    Willem Dafoe's acting in this scene is absolutely on point in the way he shows Norman's persona constantly shifting between his and GG's. The subtle change in facial expressions, the change in the tone of voice, all showing a character stuck in a battle between two different personalities, one good but vulnerable, one downright insane and villainous. Starting at 2:48 is one of my favorite scenes in the movie because it shows just how much Norman cares about Peter. The goblin living in his mind no doubt wants to reach out and kill Peter right then and there but Norman makes a quick exit, hyper aware of what could very well happen if he sticks around. The internal power struggle is subtle but highly effective. And it’s one of if not the only time we see Norman’s heart and humanity overpower the goblin long enough to keep his friends and family safe.

      His father was *insulting her very bad* and basically called her a golddigger or wh*re!
      He was clearly a creep looking at her like that in front of his son (not only is he disrespecting Mary Jane also Harry as well).
      So MJ propably excepted more of a reaction (which is natural), because she felt embarrassed in front of Peter and his auntn.
      But she should have understand that Harry has an unhealthy relationship with his father, so expecting a strong reaction by him would be to much.

    • @paulgraves1392
      @paulgraves1392 Před 3 lety +123

      Norman's most offensive comment about MJ came after 4:06. Within the context of the scene, this is supposed to be where Norman and MJ meet for the first time, and within mere minutes Norman rudely walks out. He shutdowns Harry with insults about both his mother and MJ- effectively ruining the dinner. This along, with the rapidly escalating tension, leaves Harry aghast.
      MJ (having been within earshot of Norman's words) is both mortified and disgusted. She decides to leave, knowing that the situation cannot possibly get any more uncomfortable. The sarcasm that she directs at Harry is her way of taking out the anger she feels towards Norman.

      I agree that Mary Jane is terrible written and only there for being eye candy.
      But people should not blame her in this scene, she had every right to be mad at an arrogant creepy man who basically called her a wh**e in front of her best friend and his aunt.
      She felt asshamed and Harry should understand that.
      And Mary Jane should have understand that expecting a strong reaction by Harry would be too much because he obviously has an unhealthy relationship with his father (who is supposed to be his role model).

      If Sam Reimi could do over the third Spider Man, with more freedom, I feel like Sandman would have been more impactful because he wouldn't need to be compared to Venom but instead by the original main antagonist Kurt Connors, AKA The Lizard. Maybe he could even have his own movie, because he doesn't even necessarily have to be a second antagonist

    I absolutely love the moments when you can tell the goblin takes control. When norman turns to leave Peter's room then he hears the blood drop. The second he hears it you know the goblin is the one looking around. I like to think it was goblin who was about to take a bit of the sweet potato cause it just seems like something he would do, but you definitely know its him when Aunt May smacks his hand. When Harry confronts him for leaving I believe it switches between both of them. "Your mother was beautiful" was definitely norman but "you think a woman like that likes you for your personality?" And "word to the unwise..." were goblin.
