  • #thinklikeahorse #ItIsNeverTheHorsesFault I did not put link on purpose. I do not want people hating or attacking this woman. I want people to understand horses so they don't make the same mistakes and make horses pay for their lack of knowledge. This video is Not picking on this woman, it is for learning and education for others, so they do not make the same mistakes.
    This video is used under Fair Use for education, critique and evaluation purposes. I said in the video I do not know anything about this lady, and she may be very nice. In my opinion, and the results of this horse almost breaking his neck, her training methods are NOT good for the horse.
    I am not trying to train her, or get her to like me or accept my opinion. I am pointing our horse behavior and horse language that most will miss if not pointed out. Not asking for love or hate, everyone is free to disagree, and take or ignore my opinion. I am sharing my opinion for the purpose of HELPING HORSES.
    I said in the video I do not want people to to and find and hate on this woman or be mean in the comments. Make comments constructive and stay on topic. Any attacks, name calling or rudeness will be deleted. Thanks

    Taught a girl at my pony club a valuable lesson the other day. She didn’t believe me that horses would rather be out in the cold in pasture with other horses than locked in a stall and ‘nice and warm’. She said her horse loved the stall. We placed a bet on what would happen if she left the stall door open and the access gate from the pasture to the back of the stable. Guess where the horse slept overnight. With his herd. Wish more people understood what stalls are to horses

      Angeline Bennett I think it was that, and the fact that horses get dirty out in pasture. People are so lazy when it comes to grooming and cleaning their animals. My horse only has a cover on him when it’s snowing, but when then I let him decide. I’ll go out with his cover and say ‘want your cover?’ And if he ignores me I don’t put it on. I know he knows what it means and there’s never been treats involved so he doesn’t come to me thinking he’s getting a treat. They’ve got access to shelter too, so they end up using that and having choices instead of humans imposing everything on them. But everyone else at the barn coddle their horses with covers. I end up taking a bunch of them off because they are too lazy to come take them off on hot days. Can’t believe the way some people bubble wrap their animals. And to think a horse would rather be in a box, warm, and with humans, than cold out in the pasture with their herd.. shows how little these people know their animals.

    I grew up on Black Beauty and in 2015 in middle age life crisis I bought a horse because of its name! Lucky for me and very lucky for my horse, I started watching Rick's channel to learn about a horse's world. I instantly was mortified with the inightlessness and self absorption of such a move and so remember the video about Serenity. I vowed to never be a barn witch, to learn from the horse and talk less , watch very very closely and respond with timing and feel. Yes I would have a relationship with my horse but it is in his horse world, not in my world. Its made me a better person and understanding pressure, release, draw, prey brain has been invaluable in so many domains. Thank you Rick.

      I am a nationally published equestrian photographer, and when watching Tara’s videos, I get the “willies” and a bad gut feeling about everything with these two foals, especially seeing that she turned to a “mill breeder” who is an irresponsible breeder and watching how they pushed the foal, who had never been weaned, into being trailered. I myself have been on a stud farm for a shoot with one of these mill breeders, and I can go on and on about my experience there, which was highly unpleasant. The owner had countless feral youngsters in the muddy backyard, a property that wasn’t zoned for horses, and kept her horses in souped up tractor sheds. Additionally, the owner wouldn’t let me take pictures anywhere in those areas, ordered me to stick to the nice looking front yard areas or she would take legal action against me. I have also witnessed a public-funded equestrian center posting online how their new foal needs to learn from his mom, don’t pet or touch him, it teaches him bad behavior. The people working on this facility are primarily volunteers, and the facility has made big mistakes before. This struck me as strange because at top notch stud farms, the trainers actually want you to pet the foals in their presence to get used to human contact. Also, I have witnessed people like Tara with good intentions trying to train problematic horses, but not understanding how to work with them, the horses end up with major issues. In the end, such horses belong with experienced trainers who thoroughly know what they are doing with dangerous and feral horses, and if that is not the strength of a given owner or trainer, such a trainer needs to be engaged. In the end, just the fact she brought from a mill breeder is a red flag for me, and to be honest, these horses do not have the Baroque look of PREs. I totally agree about cult following, and wish that more owners would engage experienced trainers when working with problematic horses. End of rant ...

    Another beautiful horse in the shitter. I've watched this a couple times now. It reminded me of a 60 year old barn witch who had been around horses all her life and many years as a barn manager. She was going to help me halter my second horse Trooper.Trooper came to me because I was a sucker. He had an uncomfortable fear of ropes. She the barn witch was going to halter him in a 12 ×12 stall. He was nervous and stressed she finally realized the potential for great bodily harm. Had she had a rope or I handed her one he would have broke in half. In a large pen I was able to halter him . The key was I didn't stop until I haltered him. Each day he came around sooner until he saw the rope he would stand or walk off slow allowed me to catch him. He didn't like the running. I thought I had done everything to get him over his fear of ropes. Finally I I lead him and Lightfoot down to a pasture. He wanted to eat the fresh grass but he couldn't quite do it. We followed Lightfoot he was eating fine. Fine he ate a little I continued to let slack out a little every day. He lead fine it was when the hope was on the ground. Never did figure out was caused his fear . But after a year off from injury we are getting back at it.

    • @Got2Bespoke
      @Got2Bespoke Před 2 lety +2

      Yes! I am flabbergasted that there are only ever positive comments on every single video when there are obvious mistakes being made in every single video I’ve seen in the last few years, ones that a somewhat knowledgeable beginner would be able to point out. She also favorites almost every comment (at least the ones that remains) on every single video. I believe she’s deleting comments not only because there are only positive comments (when the horse world is notoriously opinionated, so this almost never happens even on the best of videos), or neutral comments on the rare occasion that there are any left up, and because we know for a fact that she’s looking at every single comment because all of the ones remaining are favorited by her. She’s not the worst 😬, but she’s not very skilled and because her comments section makes it seem like everyone thinks she some amazing horse person and a great source of information, people are going to end up misled and forming bad habits if they take her advice or take her as an example. I hate to think people looking for good information might end up on her channel and because they don’t see any of the construction criticism that is certainly posted and then deleted, they may end up following her and immediately creating bad habits because of the faulty source of information.
      I’m not a fan of Rick, because despite the fact that he says things like ‘I’m not hating on her because she a woman’, his information (which has some good points to it) is delivered in a very biased manner when it comes to the female sex. He says something to the effect of ‘maybe she’ll look at the video and realize that she doesn’t know everything and she can learn some more’ and then follows it up with ‘sometimes that’s hard for a woman to admit’ and there in lies the problem with Rick. A lot of the world has a problem admitting when they’re wrong and that they could stand to learn something, but instead of saying that, he has to throw in ‘women have a hard time admitting…’ and shows his cards with how he thinks about women. I’m sure he’s very nice to the women in his life, but he needs to take his own advice: maybe he doesn’t realize that he has the tendency to criticize women almost exclusively and that he has might want to be open to that idea and realize that he can learn to be better. Or just be honest with himself that he is biased to a degree and that he can still make videos pointing out all of the problems with the way people handle horses, even if they’re women lol, without singling out an entire sex for something that is prevalent in every sex regardless of where they're from. Yet the husband shouts at Bella and jerks her face around and then yells about Bella being “crazy.” I wish I could buy or adopt Bella from these people.
    All I see is Bella reacting to the owner’s fear and the owner’s erratic movements (her behavior would look so strange and threatening to Bella - as you stated Rick she is acting like a predator). I fear for that poor mare because they don’t appreciate how she is reacting *exactly* to their nervous and erratic body movements that signal “danger” and/or “predator” to a horse. You want to know what? If you watch all the videos posted on people having problem horses they can't handle, so they take them to a trainer to get help, almost all the trainers are men and 100% of the owners are WOMEN. No guys. ALWAYS WOMEN. And some of the problems they are flummoxed by, the male trainer pinpoints and corrects in minutes. I've watched videos where these chicks were at their wit's end, the trainer corrects the horse once or twice, no problem, the horse recognizes the guy is the boss and immediately becomes obedient. And the women are gobsmacked by that.
      The one thing I have picked up from Rick is I now go nuclear when I see anything pink around horses. I also can't stand these videos of busty young women in skin tight clothing smiling seductively at the camera while slithering all over their horse as if it was a giant sex toy. Wish the horse would bite them a good one or kick 'em into the next county.
      Rick's not the only one fed up with women treating horses like Yorkie-Poos. A while back I stumbled on a video of Clinton Anderson getting real honest about women and horses. And Clinton deals with and trains tons of chicks. Think Rick is tough? Clinton was downright brutal. And I wasn't aghast - I agreed with him. I didn't rescue my first dog until I read a couple of books on dog training. Then I learned more and more. Same with owning my horses. Owning a horse is so much more involved. But wait...She DID give release... at the absolute wrong moment. While she was trying to get the mare to come out of the stall, she pulled and released, and pulled and released while the horse resisted and just stood there. Poor horse is being taught that if she resists, the pressure will go away. Try light steady pressure until the horse moves one foot in the direction asked for, and release that very moment. The horse learns from the release of pressure. But if you release before the horse makes the correct move, or lean in the desired direction, not good! Eventually you'll get two feet moving, then three, then four. Knowledge of what motivates a horse, in conjuction with patience will pay great dividends. But only in small increments. There's only one reason why a horse rears: it feels that it cannot go in any other direction. The horse must be able to move it's feet. If it thinks it cannot go right, left, forward our backward, it will go up; there's no other option. Poor horse. Ignorant human.

It'd be funny if these people weren't so dangerous not only to horses and themselves, but to society as well because they drag this mentality everywhere.... The trainer that taught me horsemanship, whom is on par with Rick, bought a bunch of horses from another country because they where cheaper there. She was supposed to "fix them" so she could sell them. One horse came back because the horse didn't stand still when you where mounting him. The trainer HAD "fixed" the problem but the horse had learned when with the trainer to stand still because she actually knew what she was doing but the owner couldn't keep up; when you where mounting the horse you had to stay on the stirrup until the horse realized that runninig wouldn't get you off but standing still would give release, the owner couldn't do this because of health issue or old wound issue. So the horse ended up back with the trainer, and yes the trainer had told the owner how to do this the correct way, and when the trainer worked with the horse: there was NO PROBLEM, why? Because the problem didn't lay with the horse but with the owner. I don't remember if the owner got lessons to "fix" the problem or if the horse returned to the trainer and then was sold to someone who could actually train the horse and keep up.
    The trainer really cared WERE and with WHOM the horses ended up with so they could have good homes.

      There are some great people helping us see and learn these skills with horses… Rick here, Steve Young, Klaus Hempfling, and others.
      On human to human, two women have helped multitudes of parents and educators learn and practice congruent communication with children and each other: Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish.
