Ledger integration with the Daedalus wallet is a great step forward and this setup is the most secure for keeping your Cardano ADA safe. For people who don't want to download the Daedalus wallet Yoroi is still an option for a more lightweight solution -

Great Video Paul. Quick question: Do I have to undelegate from my regular Daedalus wallet to send to the ledger/Daedalus wallet?
Thanks Yannis, yes if the funds are in a normal daedalus wallet then you would need to send them to your ledger and redelegate from the ledger then. You will still be paid to your old wallet for 2 epochs after the move. You will probably lose 1 epoch rewards while waiting to start earning on the ledger but in the long term it will be more secure.
Can someone help me out with once you have register your ledger with the block chain and it up on your interface and active how do I use that to attach my other wallets in daedalus to it? Or is that a function that ledger has
hi. mate can u please help me i was using daedalus wallet with ledger i staked coin everything was fine till new update come on wallet and i could not open wallet it keep connecting to network so i uninstall and install wallet again try to pair my ledger again after confirming on ledger it keep coming error occurred. any suggestion bit worried if i lost my fund😔
Great video, thanks for your help with this stuff.
So I've been using Daedalus for a couple of years without Ledger so all my ADA is just on the desktop Daedalus. When I connect my Ledger for the first time and pair it is it then that the key gets transferred to the Ledger? So after that am I correct in saying I can no longer perform any transactions through the Daedalus desktop without the Ledger connected?
Thanks for checking it out.
No the Ledger will be treated as a different wallet to the one you already have in Daedalus. If you want to keep your ADA on the ledger you would need to transfer them from your old Daedalus wallet into the ledger wallet that shows up after you pair your ledger. Any questions just let me know
@@CardanoWithPaul great, cheers Paul. Thanks for the quick response.
Thanks for the info. It does clarify a lot that is not simply available on any one resource.
1. While I gather the processes are relatively similar can you make a specific step by step video for collecting ur ADA and then staking with the Trezor Model T?
2. If you stake coins with a pool and purchase more coins can you keep adding them to the pool as you buy?
Thanks again.
Thanks Rohit
1 - I dont have a trezor model T so I cant do that video yet but it shouldn't be very different
2 - Once you delegate your wallet anything else that is added to that wallet including rewards are auto staked and you can add at any time

Paul, When moving everything to the HW wallet can one delegate right away or do you have to wait for new epoch? I see the old pools that were associated with my older wallets and the only option is to re-delegate but there is no ADA in either as I have moved them to the HW wallet.
Yes you can delegate as soon as the funds are in your ledger. Any questions just ask.

hey Paul! great video thanks i do have some questions - i have the deadalus wallet with my ledger on my macbook i am a bit afraid what happens if my laptop brakes? how do i restore my ada from deadalus? do i need a recovery sheet? i only have it connected with the ledger, no extra wallet
because it says if i delete the wallet it gets away from the interface and i can only restore it with the recovery phrase but what recovery phrase?? just want to make sure i got them safe
If the coins are on your ledger wallet then that is all you need to restore the wallet on any version of Daedalus or Yoroi.
it will not find my trezor model t at all. what else can i do
I created a wallet while the network was synchronizing and now it does not appear in my wallets.. Does anyone have an idea on what happened?
can you confirm that you need to do this you need to:
1) Download Yoroi (or Adalite?) extension to create a wallet
2) In creation process select hardware option
3) Open Daedalus and then pair to access the same wallet but through Daedalus?
What are the incentivized Tesnet rewards tab on Daedalus? Do we not get those rewards on Ledger hard wallet or Daedalus wallet? Please help
They were for people who were on the testnet last year. It ended last july
Just got Daedalus and want to use your pool. Just one short question.. so I got my ADA wallet synced with my hardware wallet. How do I proceed if I open up Daedalus (ofc with my hardware wallet plugged in) on an other PC to manage my ADA wallet? Much love!
Have you paired your ledger with Daedalus? If so you should be able to use it like I show in the video. You will get a receive address under the receive tab to send your ada to. I am new to staking and I staked on yoroi pool from Daedalus. My wallet is around 34 ada and I delegated to Yoroi pool but only $2 was subtracted from my wallet. Does it mean that only $2 will earn rewards?? I'm a little confused since my wallet has a Yoroi Label now. Can someone explain this to me? Thanks :) Any answer would be much appreciated.
The 2 ADA is the deposit you pay when you start staking and you get it back when you stop. With Cardano staking it stakes the full wallet and your funds always stay in your wallet
@@CardanoWithPaul Thank you so much man! More power to your channel!
Not sure if this a dumb question, just bought the ledger nano X but haven't used it yet. I was wondering if the hardware wallet needed to always be plugged into the computer when delegating? or after it pairs to daedalus can I disconnect the ledger nano will I still be getting rewards??
Not dumb at all. congrats on getting a nano X. The hardware wallet only needs to be connected when you stake your ADA at first. Once it is staked you don't need to connect it again until you want to move your ADA or your rewards so you can keep it stored in a safe place.
When I am ready I will opt for you.

I am trying to connect my ledger to metamask and facing other issues too. I can’t get in touch with ledger support. Someone help
After I pair it to ledger the ADA are no longer stored on Daedallus wallet? Can I delete Daedallus wallet and my ADA will be safe on ledger?
Forgive me for these stupid questions but I just want to be sure.
I have basically done exactly what this video instructs with my Nano X with the exception of delegating.
I understand the private keys are inside the ledger but what if something happens to my desktop where my Daedalus is installed?
Do I lose all my ADA? Should I view Daedalus as another Ledger Live but exclusively for ADA? So, as long as the ledger is fine, my crypto is fine? If I lose ledger live or Daedalus on my desktop it doesn't matter.
The ADA I have purchased, I assume is under the seed phrases that came with my Nano X correct? So if my computer blows up. All I have to do is download Daedalus, plug my nano x and my info will populate from the blockchain?
I assume I would use the seed from for my ledger in Daedalus to restore If I need to restore? I ask this because when I set up my nano to Daedalus it didn't give me a phrase.
Again, I know these questions may seem stupid but I just want to make sure.
I appreciate the help.
Yep your ledger retains your ADA keys so all you ha e to do is plug it into any daedalus or yoroi and you can access your ADA. If something happened your ledger you would be able to restore all your accounts onto a new ledger with your ledger seed phrase
@@CardanoWithPaul thanks I plan on living like shit for a year and dca'ing 250 -500 dollars a month into ada out of the $2800 I will be investing a month into crypto.
Question, why are you heavily banking on ada? Do you have a video the explains why?
Thnx
So in order to stake in 2 different pools, I need to have some ADA on the Daedalus wallet and some delegated to the Ledger Nano wallet. Is that correct? Can I stake in 3 or more pools on Daedalus if I wanted to? I'm guessing if I have a second Ledger Nano that would work?
Thanks Paul, I did stake with your pool!
Thanks Jimmy I appreciate you delegating to my pool. Yes for now the only way to delegate to multiple pools is to have multiple wallets. You can create as many wallets as you want in daedalus and delegate them all to separate pools or have multiple ledgers and each to different pools. Just make sure you keep the recovery phrases all safe and secure
Hey Paul how would I restore ADA that I previously had store through my hardware wallet on deadalus. would it be through the pair option like this video showed or restore. I tried using the key deadalus gave me but took me to my original wallet. Thanks alot
Yes if it was on a hardware wallet you need to just pair that wallet again
Hi Paul, great help to the community, thank you for that. In one of your answers in the comments you said that Daedalus offers an extra layer of security. Would you mind elaborating on it? Why is it more secure than accessing funds via adalite or yoroi?
Yoroi and adalite are both good but daedalus is that bit more secure as it downloads the full blockchain to your laptop and you just interact with it. There is alot less chance of a man in the middle attack. A hardware wallet and daedalus is currently the most secure option but yoroi is a good backup too as a more lightweight option.
@@CardanoWithPaul That makes sense. Thank you, man. Keep up the good work.
Will do, thanks for checking out the channel
I have 4 wallets on Daedulus, so now with my Ledger i understand i would need to transfer my ADA from Daedulus to the ledger then re-delegate. Can I -redelegate back into the same 4 pools? do I have to start a whole new seed phrase with each again? Debating to just leave as be, or is it worth it to move it on the Ledger. Thanks for any info! Great channel.
No with ledger you will can only have one wallet. There is a way to create a second account on your ledger by setting up a 25th word (passphrase) which lets you create a second pin on your ledger so you can login with either pin then
Hey. I'm thinking about getting a ledger, but I don't really understand it! In this video you paird your ledger to daedalus. Did that creat a new wallet in daedalus or is the wallet on the ledger device? And where is the seed phrase for this wallet?
Thanks!
When you use a ledger your funds always stay connected to it and you use a wallet like daedalus or yoroi to connect and interact with your coins. The wallet that shows in daedalus is just showing what is on your ledger
Hi Paul,
New too crypto, new to Cardano, new to staking (staked on your pool yesterday or before that as a matter of fact). Could you clear something for me please?
As I understand, the ledger, is almost like a pen drive in which you can store your ADA. The difference between this and the software wallet is that it is easier for the one on the PC to be hacked. Now...if I make a wallet on the ledger and then stake in your pool, I can just disconnect the ledger from the PC, keep it offline, and come back 5 years if I wish too, and the ADA will keep staking "forever" on your pool until I wish for it to be so? Is this correct? Thank you and again, keep up the good work!
Thanks R. Yep thats correct, the keys to control your ADA stay on the hardware wallet so all transactions need to have physical access to it to make a transaction so adds an extra layer of security
@@CardanoWithPaul Thank you! :)
nice video man! what if I already use Daedalus and have it staked and then buy a ledger can I still pair them together?
@@CardanoWithPaul Ok great! many thanks for the info Paul :-)
can I pair existing wallet?
What is ledger goes bankrupt or lost and my funds are tied to it?
The ledger company has no control over your hardware wallet. If you lost your ledger you can restore it onto a new device with your seed phrase
How can I get my stake pool deposit back if I can't do a wallet restore? My recovery seeds are not working and I don't know where to find my stake pool private key to transfer it to another wallet. Any help is appreciated 😁
If you stake through Daedalus using a ledger nano X.
Where do you put your seed phrase if you were to recover that ledger wallet?
In Daedalus or in Ledger live?
Cheers
You can just connect your ledger to any yoroi or daedalus as the keys for the wallet always stay on the ledger so when you use your ledger daedalus or yoroi wont give you a new seed. The only one you have is the one for your ledger
I did this, but with my Trezor. Is it normal that even if my Trezor is disonnnected form my computer that I can still see my Trezor wallet on Daedalus?
Yes you can still see even when it is disconnected but you cant send any transaction until you connect your Trezor
@cardano with paul how long should it take to just get the daedalous wallet synced with the block chain. I want to link my hardware wallet but the deadalous wallet sync is taking soo long
It can take a good few hours depending on your internet connection. You could also use the yoroi plugin. I show it as well as Daedalus in this video - czcams.com/video/3ypcYjjJNns/video.html
@@CardanoWithPaul thanks bud i thought i had bugged wallet. Your content is perfect as i plan to stake my bag. Be looking for your pools. Cheers
@@CardanoWithPaul is 500 enough to stake?
One you connect to a pool, if you add more ADA to the wallet you connected. Do you have to do anything or will it automatically update the amount you're staking?
Once the wallet is delegated once anything new added is auto staked as when you delegate that stakes the full wallet

Hi Paul,I got myself a ledger Nano X, currently I am using the daedalus desktop wallet. Within daedalus I created two wallets, once I pair my ledger with daedalus does it transfer both wallets to my Ledger? Thx in advance
Pairing your Ledger with Daedalus just shows your Ledger wallet on the interface, it doesn't transfer anything. You would need to SEND from the two wallets you created on Daedalus to the Ledger wallet.
So once you have set up the ledger on Daedalus the ledger is just the security interface, nothing is shown on the ledger software only on Daedalus.
Is that correct?
Yes ledger live doesn't support Cardano just yet so you see your coins on daedalus
Hi Paul, how do I figure out if my funds are on my ledger or on my daedalus wallet?
In Daedalus your ledger should have a small icon beside it like a usb. When you click into that wallet if you see your ADA there then it is on your ledger. You can also confirm by logging into adalite.io/ using your ledger and see if your balance shows there
If Im already delegated in daedalus. Then move to ledger. Will it carry over my delegation? What about the ada supposed to come in for 2 epochs later. Would it go to my old wallet?
You would need to send your funds to your ledger and then delegate again from your ledger as it will be a new wallet. Your 2 epochs that you are due in rewards will still be paid to your old wallet and once you have them all you can send them to the ledger as well.
Would it be accurate to say:
1. If you’re using a ledger wallet to store/access your ada on Daedalus (or Yoroi), the only relevant seed phrase is the one for your ledger? In other words, any Daedalus-generated or Yoroi-generated seed phrase is irrelevant with regards to your ledger wallet?
2. If you’re using a ledger wallet, Daedalus/Yoroi will just serve as different ways to interface with the same ledger account. So in theory you could delete your wallet from either platform and recover it with your ledger like nothing happened?
Thanks.
Yep all correct Will, the ledger seed is the important one and Daedalus / Yoroi is just your way of viewing your coins
@@CardanoWithPaul same with ada lite? ^^
@@CardanoWithPaul so if you have your seed with the ledger does that mean you wouldn't even need your seed to daedalus? and is this true with other crypto? it's actually a question I have had for a while, bought some NEO, put it in a neon wallet and was using my ledger nano S. well, the laptop died and I don't even remember ever seeing a seed phrase when setting up neon wallet. can I still restore my neon wallet because I was using it with my ledger?
is my ledger nano x recovery phrase used if i want to restore my daedalus on another account? i havent been given a recovery phrase from daedalus
No your nano recovery phrase is only used on your nano if you need to restore it or you need to restore your nano on a new nano device.
When it comes to connecting your ledger to Daedalus your private keys always stay on the ledger and you can plug pair it to as many Daedalus accounts as you want. Daedalus only gives recovery phrases for wallets created directly on it
Alright cool so if i decide to get a new computer i just download daedalus again and pair my nano ?and itll show all my ada ive previously bought? Cheers for the reply mate
Yep once the keys are on your ledger thats all you need to pair / restore that wallet on a new Daedalus. If something ever happened to your ledger thats when you need your ledger recovery phrase but that should only be ever entered on your ledger and not shared with anyone
No worries.Thanks mate!
Is it possible to somehow shift ADA within the same daedalus simply to another wallet? Or do we need to send and receive as usual? Thanks!
Needs to be send and receive so its recorded on the blockchain
@@CardanoWithPaul thanks mate.
Hi Paul. I’m currently staking on Binance but I really should move that from there onto my ledger. What’s the best steps? Just follow this video?
Hey John, ya you can use daedalus or the yoroi browser plugin. Once you pair your ledger to either wallet you can get your receiving address under the receive tab and withdraw your ADA to that address. If it's a decent amount I generally do a small test withdrawal first of a few ADA and then the full amount once you see it hut and your happy. Any problems drop me a message here or in the telegram group
Thanks mate. I’ve just realised that you can’t actually withdraw any Ada directly from your Nano X from ledger live because it seems there is no Daedalus iOS app. So I’d have to use my laptop to do this? Not that I’m selling my ada but I was going to sell my rewards from staking and it would have been handy to do this straight from ledger live iOS. 👍
Hi Paul!!I am sure this has been asked before but I cannot for the life of me find the answer.
I got my nano s today and have it set up with my Cardano. I am wondering if the nano breaks is there a software wallet I can use to manage my wallet using my 24 word seed?
I set up a test wallet on the nano, sent 1 ada, verified it was there and then tried to import the wallet into adalite and daedalus using the 24 word seed but the wallets show as being empty.
Does this mean I need to buy a new hardware wallet to retrieve my ada if this one breaks?
I know ordinarily the 24 word seed should be enough for retrieval to a software wallet but it seems ada does not follow bip39 the same way as the other coins and I noticed that it isnt listed in Ian Colemans tool.
Any help you can give would be great.
Thank you 😊
Yes if you break it you can restore it onto a new BIP39/BIP44 hardware wallet. I haven't tried to restore my ledger onto a software wallet so not sure how well it works for ADA. I know ledger have a way to export your private keys too but again I haven't tried it - support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005297709-Export-your-accounts
I will put it on my list of things to look into. My list seem to be getting longer every day instead of shorter 😀
Thanks for your quick reply.
I wasn't even sure if you could regenerate an ada wallet using a private key. All of the apps seem to only allow access using the mnemonic.
My fear is that ledger go bust and my nano breaks. If I cant get another one, how do I access my coins. Highly unlikely I know, but I like to have these things covered lol.
Love your videos!! Keep up the good work 👏 👍
If ledger goes bust you can use another hardware wallet like trezor. Again I haven't tested it for ADA but maybe its something I should test at some point
Hi Paul, I have already delegated into a pool using the wallet in Daedalus.
Recently, i just bought a ledger nano. Do I have to transfer all my ADA over and re-delegate or no?
Hey Sam, thanks for being in the pool. Yes you will need to set up your ledger and then send the funds to the new wallet on your ledger. Once they are there you will need to delegate again. You will still get rewards into your old wallet for 3 epochs while you wait to start to earn in the new one so leave 2 ADA in the old wallet to claim the last rewards once you earn them
Do we have to leave the program runnin when staking cardano?
No once you stake you can close it
As your ADA is technically "offline" while stored in the case in a drawer somewhere, do I presume your funds/rewards are just updated every time you plug it in and re-connect to Daedalus?
No you will still see the updates every time you open daedalus as when you pair your ledger with daedalus you link them but you won't be able to move any of the funds or change stake pools without plugging in the ledger.

Hi Paul - does this mean I would have to pay the transaction fees too to transfer between the soft and hard wallets?
Hi Paul

Now, when I connected to Adalite via ledger, it's showing my Daedalus balance. I am super confused now. Will I be able to stake this (Daedalus balance) without transferring it to Adalite?
The keys for the wallet are on your ledger so you are just using Daedalus or Adalite to access the coins. The same balance will show in daedalaus, yoroi or adalite

Ledger is treated as a separate wallet so you will need to send the funds out of your old wallet and into the ledger wallet that shows up in Daedalus. You will then need to stake again

You will need to send your ADA to your new Ledger wallet and delegate again. Your old wallet will continue to receive payouts from your old pool for 2-3 more epochs so leave 2 or 3 ADA in it so when the rewards stop coming you can claim them and send the balance to your ledger wallet then
@@CardanoWithPaul Thank you
@@CardanoWithPaul Would it be better to create the ada ledger wallet with a little bit of ada first, stake it, and then once rewards start, move the rest of your ada over so you don't lose any opportunities for rewards?
What happen if i delete the wallet and want to restore it back?
If you delete the ledger wallet from Dedalus you just need to pair it again. If you delete a wallet that was made on daedalus and not a hardware wallet you will need the recovery phrase to recreate the wallet on daedalus again
Can you delegate from your Ledger Nano S if disconected?
No you need to have it connected to confirm the transaction
@@CardanoWithPaul what if after delegating in the first place, I disconnect Ledger Nano? What im trying to say is that if it is always necessary to keep it connected. Thanks
@@Carlos-td6bz No once you have delegated you can disconnect and only need to reconnect when you want to make a transaction
@@CardanoWithPaul thanks Paul! By the way, I delegated around 300ADA to your pool. Your videos are amazing! Keep it going !!!!
@@Carlos-td6bz Thanks for joining
Can we have ledger nano s and x wallet and can have one key for both
Yes you can have the same wallet on both devices if you want to keep one as a backup
@@CardanoWithPaul well it doesn't work and it's not only me several people God the same issue
You should be able to restore the same seed phrase on each individual hardware wallet. I have done it in the past. What issue are you having?
@@CardanoWithPaul well I can connect to my wallet with S but X doesn't let me to connect , both have same seeds but maybe need to delete and pair it again
Hi Paul, i stake with you but i dont know how to set up a reward wallet. are you able to do a video on that please? im useing the daedalus wallet
or am i miss understanding how rewards are given?
do we need a a 15 word wallet ket from you paul? comp[lete misunderstanding how to recieve staking rewards. any help is much appreciated please
Rewards are auto added to your daedalus wallet for you so you don't have to set up a separate wallet for them
@@CardanoWithPaul Brilliant, thankyou mate. i was getting very confused :-D
Is there a point in me staking 700
Ada?
Over a year 700 will earn you about 35 ADA so if your going to hold them anyway then worth it I think
can u make a video on catalyst
vote
I will try and get something out on that topic this week
How you buy ADA with fiat
You can use Binance or Kraken
I live in a state in USA that Binance & kraken exchanges have not been issued a bitLicense . Too much regulation in my state . It has become very frustrating IN TIMES LIKE THESE 🤷🏻♂️.
Hi Paul,
I am pretty new so apologies if my question is a bit rookish.
I have bought few ADA on Binance account, and want to transfer into my freshly bought Ledger nano X. How to do that? In your vid you already had ADA in your nano s. Please help, thanks in advance!
If you go to the receive tab on daedalus you will get an address that you can send your ADA to. Thats the address you use to withdraw to in Binance. You can do a small test amount first just to be sure its all right
Thanks a ton Paul !
hi can i ask what happens if i delete my daedalus wallet that is connected to my ledger? will i be able to recover my account?
Ya you can just add it again as the keys always stay on the ledger
@@CardanoWithPaul oh really? Because it did warn me that i require my 15 phrase when i need to restore my wallet again if i delete my wallet with ledger
@@kaiziefoo5480 If you delete a normal wallet you need your recovery seed but if it is a ledger hardware wallet then the keys stay on the hardware device
@@kaiziefoo5480 When you added the ledger to daedalus it shouldn't have given you a seed?
@@CardanoWithPaul oh i didnt get it tho..
"a few minutes"
i guess your internet is much faster than mine or the blockchain got a lot bigger, because mine sure takes more than a couple minutes
Mine won’t pair
Do you have the latest Cardano app on your ledger?
Unrelated but need to vent to other Ada lovers. Some how managed to not land 7000 Ada I sent from one Daedalus wallet to another, killing me
Sorry to hear that man, Did you check the addresses and the transaction ID to see if it completed? Send me an email if there is any questions I can help on - paul@cardanowithpaul.com
So if my ADA are on Yoroi and I want them on Daedalus I need only to set up the Ledger on Daedalus and synchronize?
If they are on your ledger and you access them through Yoroi then you can pair the same ledger and see all the info there too.
If you use Ledger then the keys to your funds always stay on the device and you use wallets like Yoroi or Daedalus to view the wallet
@@CardanoWithPaul ok great
