This is the type of interviews Blizz should be doing, thanks for stepping up and doing what they should be doing :)
the creators themselves have better distribution than blizzard does in terms of reaching the most engaged audience. This is exactly what they should be doing.
this is what an interview with a small team looks like.
The Classic WoW team is kind of like a company within a company, they are mostly independent.
Blizzard is a giant company in 2019, they do things differently.
I know it sucks but this is what happens when you get to a certain scale.
@@ARandomSub And why do you think that is? Because they don't do it. A combination of the two is a good strategy,.
Considering Blizzard is responsible for bringing the content creators in and dedicating time for these interviews, don't you think they deserve some of the credit? It's not like this investigative journalism. It was a press event.
Audio was fine, also happy to hear tbc is on the table,
Tabled But Compromised
i mean itd have to be at some point - classic cant last forever. they could of course have both options, servers for classic only and then progression servers
poor omar looks like he hasnt slept since 2004.
Never realized before how big Tips actually is. Huge frame.

He should change his name to Thicc Tips Out

The best part is Tips saying "As always, tips out, baby!" in the presence of 2 Classic Wow Devs, hahahahahaha. Thanks for the interview mannn, so stoked!
Keeping up with the always part, good job!
Did you seriously say "blue posts are like taking a shot of cocaine in the morning" lol?
I loved that part lol.
what's the problem?
Hey tips, I'm an Audio Engineer by trade, I can clean this audio up for you in like two seconds if you want.

It's actually really cool to see those guys took the time to do this interview and give us more details!
So glad they've finally pulled their fingers out of their asses, and are more open towards potential TBC and WOTLK servers further down the line. Really makes me confident that the classic release will be one of the best releases blizzard has had to date.
Lets just keep classic, tbc and wotlk servers and pretend that evertyhing after never happened
TBC and Wrath are ok, if there is:
-No dumbing-down of content
-No DKs (at least not as they were in wotlk)
-No Flying, redesign Northrend in a way that no flying is needed.
-No LFD, No LFR, no Catch-Up mechanics
-No Cross-Realm, No Sharding
-significantly harder WOTLK-Heroics, they were a joke
-some challenging open world content to Wotlk
-Classes As they were in classic
As long as WoW feels like a world rather than a stage to level up, I'm happy.
hey John Hight, make TBC and Wrath on a different server please. Let us play Classic forever :)
Luís Henrique Rohde Yes it would be cool if they made separate servers for expansions that you could transfer to.. Allowing you to stay on classic for as long as you’d like. Even better, allow you to copy and paste a character to another expansion allowing you to still play the same character on classic but level/play on another expansion.
@@zoogie980 "copy paste" might be a bit broken "cut paste" or "transfer" seems more fair and realistic.
@@zoogie980 That's exactly what I was thinking bro :)
I’m still wondering if I should play Classic again or not, I want to, but i’m scared to get addicted again.
Not to be hipster but pre cata was all fun, I liked the grinding, old talent trees, difficulty, 90% of all quests being useless.
The old skills and levels of them. Everything.
Same boat. Gonna give it a try though. They did all this work and seem to be trying to be community focused, so I have to resub and see how it plays out.
Honestly man, when I played a private server a few years ago by level 5 I could feel the addiction coming. I did not want to stop and I made the decision to stop there, however this is a once (twice) in a lifetime opportunity to play classic at release. Have some fun!
You might be, but as an older person I can say I'd be more addicted to the community than being the best on the server.
Video description: "In this video, I discuss if Casual players can still enjoy Classic WoW, and how far Casual players can expect to get in Classic WoW" - looks like a copy/paste description from your "Can Casual Players still enjoy Classic WoW" video by accident.
Hope he sees this and changes it
Now these are the interview questions we wanted. Everything asked was something that was on my mind! Great questions!
Realm transfer is ok i guess. But please no name change otherwise dbags can just rename their toons and the vanilla reputation building will be null and void
I don't think changing your name removes you from people's ignore list.
dbags can realm transfer then and vanilla reputation building will be null and void
100% agree with this, Dbags will suffer no consequences
There was a way to find out where people went using an external armoury type website like wow-progress or something.
If a new char appeared on a server that matched one that left another it flagged as a possible name change/transfer I believe.
Great interview Tips! Some of the best and most passionate developers!
layering or sharding it doesn't matter. If someone invites someone from another ''layer'' of eastern kingdoms and they accept, from the way they described it, means they will STILL HOP OVER. no one cares if the shard of elwynn and tanaris is the same, it is if there are 2 elwynns that players on the same server can be in, thus not being able to see EVERYONE, like in classic
dynamic respawn like on nostalrius was the best way to go ......
@@thomasberthe6580 I agree, still a change, but a less game breaking one
@Jacomo65 Ion said that layering is for the first month at most, not all of phase 1. But they have broken the "only starting zones" part.
Fullmetal891 They said they were gonna keep it as long as they feel it was needed but it would be gone by phase 2...They never confirmed it for ALL of phase 1. They said it could be 2-3-4weeks or however how they feel...
@Fullmetal891 Where is that 100% confirmation for all of phase 1?
Nooooo, I don't want x-realms! It was nice to know your enemies, who to hunt down and who to run away from. Arch enemies was a beautiful thing.

Maaan! Finally, the devs from when Blizz was Blizz, some of the old ones at least, are showing their faces and their original work and love for what they make and create. You can begin to see again the passion for the game! I rarely leave a comment on ytube but I'm so glad and exited as an old-time gamer, that I felt the need to share my joy with you guys, with you Tips and say that I feel like a 13 year old boy again (when I first played Warcraft 3 and herd about the launch of WoW) waiting for this years greatest gift! See you in Classic! And if at least TBC will be brought, maaaan! That would be so great!
It was really comforting seeing how excited and open he sounded to the idea of making classic PTE. That would be the dream!
Layering sounds very sketchy if it goes beyond the starting zones.
Different population densities at different ends of a continent, like STV is packed with alliance, and arathi is packed with horde or vice versa.
It might also impact the ability of Esfand's Paladin Protection Squad, not being able to assist if people are in a different layer.
"Prince Nazjak is up on my layer. 5g for invite, pst"
"Hey I'm about to get ganked, what layer are you on? Invite pls"

@@Zeul28 That's what I thought, haha.
Excelent intervue. Good information. Continent layering is certainly a great compramise if dynamic layers are only created when an entire realms population exceeds a cap. If the layers are activated based on any one zone having too many people then its just zone sharding with a new name.
Realm layering could be exploited when a population hits the realm cap by joining party with someone on the less populated continent layer or relogging to take advantage of more bountuful resources or even aquire resources from both layers by joining and leaving different groups. They will need to add systems to stop or disencentivise layer hopping like a queue time to hop or relog and as long as the continent layer only occurs when the realm cap hits like 10,000 as apposed to a zone cap that hits 20 its still an epic improvement over retail sharding.
Good interview man, and the sound didn't bother me at all :) No worries, thanks!

7:00 So, if I'm being camped or my farm spot is contested, can I try to log out and log back in on a different layer of the same server?
Video description is inaccurate? "In this video, I discuss if Casual players can still enjoy Classic WoW, and how far Casual players can expect to get in Classic WoW"
:P
Wonderful Thank you Tips and John,Omar..
Audio is actually alright, my main issue is that the camera should be more behind you, your subject should be looking towards the camera not so much the side. Anyway great interview thanks!
Layering if I got it right:
There are multiple copies (layers) of your chosen realm and you stick with your layer and all the people who also got assigned to it, building a full server population. If your friend gets assigned to another layer, you add him to your friendslist and group up. Then one of you will transition the layer and see players fade once. After that, you will only see and interact with people on your layer so there wont be a need to switch layers again. Also this gives them the chance to merge layers if population of a server drops too low at some point building a high population server again.
I could imagine that there would be a bit of changing around layers at the beginning until all premade friends are eventually assigned to the same layer but then converging to a fixed population with the same people.
Its actually a very interesting idea from a developer standpoint and I could see them using it for retail aswell
Edit: Interesting to know would be if there is a way for Tips, Esfand and Staysafe to make sure they land on the same layer being on different factions, so they can gank eachother in strangle
Audio is fine Tips, all info is appreciated
What a great interview! You fucking nailed it! :D
Good questions and we get some nice info. Keep up the good work!
sounds fine Thanks for your work following Classic
super looking forward to classic servers, as my time in vanilla was spent exclusively leveling (didnt even make it to 58 for the opening of the dp), and cant wait to sample what i missed, but i would be in nostalgia heaven if they did do (separate) TBC servers at some point down the line. i wont hold my breath however.
Hey Tips, what the hell happens when people multibox to jump layers?
Walt so there will be Sharding in all the zones not just starting zones? They call it layering but i dont see how its different. This appears to be awful News to me. Unless i misunderstood something.
The main difference is that with this "layering", you won't have people disappear when going into new zones, and you won't get the random "pulses" like in retails where you suddenly load into a new shard while just standing around in the capital.
It's a much better system than sharding, but still far from perfect. I would have loved to see a system where layers are instead zone dependent, so you are able to see everyone on your server all the time, but entering a different zone would pop you into a new "layer". That would reduce server lag but also make you able to see everyone on your server. But i guess it's too expensive of an option for them to wanna go that route.
It's basically continent-sized sharding within a single server, it seems.
Ok i suppose that solves some of the problems but still dissapointing. Lets hope this layering is just for the first few weeks and then gone forever. I have a feeling it Will be permanent tho but we Will se.
Im baffled over the fact that Tips thinks its amazing. Feels like an dishonest reaction to me. Whatever happend to #no changes? I suppose he has to comply with whatever blizz does in order to keep getting perks from them.
@@flouris3880 Sadly, the initial sharding idea was to only be temporary. As i understand it the layering will be permanent because they feel it doesn't impact servers too negatively compared to the positives (server stability)
As I am writing this the "corrected" Audio hasn't been added - and the sound is really fine. All of you are loud and clear and the little background-noise isn't that intrusive.
Dear Lord, the thought of replaying Wrath just gave me goosebumps. Even if it doesn’t happen, I can’t wait for Classic.
i cannnoooot wait for my mini diablo to be following me again in classic
TBC in my opinion needs to be separate from Classic. I like the idea of just copying your level 60 from Classic over to TBC. Make those Alliance Shaman's and Horde Paladins do some damn leveling just like it was when we went through the Dark Portal.
@Jacomo65 TBC was amazing, it went the shit at the end of Wrath. Plus, in a couple year we will be ready for something besides classic.
@Jacomo65 Tbc was the most played wow expansion, and a most of us says,it was the best,
@Jacomo65 i mean, not that tbc will come anytime soon, if it comes it comes not in the real future, maybe 3-4years away from that. Eventually, Classic have to end at some point.
Blizzard have really been listenin’ to the community i am super impressed by them
Blizzard should add the new server technology to retail and make mega servers on top of that. It would totally bring back the sense of community to retail.
If it's successful it would be stupid of them not to apply those successes to future expansions.
Great video man!
for the point at 15:10. A possible option could be to disable location sharing for bnet friends?
Great questions :D
Dude you should of asked if they might do vanilla content post Naxx patch like have Hyjal or Dragon islands.
Great interview though!
i got to say i am extremely happy that you admit when you have been wrong and you do tell people when you are not sure about if something was in Vanilla or not there are way to many people who wont admit that playing on a private server for such a long time changed their memory
It's getting close. I just connected my old account from classic to my newer one. Saved from a account hack :)
I am a veteran from 04/05. We managed to overcome all the population problems back then. Why is it such a huge problem now?
Thanks Tips! I now understand that Casual players can still have a blast in Classic WoW!

GET READY GUYS 27.08.2019!!!
Hey tips i have a question. With the Layering system. if me and my friend are on layer 1. does that mean ill never ever see players from Layer 2? Also is layering a temp system for launch or is it always going to be apart of Classic?
Your layer will be chosen whenever you log in. So if you and your friend are on Layer 1 and you both log out and log back in, you may be on Layer 3 and he may still be on Layer 1. However, since you're added as friends, when you both create a party, you will both be moved to the same layer, be that Layer 1 or Layer 3. Don't worry about Layers feeling unpopulated as by what was seen from the layering mechanic in the stress test, Layers are much MUCH larger than shards. Like 250 people in a zone that has 3 other races on the same continent (therefore in the same layers) kind of large. Also, remember that layering was confirmed to be removed by content bucket #2 at the latest. They're hoping to remove it earlier once starting zone populations stabilize after launch (Fingers crossed that's after about the first month)
@@renloris460 So how does this effect the server identity. Or is it 1 servers Multiple layers?
@@Lukengoodz each server will have it's own layers. There will be multiple servers at launch. As for server identity, groups of friends will most likely end up slowly transitioning into the same layer whenever they log on. However, hopefully this will only affect maybe the first 8 levels or so for many players that are more exploring the game rather than power-leveling. For pvp powerlevelers, this will likely cause a few issues as people may use the layer phasing to get away from enemies. That's why I'm hoping this is removed quickly once the starter zones stabilize. And people can spread across the world
@@renloris460 ok np. Im glad its a temp thing. thanks for replying
Great video, thank you for doing this and asking good questions. I just wanna say how well I think Blizzard is handling classic thus far. Not everyone is gunna be happy but they are making essential sacrifices and compromises that will enhance the final product. Just my opinion. No doubt that they are engaged with the community and standing by their idea of recreating the game in an authentic matter. I am extremely excited and I have a good feeling Blizz is gunna deliver on this one. Cheers.
its so funny how their work shirts look like those classic 90's shirts that you would see people at hot topic wear hahah
Original mount system - Seeing as it was in for the majority of Vanilla we decided we'd honour that authenticity.
Cross realm battlegrounds - Seeing as it was in 1.12 we decided we'd like to support that feature for classic.
Ugh
xrealm existed for like 2 months of vanilla LOL
At the very moment he mentioned sharding/layering "Thats interesting, actually very cool." Whats wrong Tips?
He’s clearly a sellout.
In phase 2 when the alyers consolidate you will know it was the right decision for long term healthy population. Or do you want dead servers?
sound is fine, awesome interview CLASSIC HYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE!
Audios fine man
This layering news instantly makes me mad. So they're just gonna shard the entire world!? WTF
How is that going to work with resources like herbs or rare hunter pets. Just search for a fresh layer so you can collect black lotus or broken tooth? That will be stupid.
Yeah, you can probably Just relog and try to go for a new layer. The silver lining it's that it's only for phase 1.
same dude
god forbid 2 people want to kill the same fucking bear its not like they can group up or anything. any amount of sharding is cancer to the game
Don’t play then :)

great interview but i suggest getting a better camera and external mics (assuming it seems like recorrded by go pro like or iphone setup) it will be way better experience for future views. this one looks a like early 2000s or late 90s videos atm. :) not 2019.

@@dawn-blade they basically confirmed they will implement them one way or another IF Classic is successful. If that means an extension of WoW or maybe BC/Wrath-enabled servers, who knows. Also, wonder what their definition of success is as well.
@@iamripoff Yea spot on, they mention if the 'Community' push for it, they will look into making it happen.

Anyone considering AOE leveling at launch will need to abuse this system, or not do aoe leveling lol
how are you gonna abuse the layering to some great extent if they just said in the video that you will always be on a layer with a full population cap? you switching from crowded to crowded, how does that help?
@@Frog89mad

Isn't the point of classic.
that we need to keep classic. Isn't it the reason private servers have used classic for so long.
not really. one of the main reasons people like classic was because of its design philosophy. it was an actual RPG, were you had to spend time earning things and unlocking things, you needed to make friends to succeed, and virtually no welfare hand outs. epics were epic, etc.
@@russianbot2179 but he talked about releasing tbc and then we just have something running along the same old.
Should rather talk about classic specific expansions.
@@Zutraxi right that annoyed me. Tips should have asked for all new expansions that have the same design philosophy as vanilla or TBC
How will the stance on Collector's Edition pet affect the other promo pets gotten in Vanilla? Like Gurky/Murky?
@Tips Out
Please emphasize in your feedback and in 'being our voice' that I truly don't believe people want to simply recreate WoW's evolution, and here's what I mean by that:
If they eventually just roll into BC, we'll lose Vanilla/Classic again.
The key thing they should do is to create a totally separate system as essentially a copy of Classic and layer BC onto THAT, so that people who wish to unendingly remain in Vanilla can do so, and people who want to 'move on' to BC can do that, too.
Leave both systems, both games separate: one as only Classic, forever and always, the second as Classic+BC, each their own closed environments so it's not just the same thing a 2nd time around where people feel like their progress, time and effort will eventually be undermined by expansions.
I don't think they will ''erase'' classic it will be more ' TBC is now starting, people who want to join in just change to the new Xpac or stay in Vanila' kinda thing
@@David_loves_foods It would honestly be a mistake to irreversibly 'leave' Vanilla a second time around, but if they made a secondary Vanilla+BC where people could copy their Vanilla characters over and continue on into BC, but leave everything in Classic as-is for those who want it for what it offers, which is: to not 'lose progress' to an expansion that essentially invalidates your hours and hours farming BIS gear, min/max'ing your character, etc.
Having them separate preserves one of the biggest reasons why people want Classic, which is to return to what the game once was, and not lose it this time, to expansions and increased level caps, and greens and blues replacing epics and legendaries, etc.
Leaving Classic in it's own separate environment and not eventually abandoning it once again, whilst still offering a Vanilla+BC environment, arguably gives the best of both worlds where you can both continue your character's progression up to lvl 70, searching for new BIS items at the 70-cap, but still having your 60 in Classic, not having permanently lost it and the work + achievement of fully gearing it, could honestly be a kind of future for WoW in some major ways.
One big upside to an expansion is the new/fresh content it offers, but one big downside is always the feeling of forever leaving the old expansion behind except to briefly level through once more.
Having your character 'Save-Game' essentially, at each max level tier, separated from the 'next tier' while also being able to copy/paste your character into the new 'tier', keeps the best of both worlds, as it preserves the work and effort involved with hitting max level and getting BIS and max performance from your character, but also allows you to still experience new content.
Think of it as like, multiple timelines for your character.
What so, so many people want from Vanilla, and have wanted for years and years and years, is to be able to go back to those once-relevant areas, and have them relevant once more. Expansions having moved on brought many good things, but also irreversibly left behind forever, those once-relevant places.
@@HEricW.77 yes if we can copy paste to the new Xpac and keep the the original one it would be the best
It would be cool to have the TBC, I'm a sort of a TBC kid myself, played Vanilla for, like, 1 month before the TBC release. Also it would be cool to have a feature to one-way transfer your character from Classic/Vanilla servers to the Classic/TBC server. Or maybe not to transfer, but rather copy it. Or nothing of the abovementioned.
They better be ready. This is going to be huge.
I got an ad for makeup cream, CZcams sure knows how to target advertise on these videos.
Disappointed that you didn't ask about the AQ war effort, if there would be anything done to make it not be so easily preparable so it doesn't end too quickly due to everybody knowing exactly what to expect. Seemed like the perfect time to bring that up.
Nice! Still missing the question wht type of realms there will be: pve, pvp, rp, rp-pvp.
Currently there are only planned to be PvE, PvP, and RP servers. However, the RP community has been attempting to give backlash to this option as over half of the RP community was hoping to play on an RP-PvP server at launch. Right now there is a petition with over 1000 signatures on it for a single RP-PvP server to be created for the community to prove there is a need for this server type at launch.
If you would like to sign to help the community out for a chance at a single server, this is the petition:
