Doc Ock's line about the "voices in his head" is so chilling. It confirms that the AI had corrupted him and he wasn't truly in control of his actions when he hurt people. This is also the first time he's woken up as himself since his wife was killed. You can see the pain and guilt surging through him as he remembers, but he suppresses it so he can express his gratitude and even offer to help. Alfred Molina knocked it out of the park with his performance here; it's as if the 20 years never went by at all.

I mean if you've seen the original Spiderman 2, Otto DID say the chip was there to make sure that HE is in control of the arms, instead of them controlling him. When he got electrocuted due to the sun incident, the chip was fried. His every decision was influenced by the arms. His redeeming act in the finale of Spiderman 2 was all Otto though, no chip and all.

He's lucky he didn't take out a city block in Spiderman 2.

    • @Cetra29

Except the original movie implied the exact opposite. The AI "talked over him" to cinvince him. He himself was clearly conscious and changed his mind based on them. He was literally brought here - probably from just before the final battle in Spider-Man 1. So the idea that he's willing to eat a cheap microwave burrito, really is surprising.
Maybe it's from the realization that in the MCU - he doesn't exist; he has no identity, no resources, his home and his company, and his wealth, don't exist. It's like when he was sneaking the donuts into his pockets, without wanting Tom and Marissa to see. He was ashamed then...but he's so desperate with hunger now, he's not ashamed anymore.

My only wish is that these guys could be THE versions of these characters in the MCU. Holland is already my personal favorite Spider-Man (and honestly, he always was), but literally every one of these villains is incredibly well-cast. Obviously DaFoe as Osborn and Molina as Ock are the pinnacle of superhero movie castings, but I LOVE Jamie Foxx’s Electro in this move (he’s just a former-nobody looking for power, it’s simple and it works), and even though they didn’t get the spotlight here, Thomas Haden Church and Rhys Ifans have so much potential from their original movies. Throw in Keaton as the Vulture, bring back Mysterio (he’s the master of illusions, he could absolutely still be alive), and add in Tom Hardy for good measure (hate all you want but his Eddie and Venom are great) and you’ve got my ideal cinematic Spidey rogues gallery.
Of course, it’ll never happen. Plus, I love seeing new interpretations of characters-it’s why I love MCU Spidey to begin with. But still, if I could rewrite the MCU with no restraints, this is what I’d do.

I think that’s why they did the multiverse thing. Kevin Feige knows those actors are the best in these roles, so he decided why not have Tom’s Spider-Man fight them.

This is why I love Spiderman. Just like Batman, he doesn't want to just stop his villains, he wants to save them.
Not because he has to or because he thinks they deserve it. But because he can. Like Aunt May said, he has a gift. Not his super strength or Peter tingle. She meant his brilliant mind.
