrel anymore after washing and use. I do really enjoy how much it "fluffs" though. It's unique to silver fox hair type. I also find that these chikuhodo are slightly softer than the Chinese Qin silver fox brushes.

      @@csskkai Oh interesting, to clarify I mix the liquid shampoo in a small bowl with water, then dip the brushes into the bowl and lather up in my hand. Totally fine to apply the shampoo directly to the brushes but I find I don't need that much and it makes it easier to rinse when it is diluted in a bowl. I hope your brushes maintain their current softness 😊

I definitely would recommend trying out the hairs at least once, they are very unique and interesting. I really enjoy your videos because they're so informative but honestly it's your voice which has me coming back lol! Surely you're an ASMR artist. I also appreciate the marble, china and simple clean lines of your trays juxtaposed against these beautiful instruments. Anywaaaaay I had my eye on these brushes but wondered about the handles. How do people find these unlaquered wooden handles holding up when washed? Don't you have to be very careful the wood doesn't get wet?
    Sonia G brushes are gorgeous to look at. That lacquer bumped the aesthetic big time.
    I'm looking forward to much more from you because I'm new to fude and have a weakness for fine craftsmanship.

      That is a good question - I haven't had many brushes with this type of wood handle before but from what I can tell, it doesn't appear very fragile or delicate. The only one I can think of that I have with a similar wood feel is the Koyudo Fuwafuwa and that one has held up just fine. I can definitely follow up once these have seen daily use. Completely agree there is something special about beautiful lacquer handles like the Sonia G ones! Those handles feel very fancy to hold. Again, thank you for watching and for your support.

    I can't wait for part 2! No rush though 😀.
    The angled cheek brush (Chikuhodo FO-4) is at the top of my wish list, I always enjoy an angled brush from my very limited experience.
    Im glad you mentioned you like to use FO-2 for contouring/bronzer and blush application because I wouldn't have wanted to pick it up for foundation. The FO-5 eye brush looks really big for eye application from the picture online, but the price seems really good for that much fur 😂 so it's tempting. FO-6 and FO-7 look manageable in size though I'm not sure what to use them for or their best application. I am also looking for soft squirrel fur eye brushes. Would love to see a video on your favorite eye brushes!
    I'm pretty sure I will eventually pick up FO-1 and FO-3. Combining info from another video of yours, I'm highly tempted by Koyudo's White Canadian Squirrel brushes. And curious how those brushes compare to the silver fox fur.

    • @FluffyFude
      @FluffyFude  Před 4 lety +1

      Hello again! I was going back through the comments on this video and realized I never replied. Well the Part 2 is finally up lol, only took months... You were spot on with your assessments of the FO-5, 6, and 7. For me the face brushes were the standout brushes but for the price I don't feel the eye brushes were a bad purchases, they just didn't end up being ones I gravitate towards much.
      As for the white canadian squirrel comparison, I am afraid I have a personal bias for the WCS. The few I have are so special to me because I paid an arm and a leg for them and they were somewhat of an anniversary gift. I wish there was a way to do a blind test between the WCS and SF, maybe I will lend them to a friend who doesn't know anything about the hair types 😂. I prefer the SF for everyday use, its more durable and resilient, but I prefer the WCS for picking up powders, there is something about it that makes me think WCS and CS in general pick up and deposit powder more elegantly and diffused, I imagine it has to do with the WCS being more porous vs the SF being more silky (but that's just my guess until I stick them under a microscope 😂). I think the SF would work with any formula you would use the WCS with, but not the other way around, so that is a huge bonus for the SF in my book!

    hello! 👋🏼 this was such a thorough overview of these two brushes, so thank you!! i was thinking of trying the FO-2 for foundation, but am a little worried about damaging that expensive of a brush haha. i've read others have had good look with it as a liquid foundation brush for sensitive skin. may i ask if the FO-1 is a good option for bronzer? or is it too floppy/loose? i am looking for a diffused application of bronzer--rn I use the Z-1 or the Sonia G Soft Cheek for bronzer, but i find the Z-1 a little too floppy and doesn't have enough buffing power, and the Soft Cheek has too small of a brush head for the amount of area I'd like to cover. Hakutotsuho tends to be too harsh for my skin, so i thought this FO brush may be a better fit! Lastly, how does the softness compare between the Face Pro and the FO-1? The Face Pro was on my list of candidates, but I wasn't sure about the softness due to the mix of hairs. thanks for your time!

    Do you have any idea why I can’t find those on the original site of the brand? It is so strange 2 other sites sell it and the website does not mention a thing...

      Hi! On the chikuhodo website sometimes they only list things on the Japanese site. Maybe try looking for the Japanese version of the site and then using google translate. But I dont know why they dont list all of their brushes on the english version of the site 🤷‍♀️. Take good care 😘

    Between the sonia g face one and the chikuhudo silver fox foundation brush which between the two gives a more air brush effect when using powder foundation? Which between the two packs on coverage? Thank you

      @FluffyFude  Před 4 lety +1

      Hello, I think the silver fox foundation brush packs on more coverage but the Sonia G gives a more air brush effect. I slightly prefer the Sonia G Face 1 but mostly because it is a larger brush that covers more surface area. The Sonia G has longer bristles and is therefore going to give a more subtle application but that also makes it really good for buffing/finishing brush. Hope that helps some and take care!!

      I forgot to mention, maybe consider the Sonia G master face once it is released as a single. It is a bit more dense than the Face 1 and I think works better as a powder foundation brush.

    Silver Fox! Interesting. I have a few squirrel eye brushes from Chikuhodo and enjoy them except for knowing I need to be extra careful with them during use and not to clean them often.
    Maybe you can share recommendations with me for cream concealer. I rather like using a brush versus my fingers or sponge. Lately I have been using Sonia's Worker Three to pat and blend my concealer, and it works well under my eyes on the thin skin there. Then I go over it all with a fluffy brush to buff, which is lately the Sonia Detail Pro. All this being said, I feel like I am ruining my brushes with the cream product. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Enjoy your new brushes. They look beautiful...so different in style than other brushes from Chikuhodo. Thank you!!!

      Hi Denise, it is funny that you mention using the Worker 3 for concealer because I had been trying the same thing with the Worker 3 and Worker 2 last week at a friends recommendation. I do have a recommendation! Take a look at the Koyudo BP014, it is a very small foundation brush that I think works well for concealer. Best part is its made out of durable goat and is not a brush you have to worry about being gentle with, I think it retails for $30 on Beautylish and is a good everyday use brush. It is going to be bigger than the Sonia G workers but I find that using the sides / edges I can still get close to by bottom lash line. If you are open to synthetic brushes, I also like the Sephora Pro #67 Press full coverage precision brush. I hope that helps! Thank you again!
