      If they are really scared that 1 million people will create accounts on the first day, and so they are keeping sharding on the table for that reason, then I understand that. But the actual answer to that problem is to create / merge realms as needed. If sharding is only used as a buffer, because creating realms and forcibly moving players is a big deal, and sharding can temporarily ease that pain, then okay.
      Note that sharding is very much like narcotics here. Useful in the short term, kills you in the longer term.

      @Nagolbud they will care if this still makes money. money talks i mean thats why you think everyone who wants something to do well is a shill right? money is the end all be all in game development. passion no longer is a factor in the creation of games so the only way to keep mmos alive is to show that there is still money in them. you're arguments are shallow lack of thought goes into them. before you call me out take a second and think about the out come. call me whatever you want but end of the day money is all that matters and if you want to play mmo's going forward then you should hope this game works out. if not i mean why are you even watching videos about mmos lol. so before your next reply i think you should really articulate what you are gonna say and not spew out some nonsense with insert random call out here.

    Lets get rid of sharding and loot sharing and we're in business.
    I can see how sharding can be useful for server stability and also during the leveling process-you won't have to "fight" with others for quest objectives. With that said sharding will take away what made Vanilla great in the 1st place-the sense of community, having to group up with randoms to get things done, giving you an incentive to be a great player and person since you WILL see everyone around at one point or another. I loved being surrounded by loads of people, it made the world feel alive!
    Loot trading is something I'm not a fan of. Its a mechanic that easy to exploit. If you join a random group of people and they happen to be friends they can easily screw you out of loot-you will be all of a sudden rolling against 4 other people rather than just the ones who actually want the item.

    • @KianaShalix
      @KianaShalix Před 5 lety +1

      Remember with out having cross realm dungeons and raids you will quickly make a name for yourself. If these friends need on an item and give it to friends people will quickly know about them and they will not be brought on most dungeons and or raids like it was in OG wow =). So be patient and they will get what is coming to them quickly.

    I'm super stoked for all the news. Feels like Classic is actually coming along.
    I do think its dangerous to pull out your pitchforks regarding sharding though. They've already stated it will only be used in the starting zones at the beginning to handle the massive initial influx of players, it isn't a long term solution. I don't think Blizzard is going to come up with another solution for this issue, and it's far better than the alternative situation where you either have insanely long server queues, or server pops that die after 2-3 weeks when the initial sightseers are gone. The longterm health of the game is far more important than getting rid of a feature that you will only encounter during the first 1-4 hours of your Classic experience. If they implement it past that, sure, grab your torches and go ham, but sit down and think about what you really want out of Classic *long term* and decide if it's really worth being unable to find groups at 60 because you didn't want any sharding while you were leveling from 1-12. Seems like a no brainer.

  • @bryia3366
    @bryia3366 Před 5 lety +4

    I happy for the later changes but indifferent to the early ones. Only the most hardcore of hardcore players were raiding Onyxia and MC 2-3 months after launch, average players took 2 months + just to get to 60 let alone get attuned and geared. The vast majority of players that did play classic would have gone MC and Onyxia after DM was released. That being said if they time the release of phase two well it should be fine. Once again only the most hardcore players are going to rush to 60 to raid so the early changes only effect them which is how it should be.

      Totally agree with this. 80% of players never saw the end game stuff. Taking time to get their will allow players to work their way there. It's not like the next expansion will be taking this out, so I say, enjoy the ride!

    • @russianbot2179
      @russianbot2179 Před 5 lety

      Getting level 60 will not take 2 months, even for average players. There are dozens of guides and addons, plus even your average player is far more familiar with the leveling system than they were when they first started Wow. These changes will indeed effect many average players.. ALSO, the fact that Dire Maul will not exist on launch is major for another reason, gold farming. Hard core players were planning to exploit Dire Maul to farm 100g per hour. This would crash the economy before the majority of players even reach max level.

    • @bryia3366
      @bryia3366 Před 5 lety +1

      @@russianbot2179 this brings up the overall problem with Classic as a whole. How it was then and how it will be today. Back in REAL classic you couldn't look up a crap ton of level guides like you can now. Addons were extremely limited to what they can do now a days. Players themselves know more about the game then ever before. Classic wow will NEVER truly be able to recreate classic or the feeling of classic because too many things have change, the players most of all.

    • @russianbot2179
      @russianbot2179 Před 5 lety

      @@bryia3366 partially true. but the main thing I am looking forward to in Classic is the epic scope of things. There was no free 'epic' gear in classic. You had to do 40 man raids and be in good favor with your guild to get your hands on epic gear. In retail wow, you literally get a free piece of epic gear just for logging in every Tuesday, and the gear is better than gear you can get in raids often times. also in retail wow, your progress was constantly reset every new patch, making most of the stuff you did last patch worthless, such as AP grinding. retail wow just feels like an arcade game, while hopefully Classic wow will feel like a real MMO, even if we know everything about it already.

      @LS-bk7xo Před 5 lety +9

      What if ... they realized fixing BFA and expansions prior to that is a war they can't win. It's an opportunity to stick closer to Classics design philosophy (mmo"RPG") and release completely new content/expansions. Maybe pick and choose the best features of all expansions and make WoW 2.0.
      I wouldn't mind that at all. A new experience is always welcome. Sure it's the easy route to "copy/paste" TBC, WotLK, and so on, but let's be honest: Who really wants to go through all expansions.
      Or you know, just keep Classic repeating itself over and over again till it dies out and work on a new intellectual property. Just keep in mind, if Classic is a huge success to generate the majority of subscribers rather than playing BFA, they'll start thinking where they can profit from it. Microtransactions *wink wink*

      Liroy Schmidt I would fucking love to lead up to wrath , but instead of Heirlooms and shitty mechanics brought in at the end they keep it pure to the old RPG style. I think people now forget where mmorpgs come from ... rolling the dice , random stats many choices of paths to take your character. Impactful item creations. Huge loreful worlds. Uniqueness in characters even if you try to make them play exactly the same .
      Blizzard knew its original and limited design . That design is now still unbeaten. I guess there hasn’t been a matching game for casuals or hardcore, committed players. Name 1 game where to this day people still sink time and effort into to make and invent new strategies into private servers of their old original game.
      Wow 2 classic systems (maybe not pvp ,tbc ftw). But talents , levelling dungeons , raids , community set up and reliability. The earning of gold gear and other consumables, crafting items. The list goes on for the amount of things classic did right. What 15 year later for a repeat to my life’s lovable game . Yes please. Even my partner thinks classic is the better game . Hey Tips!
    This is good news indeed!
    However I dont know why tier 0,5 is not in ZG patch.
    Even the devs thought it came out so late that nobody ever bothered to complete.
    It was an expensive and tedious chain quest that didnt make any difference at that point in game.
    I completed it on my druid back then just for fun and because I have an OCD personality so an uncompleted quest in my log really annoyed me.
    I was inspected and laughed at when I equipped for the first time.
    Feralheart was nice and had all around stats for a druid that wanted to grind or farm but with the opening of AQ it was a waste of time and gold. It was not a random blue preraid bis or anything. You needed to have all wildheart pieces and using mats, gold and a lot of grind, summoned 5 man bosses and elite encounters to get a tiny upgrade. It took some time and effort for nothing.
    Any thoughts?

  • @NicholasBrakespear
    @NicholasBrakespear Před 5 lety +3

    I still think the most important result of classic, in the long-run, is that both Blizzard and other developers will have a chance to see how real MMORPGs are supposed to work, and what made them work well 14 years ago.
    Because I'm real tired at this point of playing MMOs where the focus is on soloable, heavily scripted quest content and NPC interaction so that "massively multiplayer" just means "singleplayer game, but people randomly bounce past you killing your mobs". And I'm tired of MMOs where there's just an endlessly resetting grind in which every expansion introduces new currencies and resources specifically designed to negate your previous character progress.
    My dream scenario would be an eventual WoW remaster, in which they took classic, applied all the modern graphical updates, actually got around to updating all the old textures and models, and then steadily re-released all the expansion content... but rebuilt it from the ground up to adhere to the original game's design principles and smooth progression curve. Make it one big game, instead of "the latest expansion content, with all the older stuff serving as a redundant tutorial".

    itemization aside, I am glad to see more phases if only because it will space out progression and allow me to take time to savor and enjoy each level of content without the feeling that I'm in a ladder. race. I don't know if the timetable for phase progression has been discussed, but I hope, since there isn't a classic tbc currently in discussion, that it is as slow if not a slower phase progression than live vanilla.

    "participants in world boss events" means something much different on pvp servers than it did on pve.
    When word (pre discord) went out that a guild was going to try, the other faction's pvp types would go disrupt.
    One great thing about vanilla was the lack of resilience. So, at least people trying to do a world boss (or even just get into a raid or dungeon instance) weren't doubly hurt by being in pve gear.

    I am looking soo much forward to classic. At the same time i am worried about the PvP. Old AV was truly Epic. But it also slowly died as it was made easier and it recived its killing blow when the PvP AV Tokens arrived along with the reinforcements update since then players would then start to just rush the last boss and ignore all form of pvp.

    Gotta get this off my chest. When Classic was announced I jumped online and talked about proper progression and gear itemisation and spells and talents and how everything evolved during the lifetime of Classic and therefore having this pure "1.12" situation where everything was as it was at 1.12 from day one was really bad. And I got rounded on mercilessly by people who said that a progressive Classic was bad/dumb/unrealistci/etc and that pure 1.12 was the go. Man today reading the post from Blizzard today I can see that while things won't be exactly right (looking at you evolving spells and talents!) the rest of the Classic "progression" is pretty much what we need. I feel massively vindicated. Happy, happy day!

    Im not for loot sharing at all, having raided end game since vanilla I'm way too familiar with the option to abuse this system. It had such a hard impact on loot systems like dkp and wish list, offered us a new way to ninja loot and/or enforced rwt.
    People might look beyond this and not realize how much of an impact this is, selling raid boost + loot was pretty much unheard of with the old system, I'm not gonna say that it never happened but loot sharing made real world trading explode.
    That's my biggest concern.
    Next point is sharding, oh boy.... Sharding during release is for sure going to kill the fun, remember the level 1 wars on fresh server releases? Well, I do and I'm sure a lot of people want to rush and takeover Barrens with alliance characters cuz that's fucking amazing and I think it would be really problematic is you could actually go into an enemy territory and just phase out and face 2-3 enemies with your 40 party and start questing there, makes no sence since that zone should have a ton of enemies (keep in mind that sharding will never phase out party/raid members, making it possible to run into a zone with 40 man and then split into parties of 5 and just insta phase by rejoining the raid group IF you phase into too many of the opposite faction.)
    If you're and orc rogue you're supposed to have a hard time to get that red defias face mask, and getting to WC as alliance should be a living hell.
    ^ all this is just first day action, 2-3 day when the STV starts getting crowded, sharding would kill the experience.
    Right click report? I don't mind it at all.

    I can essentially guarantee there will be sharding because they said they would rather have a smooth launch than a messy one, and they were pretty adamant about it being there. The phases were stated time and time again they can and will change, sharding 100% not. Its going to be something that people will have to live with or just not play I feel.

    • @LS-bk7xo
      @LS-bk7xo Před 5 lety

      Classic will not be the same game as vanilla with fully implemented sharding. A smooth launch (sharding in starting zones for a few days or weeks) is the ONLY case where it can cherish a healthy, successful classic experience and community.

  • @uni4rm

    Tch. You guys. it doesn't matter if Dire Maul is phase 1 or 2. By the time there is enough people at 60, it will be months down the line anyway. The majority of WoW population that raided, raided MC AFTER Dire Maul was out, because almost no one was 60. If their phases are more spread out than vanilla wow's patches, then it will actually slow progression compared to vanilla.

    Actually this progression only blizzlike for max 10% of the vanilla players. In EU WOW launched next year with an already progressed patch, and only after this the players started to buy WoW and as a result blizzard opened more and more new realm, and when the majority of the realms were opened after the initial WoW launch the servers already had darkmoon, dragons, DireMaul and some later servers even had BWL. Anyone can check the WoW population and the timeline. I rerolled on any new server because I loved leveling on a fresh, did it on at least 7 new server (they usually came every 2-3 or later 4 month) and for m and many other this was not the server patch progress... but I'm fine experiencing the USA launch timeline so no problem! :)

    Sharding should only be considered at launch and even then it depends on the size of the servers. It will only really help the casual players cause most of the hardcore players will be ahead of the zerg.
    If implemented at other times it would ruin a lot of the vanilla experience.

  • @Doball9080
    @Doball9080 Před 5 lety

    Unpopular opinion here, but I'm all for sharding early on to avoid congestion issues. Assuming the servers can handle non-sharding at launch, I don't see the fun in spending 90 seconds or so running around trying to find a mob that isn't already dead and its spawn being camped. Leveling a fresh character on a private server weeks after it's launched is way more fun and enjoyable, then trying to level one during its launch. There are actually mobs to kills and it's possible to do quests. Having experienced launches on several private servers, I can say, I'm all for early on sharding. Just my opinion though.
