Looks and Sounds fantastic brother. After receiving a few bad new Gibsons. (The most recent a New SG standard) Then comparing it to my 2023 Angus Chibson SG, I have found that I have been duped for a long time. The quality control on the Gibson was non existent. You are 100% correct. Gibson is not losing a dime. I posted a Video unboxing the Gibson & comparing it to the Chibson. Times they are a changing. New sub here... Thanks for sharing!

The guitar has veneer on the top and back. The binding hides any traces, and it's pretty much why they bind both sides. Also that fretboard is clearly rosewood. Ebony is usually black or almost black

I really don't understand why? I just purchased a Les Paul Bourbon Burst Standard for my youngest son, because he's earned it by showing talent and an honest desire to play. He started on a budget Peavy acoustic that his older brother got one year for Christmas and he didn't have time or inclination to get into it at the time, so it turned into a handmedown. The Les Paul is simply amazing to hear and to look at with obvious craftsmanship and quality. As any caring parent can attest to, there is something magical in making your child SMILE 😃, honestly smile! And I thank God above for such a Blessing. When he opened up that case and laid eyes on it, magical. Thanks to everyone at Gibson for all they do in their work, it is greatly appreciated 🙏. My long story/short, buy the original, no matter how long you have to scrimp and save. It is worth the wait.

I don't mean to burst a bubble, just going to explain. At one point I decided to order a few of them awhile back. When arrived, I took a good look and thought wow these are amazing for the price. One piece mahogany, so on. Then I started to do some further inspections and realized they were not one piece mahogany but 3 pieces. They literally took a veneer and glued it on the back to hide the amount of pieces used to build the body. There were also some other things but I won't get into detail. If you actually got a 1 piece body you sir, got lucky on that one!

I own 2 Chibsons; a Custom and a Standard, and I was going along with Steve until he claimed- with a straight face, JK, you could tell even he didn't believe what he was saying- that these things rival Epiphones in quality. 😂🤣😂🤣
I own an Epiphone 1959 and a Standard. They are light years better quality than my knock-offs. The 59 has Gibson pickups, CTS pots, and Switchcraft switching and jack. The Standard has Epi Burstbuckers, a beautiful finish and great playability.
I like my black Chibson Custom, and it had good intonation and action when it arrived. I also put on new strings, which made a big difference. The finish is surprisingly good, and it sounds pretty good, but let's not get carried away. They're $250 guitars and you can tell.

Eh, I've played those Inspired by Gibson 59's. You're way over selling them. The husk of the guitar in general isn't in any way superior to the typical shitty Chibson. Hardware and Electronics, sure. The rest? Nope. I'd never buy an Epiphone IBG when Gibson Tributes are selling for $8-900.

Follow Up: Mine arrived. Guitar is great! Only issue is a big cosmetic problem area above the switch tip (Black splotchy area near the binding). Seller says it’s the grain but it appears they didn’t wipe the stain from the area prior to spraying the clear.
Apart for the cosmetic problem, the guitar has almost perfect fit and action.

Better get the solid color, the LP standard jimmy page I got from Sunny Guitar Store is a 5 piece body and has a shim on the neck tenon. It gets the job done anyway, not bad for a $CAD 265 guitar. Neck is straight, frets are medium size and no buzz, pick ups are microphonic(given), pots are not bad, tuners are better than most Epiphone, top is maple with veneer, back is 5 piece with veneer. I'll give it 7.5/10 right out of the box.

I received the blue burst chibson finally from same seller. Initial impressions? It’s a pretty good guitar, holds tune. It’s intonation is spot on right out of the box. Needed a truss adjustment and most everything is surprisingly nice on it. The truss rod cover is hokey so that got swapped for a real one. The nut needs some attention. I’ll just file it for now, so it isn’t sharp and square and it’s a little high but not bad. So out of the box, after tuning it and three minutes for a truss rod adjustment it plays well! Surprisingly so, worth it? Yeah, if you don’t mind the risk of not getting it, or getting one that needs more work. They seem pretty legit though. One is still lost in the mail though, hopefully that one shows up but I did get refunded on that one so I’m still happy. Oh and the tuners are ok, the plating isn’t great on them but they work fine.

I have two Chibsons, a '59 re-issue LP Standard ("custom shop" lol) and an ES-345. After I set them up to my taste and changed the horrible strings that came with them, I would put them at a level of Epiphone quality at half the price. Not so surprising that they had Epiphone parts on them since Epiphone makes guitars in China (not so big secret, the Chinese Epiphone factory makes Gibsons that are then shipped to the USA for final inspection). I've let very experienced guitar players play them (without telling them they're Chibsons) and one guy actually said about the "custom shop" LP, "So that's what a $4000 guitar looks like".

It wasn't even close to the quality of the worst made Epiphone, why it was labeled as a "50s" I have no clue, the neck was 42mm wide at the nut, the neck profile was a standard 60s thin, the fret board looked like it was attacked by a high speed grinder, going from a 12" radius to a 6" radius at the upper register of the frets to the point where four frets were sticking out of the fret board, the truss rod was off center of the neck, two of the bridge posts were oblong and filled with wood chips to keep them from moving. I have a couple and from more reputable makers such as Kevin Shi. The body is generally multiple pieces, the neck has a scarf joint or something else down at the heel, the nut, pickguard and back covers are cheap plastic. Bridge and tailpiece are cheap pot metal, you'll actually notice the strings ripping into the tailpiece after some time, the tuners are passable and so are the pickups, although the neck pickups is very sketchy on both of mine. The wiring is where it really goes south, tiny cheap pots, a horrible switch and very poor wire and components.
All that being said, they make a great project and if you're not a "player" and more of a hobbyist or beginner, you may not even notice a lot of those things and if you do, most of them are easily fixable, although if you're going to go out and buy Seymour Duncan pickups and Gotoh tuners etc, I'd probably just buy a good quality Epiphone or something to begin with.

Regarding string height- I can’t play guitars with strings low. Seems to be what everyone wants, but from a playability and even physics standpoint, it’s not really ideal. The strings want to oscillate. Even with the oft-requested “low as possible without buzz”- you’re likely compromising tone and not even know it. I do tech work, and have had players wanting pickups replaced- in a guitar with nice ones (Epi Probuckers-best they’ve ever done). Turns out all they need is a setup to allow the guitar itself to sound better
Guaranteed your favorite famous player does not have string action to the deck either, in most cases. Especially in a live environment, where energy causes you to typically play harder

    • @guitarnutsanonymous7199
      @guitarnutsanonymous7199  Před rokem +1

I guess the crazy low action works for the "shredder" type of players, who generally seem more concerned with speed and acrobatics than tone. Not unlike the Floyd Rose vibrato, which is also known to be a "tone-suck"... but those guys love them.

If the original is $2,000 and the fake is $200, but it looks as good as the original, by all means, I choose the fake. It may sound worse by 5-10%, but it doesn't sound worse by 10 times, so the price of the original does not justify itself at all. As a last resort, I will replace the sensors. The value of the guitar is mainly in the wood and you got it

@@guitarnutsanonymous7199 The Chinese fake even has some advantages over the original. For example, a good lacquer: even after 10 years, the Chinese lacquer will be as shiny as on a new guitar, while Gibson uses a completely crappy finish, which usually becomes covered with cracks and muddy spots after 2-3 years. I'm surprised a $2,000 guitar can have such a terrible finish, it ruins the whole look, but the company's management doesn't give a damn about it. Also Chinese Gibson knockoffs usually have a stronger head mount, it doesn't fly off when dropped, and they provide a more practical strap mount: the guitar won't fall on your foot the first time you use it. All this will please you no less than the price
