I love this song. But to correct you, they were never trying to get out of the Military. They have always said that they would serve their country when called to duty. Their government gave them a kind of exemption to enlist by the age of 30. So they waited till 2022 to start. Jin will be out in June of 2024. They will all be back together in 2025. And heaven help us when they all get back together. We won't be able to breath. Lol

I think you perfectly described the circumstances BTS (and the world) were in prior to the release of Dynamite. BTS had their sold out Map of Soul 7 tour cancelled, which I think they had planned to be their big finale before enlistment. I am sure they were so devastated by that, and I am thankful that they gifted us with Dynamite instead of doing a cheesy cover of "Imagine," lol. I've been Army for a long time, and while Dynamite is not my favorite BTs song, I am thankful for it. As I am thankful for all the content they made for us at such a time of uncertainty. They thought about how all of us were feeling, and just tried to make enjoyable content and stay connected to us. In that context, Dynamite is a little brilliant. We all needed some smiles, while looking at the cutest boys ever.😁
I'm a bit ambivalent about the song. It was so untypical for BTS to release a song with less content back then. BUT it was in the middle of COVID times and it was BTS ARMY's attempt to cheer up and be happy despite the uncertain and difficult times. And I think they did that with this song (and the following "Butter" and "Life goes on"). There is another official MV (BTS Dynamite B-Site) with more stuff to smile about and easter eggs for ARMY.
You can compare it to the Army version of "Boy With Luv".

One of my favorite videos!! You can tell they had a blast making this one 💜 My first introduction to BTS. I was having a hard day with physical therapy. The therapist said let's take a break. I turned on the TV and I heard this song playing for a Samsung Glaxy commercial. My tears stopped and I said who are they?? We looked them up immediately and it clicked. They are the boost I needed while learning how to walk again. I immediately began my journey and instantly became ARMY!!

I'm a Dynamite Army so I had no real reference point. I had only heard DNA before and didn't pay that much attention as I'm in my 40s and just thought boy bands are for kids. For me, Dynamite was a song I used to lift my spirits and to believe life would one day be happy again when my dad was dying. BTS finds you when you need them the most. This song will always have an incredibly special place in my heart. 💜

This was also the first video I saw of theirs and it’s SUCH a different experience after diving in with the context of who they are and their other music. It’s totally worth a second react.
Even though it was weird to not have lyrics written by the guys at first, them choosing to record it worked. It lifted our spirits. They said when listening to the demo lifted their spirits, so it made them want to record it for us hoping it would do the same. At least for me, it cheered me up because in 2020, every day was doomsday. No good news and no feeling of hope. Not only how pandemic affected almost every part of our lives (my job, canceled tour, stuck at home, couldn’t see friends/family, etc.) but George Floyd and all the racism towards black people during the protest and the rise in Asian hate. How political climate which prevented/delayed us from receiving help to avoid or test for covid, the frontlines exhausted or passed away, etc. I’m telling you, I didn’t see any light other than BTS. Thankful for that. Also, the general public liked it too and created new fans. The Rolling Stones Music Now podcast even said the world needed Dynamite and chose it as one of the best songs (among others) of 2020. I like how they also mention the albums they released that year too and that they were great (MOTS:7 and BE).
Im gonna have to say im am army and have been one since 2014 so 10 years and ive seen the struggles BTS had to go thru to where they are now and BTS deserves respect and recognition for what they have done and how many lives including mine that they have saved and healed with their music and lyrics.
Tae is defo coming to wreck every armys bias and bias wreckers lists especially with that smile at the end, also my Jiminie i still cant get over him and that ‘finger bang’ he does he owns it, also the way he looks into the camera and stares into your soul and heart. Also ther dancing and vocals (especially the raplines as i wasnt expecting them to not rap at all) and attitude they give off is just perfect. Also for being their very first song fully in english just goes to show that they have improved alot (from what i have heard and read Korean is easier to learn than english).
Also the fact that every Army right now is being biased wrecked by every member including their bias just goes to show how perfect and amazing these guys are and that they do such an amazing job with what they do as well

I love this song since it came out even though it’s so different from what they were doing before. To be honest I don’t remember if they mentioned it was song to brighten the mood before it was released, I remember Hobi saying this in their Tiny Desk Concert
When Dynamite was released in Summer 2020, I was probably in the middle of travelling through their discography; loving their lyricism, beats, and attitudes about keeping it real and saying/meaning what you feel... not quite ARMY yet. I was still in vetting mode to see what my young teenager was listening to ... in a foreign language. "I mean, they could be saying anything and you're just out here repeating it and not even knowing what you're saying!!" Bogoshipda, kwinchana hana dul set tamanicha, haru ma noa naega hamke harsu en tambyun, etc. 😂😂😂 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 Coincidentally, I feel this same way about some rap songs. 🤷🏾
I am an introvert but you wouldn't necessarily know it at a party, so when the world slowed down during the pandemic, I did not mind. Primarily bc i am an "essential worker" and still had to go to work, although not very many customers were coming into the office, I was able to listen to their music and read lyrics carefully. I actually was shoved onto the purple bunny trail by my teenager early 2020 when there were whispers of an alarmingly troublesome virus discovered in 2019. So Dynamite was/is appreciated for its assignment (Goal met) but I didn't know their character with certainty enough to not think, "oh no, I hope they don't go Pop-py." Western Pop music is one of my least listened to genres. It was pleasant but it had to grow on me; it's just easier to become an earworm bc it's in my native language ... but I still sing it with their accents :).
I love V's deadpan delivery by the truck in this video, it cracks me up, especially since everybody else is being all animated!

It’s impossible to not smile while watching any of the dynamite mvs or their performances. Everyone was so sad and stressed but their relationships & charisma is electric
Dynamite was also my first BTS song and mv and it definitely gave me a bit of a wrong first impression but I liked it enough to check out their other stuff. And then Black Swan and Fake Love really made me fall in love with them.
I love the song - its fun and I love the disco vibe. Is it my favourite BTS song? no but that doesnt make the song 'bad' and unenjoyable. This just shows how BTS can do pretty much any genre, deep lyracism or just fun dance tunes. They wanted to make it inclusive to both international and domestic ARMY (their World Tour was cancelled) so thats why they went with a more western style with the 3 English pandemic songs. I personally find this really touching and get annoyed by the overplayed criticism/shade thrown at BTS for doing 3 songs in English. Dynamite is a great party song.

Dynamite was considered their first full English song (wasn't there one before this?) & people were delighted, but some were also taken aback because of it. Because of the English, some ARMY were concerned & some general KPop fans were also concerned about BTS, or any KPop group, trying to distance away from Korean language songs. This became more concerning once Butter came after & it was discovered it was also in English, so fans got worried about the pattern. Yet BTS & other KPop groups will also make full Japanese songs for the Japan market, so it wasn't a problem at all. Besides, the root, source & origin of KPop goes back to the United States anyway. Not just KPop, but even modern Korean music styles since before KPop are based from the west. Korean Trot music, from a hundred years ago, also came from the US, it is not inherently Korean nor Japanese either. So to see BTS getting huge in the US makes BTS pave the way & come back full circle to the origin of KPop. So, it was a feel-good song as we already know, that was the whole point, & that was all that mattered in the midst of the pandemic. It was basically what RM said about them trying to relieve your pain even if only for a very tiny percentage less. Sadly, about 7 million folks globally have succumbed to this virus since the outbreak, even up to today, including new strains, as of the current stats. BigTimeSoldiers2025.

So they wanted to start going to military after their tour for MOTS7 that was planed at all of 2020, but they actually couldn't go in, so it wasen't their decision.
I don't remember them beging criticize then bc they never officially said that there is a plan after the tour, they told us about it when they were going on break in 2022, then they told us how they planed all but it vanished, the most criticizm come then when theirs time was really coming up and they told they are going on break, they will do solo activites and take personal time, but didn't give official statment about military or when they plan go, and all kind of people were talking a lot then, media were ugh at that time.
But why they didn't go with their plan when tour was canceled....
Bc of pandemic a lot of korean mens wanted to go into military bc of restrictions they couldn't work, schools were closed, so you have all this people between 18-28 that want to go bc it is convinient. But military training camps also have limited number of beds like literally they couldn't take all this people, not to say they had to be careful so nobody sick got in bc then all camp would get it.
So BTS couldn't go bc in theory only Jin was at the age that military had to let him join but not rest, but they always wanted to go at the same time. So bc they couldn't they used law that say that popular act can postpomnt until age of 30 if they meet the requirements, (there were like 2 or 3). (They are only band that can do it, bc requirements are high).
And bc they didn't go they decided to give positive song for fans and all people, they were actually very down then too do that how "Dynamite" come... From what I remember they actually gone thru songs that were send to them, and choose one that they feels would be good at that time. And later they decided to make album to let all thier emotions fly (album BE), pandemic album. And later their decided to relese two more english positive songs bc they saw how Dynamite was helping. So Butter and Permission to dance come out.
Then was time for their 10 year anniversary they give us 3 new songs and antology album Proof was relased, the one that you are going thru. Then they at Festa said about taking break and for Army day we got "Take too" song as gift and it was July 2022.
There was plan that Jin will go in summer and rest will slowly go after him, but bc there were plans for Busan concert in air, members talked and asked Jin to go later, after concert, (he gone in december), bc this Busan plans were great time to give last concert to fans, and Jin agreded, and then slowly rest went in too.
And yes there were a lot of talking about them and military but they always said they will go, all that was going around/all this talking was outside of their control, hybe never give statment or info or asked for postmonment, the only time they used law bc they could was to move their time for Jin (he go in when he was 30 in 2022), Suga (he was 30), Jhope(he was 29) and RM (he was 29 too) [this three in 2023].
And it is big deal they gone at the same time, Jin is back in 2 months, Hobi ah the and of year, and rest is coming back in middle of year.
Most band simply puts in military guy that needs to go and rest is doing solo work, or different work (like acting) or they do music without that person (I know one band that did it, weird), that is also why a lot of boybands break at this time... hmm
Actually when Jin info was relased that he is going and when, there were still talk in media and by politics about BTS and military servis, but they simply didn't care they started with their plans.
Also when Suga had surgery in statment about it there was part that they hope it will help him with servis after he recovers, but he still couldn't do normal servis, with his medical documents he can only do social servis.
Definitely not my favorite BTS song but I appreciated the point of them doing it. At the time, I felt the same way. I rarely listen to it.
