    Here's the thing w/ Chibsons especially more recently. They're not bad, consider the cost for what it is, it's not bad as long as you're not expecting a 200-300 guitar to have the QC and sound of a 2000-4000 actual LP Standard or Custom. And just don't nitpick the details. Think of it as a different guitar guitar that's in the 200-300 range, if you do that then they're great. The oldest one I still have is 8 years old and I remember so many commenters on YT saying they won't last a year, they're only good for fire wood etc. That 8 year old Chibson of mine gets played a lot, has traveled w/ me tens of thousands of miles and it's still a great guitar. Yes, I did mod it as soon as I got it. I put in a roller bridge from Guitar fetish, I kep the original tail piece, just cause nothing wrong with it, I put a Tusq nut on it, a set of locking tuners cause I had some and originally a set of Seymours, now it has EMG's. Still looks, feel and sounds amazing. Total cost I put into it, about 450.00 total. I have a real LP, it's been in its case for over a year, i just haven't gotten around to taking it out and playing it cause the Chibson and my Harley Benton SC-550 plus EMG's are great, why put wear, tear on my real one right now?

      @@TheMixWithABD I find it funny when people start picking these guitars apart. They are $200-250 guitars. Even after the mods and setup etc, they are a great deal. But its funny that people expect a Chibson to play out of the box like a $3k guitar. Its $2700+ less. Think about the amp you could buy, the tubes, or pickups for the Chib and all the other things you can do with that money. I have a nice Chib, ive owned 3 and they keep getting better. I give them to friends as gifts. Before i gave these guitars to my friends (who are guitar players of decades) and they thought they were real. They have gotten that close where after you mod one people can def fall for it being real. Thats what i dont like about them in that aspect, someone taking advantage of anotehr person. But for personal use or helping a friend out with a guitar that they have always dreamed of but never would have the $ for. THe one i have been putting together is awesome guitar. Was $234 shipped to me from a seller in the US. Took 6 days to get the guitar. Ebay search this stuff. Dont have to wait 45-60 days or deal with Customs. But for $400-450 total these can turn into one hell of a guitar and in the process some of yall might learn something about repairing or doing work on guitars in general. Thats where i see these as a plus, after i did the frets and modded it, it truly was a "Custom" guitar that didnt cost me an arm and a leg. I own real Gibson guitars (expensive ones at that) and im telling ya if you get a good one of these and put the time and effort into the guitar, its well worth it and its nice to not have to bring out guitars that are well over $3k on tour with me.

    I finally gave in and purchased the Jimmy Page Signature Tobacco Burst Gibson Les Paul with the 50's style green tuners, a real bone nut, a chrome covered coil neck humbucker pickup and an open coil "mini" bridge humbucker pickup. I was floored when it showed up in only 5 days and right outta the box the finish just blew me away. I used to own a real Gibson Tobacco Burst Les Paul (which I loved), but the finish on this guitar is simply flawless and it's much deeper than my real Gibson Tobacco Burst Les Paul was. The neck feels amazing and honestly, the fretwork is the most perfect fretwork that I have ever encountered. It is that awesome. That's real talk.💯 The intonation is dead on the money all the way to the top and all the way back down to the sweet AF bone nut that is as much deserving of mention as the 50's style green tuning pegs. Between both of them, I can play song after song, bend the living $#i+ outta these (OEM/outta the box) strings and this baby stays in tune. Hell, I even banged the headstock into the damn wall really good two or three times already (I play 'em, I don't really polish them, so no worries) and it didn't have any effect on the tuning stability and I have never had that happen before and toss in the fact that I only paid $168 total for this awesome axe and it would be a complete dick move for me to tell anyone of you guys that this guitar isn't worth the money. Hell, Im'na buy an Explorer this week and next week 🤔... 😎 Flying V baby! And the crazy part is... I can still afford to go to Disney Land afterwards. 🧚🎆🏰🚝🛸🪐💫🏔️

    I have four: a Gold Top Standard, a "Black Beauty" Custom; a Cherry Sunburst Standard; and an "Alex Lifeson Signature" semi-hollow. Spent a lot of time on the frets and adjusting the truss rod on a some of them. The Gold Top is the only one with decent fret work out of the box. None of them with nibs, of course. The most expensive was the semi-hollow at $280. The cheapest was the "Black Beauty" Custom for $210, all with shipping included. Speaking of "Customs" - only one went through US Customs - in NY, of all places. One actually came from a seller in LA, California. I love all of them and they are for my personal use and collection. For the record, I have several Squiers and no "real" Fenders.

    The steeper angle on the Gibson headstock causes more string drag than the Chibson will encounter with it's shallower headstock angle making tuning much more stable. After a good string bend on the Gibson it will be slightly out of tune unless the nut string grooves are expertly cut and lubed.

    I've had a few of these and here's my take. All hardware, electronics & nut need to be replaced. Tuners & knobs need to be drilled for bigger holes as well. Neck needs a good setup, & fret level, and always a few frets need replacing, or to be glued, etc. By the time you pay for all that work to be done, this $250 guitar now costs $500+, and you could've bought a sweet, used Epiphone. I think we all get mind f'd by seeing the Gibson logo, and think these are better than they really are.

    As a woodworker of 50+ years, a 3 piece glued up body will be straighter over time because of the counter action of the 3 different pieces cupping in opposite directions,
    A one piece body will be the worst as it will cup and be concave or convex depending how you look at it. 1+ for 3 piece body as long as they alternate the growth rings.

    A common refrain from Chibsonistas is basically "if you buy a $350 guitar, and add $300 in new hardware, and do work that would otherwise cost you at least $200 from a guitar shop, you'll have a reasonably decent $500 guitar." Of course, if you sell it to someone as a fake, and they sell it to someone else as a Gibson, you could be facing jail time for conspiracy to commit grand theft fraud (because you were aware it's counterfeit).
    Setting all that aside, if you want a really good LP-like guitar because you are actually a musician, there are plenty of LEGAL options that won't require hundreds of bucks in parts: Tokai, Austin, Oscar Schmidt, Burny, Epiphone, Orville.... My current favorite is a Washburn WI-66V: fully bound, quilt top, mahogany body and neck, stock Rotomatics, and a floating trem (!!); these generally sell in the $400 range.

I love this thing and for the price i am shocked. Im not gonna argue here with ya about it. Just saying test one of the new ones out, its worth the $230 gamble if you want to look at it that way. "Just buy a Gibson"... We are looking at a $2700 price difference. Its not a simple purchase haha. I own the real deals and i can tell ya these are so close it is indeed scary. But I cant say they are consistent and ive seen bad ones. But personally i have had good luck. I know how to work on guitars and these were very very easy to get setup. But would i buy a $3500 Gibson again ? No. The QC sucks at Gibson now a days and the Gibson's i own are "real" Gibsons in my book because their new over priced crap is just that... crap. Anywhoo thats my 2 cents and i think for the $230, its well worth the price of admission. Ive seen some crazy bad newer Gibsons that have the same problems as past people have had with Chibsons, if not worse. There are videos on youtube and more than enoug hmessage forums out there. But if your gonna base not liking these guitars off one you bought 10 years ago, theres no comparison. They have caught up with the QC from my experience purchasing these from a reputable seller on ebay. They also come with a 30 day money back or replacement. So if ya get a bad one, just send it back for $0 and have them send you another one. Or if you really arnt happy get your $ back and it cost you $0. I received mine for a US seller on ebay in 6 days. What is there to lose ? Nothing. If ya dont like, send it back and get your money back or ask for another. But we are talking about $230. Not $3000. Most of us can afford the price of admission for a real Gibson. For some people a nicely setup one of these is perfect and close enough for them. You can hear the innotation is way off, the chibsons get out of tune fast, the tone lacks a lot of sound, if you put a bit more gain its squealing like crazy that your ears bleed out, not to mention that in about 1-2 years almost everything from the Tone switch to knobs will wobble and mostly fall off, the frets will wear out in a year, a slight temperature change will warp the neck... Chibsons are very very bad. The only good thing about Chibson is you can pose with it and show off as if you have an expensive Ginsons LP.

      How about just buy a guitar that isn't a piece of shit that's made by organized criminals? I can't imagine buying a guitar knowing I'm going to have to do a bunch of work on it. Just save your money and buy an Epiphone 1959. At least those are WORTH upgrading. Come on.

    I think you tried hard to make it sound cheap. Most of us are not playing on stage, so those of us playing in our den or basement I think they are great and I didn't have to mortgage the house.

    For its price, China makes attractive instruments, while the price of the original is completely inadequate for the average buyer. You can improve your Chinese guitar a little and be fine. If something happens to it, you will not worry too much, this is how a working tool should be

    Every guitar is going to need to be set up whether it's a $1,500 or a $300 guitar. And pickups are not that expensive. So, is it worth it? Yes.

      Gibson pickups can be over $200 a pup. Gross. I have another chibson video I just finished up. Exciting stuff. Debating when to post it…

      I'll never understand the delusion that people think a $300 guitar will ever sound like a $1500 guitar. Cognitive dissonance is powerful I understand but a well setup $300 guitar is still a $300 guitar. Save the money and give it to a reputable company that PAYS their workers and get a product that, if something goes wrong, you actually have company support.

      @w1zard0f0h Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@autodidacticprofessor869That is absolutely not true at all. Do you think that a 1,500.00 guitar is made of some magic wood or something? It all comes down to a good setup and good electronics. If you put good electronics in an inexpensive guitar it will sound exactly like an expensive one. I think the delusion may be coming from you. This is what's called the placebo effect. You think with that price tag it must sound good. So your mind makes up that it sounds better but in reality it sounds exactly the same as a cheap guitar. I have been playing for over 50 years.

      Yep..all modders know this simple fact.You can take any one of these (mainly for the looks lets face it), install the best stainless steel fretwire that exists(jescar),new nut,new high quality tuners, new pickups and electronics....now you have an excellent guitar that has nothing to covet from a "real" one...on the contrary you have better playability due to the SS frets plus the sound with the quality third party sets ll be as good as anything.
      The extra advantage is that if that guitar gets a hit or a blemish or a crack you dont even cry about it cause you are not losing much and you can always put the more expensive quality parts to a new clone....
      The best of all is that a guitar like that has its own anti theft mechanism built in..its called..."sand off the logo and no one ll care to steal it" device....

    I'm gonna be that guy who comes on here and says you shouldn't buy these and glorify buying them. You're not helping anybody but organized criminals and frauds in China. I get it. You can't afford a real Gibson. These aren't even as good as Epiphones, especially the newer ones. I get that you buy these things for CZcams content and engagement (congrats, you got mine) but you're not doing the guitar community or industry any good by buying these things.

    That is awful tone. Why would you buy a low budget guitar and “upgrade” it with extremely low budget pickups? Sorry but GFS is trash. Don’t get me wrong, the guitar is beautiful but it’s the worst tone if heard in a while.

    • @TheMixWithABD
      @TheMixWithABD  Před 6 měsíci

      That’s fair. It was the first time I was trying gfs and to be fair they have some okay stuff, but these in the video are not great at all. I didn’t want to spend much money on this guitar. I’ve since found that tonerider are pretty great low cost pickups. And planet tone makes some good stuff too. Since this Chibson I’ve purchased a bunch more
