Recently, serpentiem made a big update on DDMK mod for DMC1, so I took this as the best opportunity to jump in and play some DMC1!
It has weapon switching, Sparda Full Power, "reset motion" (a feature to cancel moves), aswell as a training mode, arcade, boss rush... well, you get the idea. Pretty cool overall.
You can do sick combos using the training tool, dmc1 has a feature on the shotgun (some call it shotgun snatch) where you can control the knockback property of the shotgun shot using your left stick, so this is huge for some good frosts combos, RK made one in Twitter if you want to check: / 1433136111212138498
I think the last room against frosts was sick, only the big charged punch didn't connect at the end :/

The first Devil May Cry is still my favorite game in the series. I remember back when I first played it the year it was released. I was 11 years old and I had just undergone surgery to remove a tumor from my leg which unfortunately didn't take because it grew back a year later. I was out with my mother and my middle brother doing some Christmas shopping and my brother asked to be dropped off at one of our friends house who lived just down the street from us. About a two minute walk from my house.
I asked if I could be dropped off as well but my mother was nervous because I was still recovering from the surgery. My brother told her that he'd keep an eye on me and call her when we were ready to come home so I wouldn't have to walk back. When we got to my friends house many of our other friends were already there as they usually were. I was hanging out with them like usual but then something strange happened. I was gripped by a deep sadness. I had been experiencing depression for most of my life but I never really realized it up until that point. I think maybe the pain I was in recovering from surgery made me start thinking about myself more. All I know is I really didn't want to stay there so I decided to quietly slip out the front door and walk back home.
The problem was other than the fact that I just had my leg cut open a few weeks before was the fact that there had been a winter storm and the ground was covered in ice. I don't know if it actually took an hour to get back to my house but it certainly felt like it. It was the most physically challenging thing I've ever done in my life. Trying to walk back while constantly slipping on the ice. But strangely in a way it felt right. I can't really describe it but it made the sadness seem less oppressive.
When I walked through my front door my mother and older brother were shocked to see me. At first my mother was furious with my middle brother for not keeping an eye on me but I ensured her that it wasn't his fault. She eventually calm down and I sat in the living room just trying to get a handle on the pain. But my older brother knew that there was something else wrong. He went down the hall into his room and got his PlayStation 2 and brought it out into the living room with a copy of Devil May Cry.
My mother noticed that I was playing it a lot so she got me my own PlayStation 2 and my brother gave me the copy of Devil May Cry. I got completely absorbed into it. Being in a tremendous amount of pain and just beginning to understand that I was depressed slipping into the shoes of a demon mercenary was just what I needed.
Incidentally at around this time was also the first time I watched The Goonies. My mother brought it home because I had never seen it and she thought it would help take my mind off the pain. To this day I can't play the first Devil May Cry without also watching The Goonies as well as the other way around.

@@DoctahFurekku Yeah it's been wild. But I honestly look back on that time with a lot of joy and nostalgia. A lot of things in my life were getting heavy but there was also a lot of good to balance it out.

Real time weapon switching (or instant weapon switching at least, technically you could switch Alastor and Ifrit but it was slow as shit) in DMC1 is a dream come true.
It was a hardware limitation, at first dante wasnt even to have two weapons at once, now imagine playing dmc1 while being able to use either alastor or the guns at once, not both at the same time, at least they tried to cram two weapons at once, but you would think DMC1 gets the same treatement of free weapons switching like they did with dmc3 switch but they didnt and thats a big fuck up

@@axelyuro1999i think he means in the HD re-release. I’ve heard that DMC 3 didn’t have insta-switch until that re-release either.
@@notever8401no? weapon switching was in DMC2 as well. Limited to two weapons at a time. (might’ve been a memory issue or just a gameplay restriction)
@@notever8401 dmc3 have switch only for 2 weapons. Dmc 3 switch can switch style in game while on normal dmc3 you choose one style and that style it is for the mission.
In parts of the series after DMC 2, Dante is shown more as a merry fellow and an acrobat who, in order to kill someone, needs to rain down a million blows per second. While in DMC 1, although Dante was a trickster, he was also shown to be a dangerous swordsman no worse than Sparda. And what adds to the charm is that he is both an excellent shooter, and the firearm doesn’t feel like just filler, it feels like a weapon. And I like the fact that in order to parry an attack, you need to strike with a sword, and not perform some kind of magical movement with your hands. This emphasizes Dante's strength, he does not need any magic, he reflects attacks solely through skills
Devil may cry 1 heavy hitting and canceling combos are SO TASTY you just have to make a play through with this style
i would like a remake of 1 and 2
Please remake 2 especially, it needs it and it had potential to be really good

So glad that ddmk now has dmc1 features. Weapon switch was a must.
The older DDMK version is more flexible, as this one reset player motion every time Devil Arms are switched.
But I think it's gonna be great after a couple more releases. I was planning on releasing a DMC 1 combo mad last week, but I got a lot of stuff to do and had to postpone it. There is some techs you can learn in this game as time goes on. Keep going, mate. 😎

Yes, but in the next parts the combat became much more complex and more convenient for creating complex and long combos, so the shotgun in the next parts is more of a secondary weapon
To this day DMC1 is still the most immersive game in the series. The atmosphere is so thick and the ambient soundtrack is a work of art. I hope DMC6 returns to its horror roots bc there's still nothing quite like DMC1, even 22 years later. Definitely one of the most unique and groundbreaking games of all time
Honestly the more simple approch makes combos more fun to me since you have to get really creative with what you're given

DMC1 is the best. DMC4 isn´t even a finished game, DMC3 has terrible bosses and DMC5 forces Nero and V down your throat

It also has a bad gameplay, is nowhere near as good as the others and is janky.
It has the worst camera., bad platforming, and stupid and unnecessary "puzzles".
It doesn't even have a proper identity because it feels more like a resident evil.
Some people say that DMC 1 is the best because of "nostalgia" or to be contrarians. And I'm not saying that is a bad game, I like it and I finished it several times, but is not the best one

That game is a genius miracle having been made by two genius game makers in an golden age of video games. Yeah 1M combo yeah flashy youtube showcase, yeah ps 3,4,5 power yeah all of that but at the end none of that this is dmc as the first gem is.
If nelo was a dmc player when this came out back on ps2 in 2001 and sent this video to capcom he would have been on the dmc2 team and fixed it and improved the series more

First actual game that was 60 fps and movie like to the point The Getaway people were impressed by it. It was a Spain castle. Noticed the reboot is based on Italy vs Spain using Roman and Greek mythologys. First strategy guide along with Metal Gear 2 on ps2 cause it was gear towards new game plus with the memory card. To avoid corrupted leveling. Or avoid level warping other games were known for.

Edit: I'm not sure why, but Devil Trigger is completely broken for me. It won't turn on whatsoever.
Gun witcher only crashes the game if you change weapons while the projectile is still on the screen.

Pretty sure it is a MOD. Vanilla Devil May Cry requires you to go through an animation to switch devil arms.

I found it weird that there are only 2 weapons you can switch to without opening up the menu, you’d think they’d be 3 weapons
There are reasons why you should not switch between Sparda and other weapons, kind of the way the game was programmed.

The principal reason because you can't it's because the other weapon it's Sparda, and it doesn't have an available DT because Sparda it's the weapon with more base damage of the game

It actually does, it's just more limited in application. It's how shotgun hiking and vortex cancel work

Still doesn't change the fact that DMC1 was the most weirdly designed out of the original trilogy (Some might say DMC2 was the worst, but it wasn't as weird as DMC1). You needed a mod to do stylish combos, without it, it's near impossible to do stylish combos in DMC1. Even worse when the game actually punishes you for taking too long in a mission (We're talking not more than 3-10 minutes depending on the mission) by severely lowering your ranking at the end of mission, which affects how much you orbs you get, which affects how you can upgrade yourself for later missions.
