I at the tender age of 77 have loved this movie since it was released. On the other hand, my dear wife HATES it and I cannot watch it with her in the room!
It’s the best depiction of sustained love so innocent and accepting. I watch it every year also. Tender hearts. Two people together who truly understand their inner self, without judgement.
They make a lovely couple Alan Alda tall dark and handsome and Ellen Burstyn just glowingly beautiful. I first saw this move years ago and now in 2019 it's still one of my favourites.
Hands down, this is my # 1 top movie of all time, a simple film built on character, two human beings who meet , become friends, eventually falling in love..remaining loyal with an enduring friendship ,respect & love -thru the decades....pure Bliss ! Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn had one of the best screen chemistries in cinema history. The look Ellen gives at 3:12 speaks volumes, and this beautiful music-PERFECT ! Legendary Marvin (RIP) & The Bergman's. Love like this does not come around often.
Read what the critics said about the film when it was released --- Janet Maslin of the New York Times said, "Mr. Slade's screenplay isn't often funny, and it's full of momentous events that can't be laughed away . . . As directed by Robert Mulligan . . . Same Time, Next Year is both less and more than it could have been. By moving the action outdoors once in a while, or into the inn's restaurant, Mr. Mulligan loses the element of claustrophobia that might have taken an audience's mind off the screenplay's troubles. But he substitutes the serenity of a California coastal setting, and gives the film a visual glamour that is mercifully distracting. Mr. Mulligan seems to have been more interested in sprucing up the material than in preserving its absolute integrity, and under the circumstances, his approach makes sense . . . Mr. Alda isn't terribly playful, and he reads every line as if it were part of a joke, which only accentuates the flatness of the script. Miss Burstyn, on the other hand . . . brings so much sweetness to Doris's various incarnations that the character very nearly comes to life."
Now, this is gonna very hard for all of us here. So listen to me very carefully okay? Walter Mirisch, one of the most celebrated indie producers in both film and TV won 3 Academy Awards who died at the age of 101. In 1957 he formed the Mirisch Corporation and began to make numerous projects for wonderful filmmakers like Billy Wilder, John Sturges, John Ford, George Roy Hill, Norman Jewison, William Wyler, Hal Ashby, Blake Edwards, John Huston, John Badham, Robert Mulligan and Antoine Fuqua. He survived by his wife, Patricia and their children, Anne, Andrew, Lawrence and Richard. So thank you, Walter, for the movies and everything you did for all of us. You're the best. RIP.
I love this movie!!! It was great to see them grow and change over the years and to still love each other. Doris particularly fascinated and delighted me.
I met someone liked this but at work. Even though she decided to marry we still could not stay away. We parted She wrote Promising to come back to me permanently. When I tried to reconnect by sending her a Purple Crystal I found out she Passed Away I’m 2015 I miss her Every Single Second I Pray for her to come take me Home 🏡 I Miss You
This was an outstanding movie, that I’m sure many people can identify with, even if they don’t have the exact same scenario. Very interesting how they can have this very special thing, yet remain “dedicated” to their married spouses.
Getting ready to go out to the night club one night in 1978, I happened to pass by my TV set and then stopped when I heard this song. Then I watched this lovely movie. No, I never made it to the club that night. I still remember watching this with my beautiful Mother. RIP
I remember watching this movie with an old boyfriend back in the 90s. (He was my high school sweetheart but hardly a sweetheart!). I remember liking this movie and looked forward to anytime it was being shown on tv. Now fully understanding what this movie is about, I'd never be able to enjoy it like did when I was really young. Nope.
I've viewed this movie any time it has been on TV. The music just enfolds you and the love tho' adulterous is a beautiful relationship. I frequently view one of these sites for the music and lyrics.

Same time next year..... I always knew thats all it would be my entire life, I knew that would touch my life... how did a little girl know that there would have been you...
This was really a good film. I find it mystifying that it can not be streamed on any platform. Proof that the internet does not contain every bit of information in this world.
@@daakrolbit’s iconic! It’s a stage play on Broadway for decades and a constant in the major theatre centres of the English speaking. It’s not released becauee of copyright disputes. And you need to look up esoteric in the dictionary since you egregiously misuse it.

@ 0:30 The verse melody of "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You", recorded by George Benson (1985), sounds VERY close to this theme - which was written much earlier (1978).
EDDIE yo no siento que sea inmoral es maravilloso pasar por eso. Bueno yo no tengo esposo. Pero es lindo pasar por eso vivo lejos y por eso lo veo cada año
I liked this movie and I love the theme song, but I am ashamed of watching it because it deals with the sin of adultery and that is not pleasing to our Heavenly Father. There is nothing more important to me than pleading our Almighty and I want to live with Him in Heaven. Jesus forgive me.🙏
Adultery is never right no matter what the situation. If you dont want to be married to your spouse have the decency to end it and then look for someone else. This makes me sad.
I saw this movie when I was a teenager, and I loved it. Thinking about it now that I am 50, and happily married for almost 20 years, it makes me sad. Beautiful music, beautiful scenery, but based on adultery.

I agree, so good 🤎
And cheating without telling.
I love this movie and this song. I watch this movie every year. So sweet.

Painfully beautiful - bittersweet memories...

How gorgeous is Alan Alda in this opening?

Still
I had to buy it on dvd. I imagine it’s such an esoteric topic it’s not worth streaming it. A special gem it is though.

Most annoying - due to a copyright dispute but it will be out of that soon.
Love this song and movie

Yes! And add it to a streaming channel 🥰

Alan was still on Mash and Ellen made this 4 years after the exorcist.
Esta película es la historia de los cachudos que nunca se conocieron y los amantes que nunca terminaron juntos.

Title of the song?
It's called "The Last Time I Felt Like This", sung by Johnny Mathis and Jane Oliver.
Where can I watch this?
You can't. I've tried finding it for years. It is not available for rent or purchase in any streaming format. I have no idea why.
Available on Ebay
They don't upload the whole movie anywhere
