I enjoy how healthy the relationship was between Otto and his wife. She said that they weren’t perfect, he agreed. He talked about her English literature, but even with his incredible pride in science, he didn’t belittle her study, even said that some of the things she does is more complex. They lift each other up with just a few sentences. I aspire for it

I love how they inserted this detail of Otto having studied science and Rosie literature. We see that Otto, even before the accident, has a 100% scientific mind, even too much so. But we’re more or less told that Rosie’s love of literature and poetry is what softened him and made him learn to truly love his job, and also to pursue his scientific goals for a higher and noble purpose, not just for the mere sake of it. When Rosie dies, only the cold and calculating scientist remains, pursuing his project like a machine would, with no warmth or love.
And this all parallels with Peter needing to open up with MJ, and at least give her all the elements to freely choose whether to take the inevitable risks or not; because she’s Spidey’s heart like Rosie is Otto’s, so Peter would’ve become a far lesser version of himself had he forsaken his love for her.

The problem though is that the writing and directing makes this Peter Parker lean into the dorkiness too much to the point where you don't really see any of the aspects of the character that make him cool. Even when he is in his Spiderman persona, he doesn't really say anything that badass or witty. The amazing Spiderman movies did the opposite problem, where they made Peter Parker TOO cool to the point where you don't buy him being a geek like in the comics.
The MCU version of spiderman definetely has its problems with character development, but to give that film credit, Tom Holland's performance and dialogue make audiences see both the geeky and badass aspects of the character. You totally see how much of an awkward nerd he is but you also see how cool he is when his Spiderman persona comes out.

What an amazing actor Alfred Molina is, to portray Otto Octavius in such a manner. He gave this character such class, charm, and brilliance. All great qualities in a character and we can see how Peter began to look up to Otto as a role model or mentor. It was the perfect build up to the events that unfolded at Otto’s demonstration, it’s just pure tragedy how he became Doc Ock.

Their interaction in no way home really brought me to tears. It just demonstrates how good Spider-man 2 was. Otto was genuinely happy and proud to see the older peter, who himself has never wanted to harm in any ways. It was this Otto, the one in this clip, the same Otto that said “Oh Rosie I love this boy”, in no way home that said: “ it’s so good to see you my boy, how are you?” Neither of them wanted to hurt each other in 2004, but fate didn’t treat them kindly :((( He lost his wife, his life’s work, a son and ultimately, his own life.
