More than just a story of a prolonged love affair, it's the complete retelling of the history that we Baby Boomers have shared and grew up with; all the while accompanied by the most beautiful nostalgic music.
Wow. I did NOT expect to be sitting here in tears at work. Somewhere in my memories still lies the feeling I had when I saw this so many years ago. I shed my tears without shame. It's part of the human experience I wouldn't trade for anything. Thank you for putting this together.
Funny how a song and a movie can take one back in time. My first husband and I got a babysitter and saw this on our "date night." I remember that so clearly when I hear this song. Oh, how I miss those days...
My favorite movie of all time! I've watched it so many times. Love the changes they went through together. So many smiles, laughs and tears and such a great ending as well. Two people who truly loved one another enough to not harm one another's other lives in the process. A great story of how one can fill another's voids in life and seemingly it has nothing to do with anyone else but the two of them. A most beautiful love story.
I love this movie so much. I’m in a same time next year relationship. Every year same time same place we meet. We love each other very much and the weekend is always too short but for several reasons we can’t be together. Maybe someday.
Thank you so much for creating this wonderful video compilation. "Same Time, Next Year" is one of my all-time favorite movies. In fact, my late wife and I had a tradition where we would, if possible watch it every Friday evening, and during the song (including the interludes that contain singing) we'd sing along with them. This tradition continued until she became so sick from cancer that she had to go to the hospital to live out her remaining seven weeks of life (2007). Thank you again for this beautiful memory.
Reminds me of someone dear in my life she had gotten married yet she was in a abusive marriage, finally after 20 yrs her childhood sweetheart walked back in her life he was married, yet he was in a loveless marriage, they rekindled their love yet he never got A divorce, they met each other twice a year in the same city for the next 50 yrs , he fell sick & died , heartbroken she found it hard to llive without him she died 6 yrs later, 😇🙏🏽 if there's life after death I pray that they're together 🤩genuine love never dies 😍
Fell in love with the movie and Ellen Burstyn and this beautiful, beautiful song plays over in my head so very often. I somehow think we have all felt these emotions and thought about how life turns out. Had I smiled and walked away ..... how different their lives would have been, our lives, should we stay or walk away, who knows?
I have always regarded this movie dear to my heart. I'm not still married to the man I fell in love to in the 60's but I have three children and many good memories. This movie was one of them.
Let's give a big shoutout to Johnny Mathis and Jane Olivor for such an outstanding job with the sound track. Hamlisch wrote this score with Mathis in mind to sing it. Great choice.
That was a perfect edit job of that movie. That was my generation, all those pics of the 60s and 70s, I witnessed it all. And I loved that movie ever since it came out. Still makes me cry, especially now while it is all crashing down around us. Glorious demolition…but still sad.
Can you tell me where can I watch the complete movie ?? I don´t know where can I find it and it is one of the movies that I saw in 1978, and I couldn´t see it again, thanks !
So many years ago but the memory is so vivid - it was the year I met the love of my life. We met when I walked into his office for an interview, we shook hands and forgot t😢o let go. I was lost in his eyes. Sounds corny, but it’s true. We were separated for 12 years - then I finally ran from an abusive marriage and we found one another again. We’ve never let go. We never married but our hearts are. After 45 years, we will never let go again. We remember every dear moment
My wife & I fell in love with this movie, Ellen Burstyn, & Alan Alda when in came out in 1978. We had been married 23 years. On our 30th Anniversary we celebrated by staying at the Heritage House where it was filmed. We fell in love with the area & stayed there 7 more times over the years. We're now in our 48th year & prepared for our visit to the area in November by watching the movie again. Thanks Alan & Ellen for keeping the love alive all these years. JB
I've loved this movie, from the 1st time I watched. Often wondered, how the other side might've faired, in a real-life situation. Fortunately, your annual excursions were with your wife.
John Burt Thanks for your email. I am glad you have been at that location celebrating your aniversary. I love this film as much as you. I would like to the same.
I'm so surprised that there still a lot of people who believe in love, and romance. the first time I watched it back in 1978 I was in living in Mexico and I went with my best friend we were 18!!! When I came to live to California I have to go to see that place, and I did it!!! And when I go to Mexico for vacation my best friend and I watch it again and again, and I have to confess My eyes start watering as soon I listen that song!!!!
I was only 13 when this movie came out. I fell in love with the theme song, and it remains to be one of my all-time favorite songs...my life has mirrored its lyrics.
I met my "George" in 1979, I was 19 years old and single. It all started with "would you like to dance'''.I got married twice over the years. I loved both of my husbands but this love, THIS was everything. I'll be 60 in August. We don't see each other anymore but we talk on the phone frequently. I am so grateful to have known such an incredible love like this. The memories of us are priceless. He too, watched me grow up.
Marvin Hamlisch was gone way too soon. This movie and the soundtrack will endure forever. Alan Alda proved his range in the scene where he discloses about the loss of his son in Vietnam. AND the birth scene was funny and serious at the same time.
Anyone who has been in love, thinking bout love or hoping 4 love needs 2 c this movie!Even if it's just 2 have a good cry🌟This is anyone's, everyone's fantasy n dream of love everlasting💘I saw this movie right after i heard it mentioned as a play in the movie Ordinary People (another gr8 film BTW) n was hooked plus who can resist Johnny Mathis' voice-YUMMY👍pls do urself a favor n ENJOY! BTW I was 17 then n just turned 55 so I've had a gr8 long time love affair w this pic🌸
I think we all cry - the montage transports you to the moment you first saw the film and who you were with - years pass but the movie and all the memories remain
Thanks for putting this together. I love the film and the interludes are a special part of it. When you watch your video, one can't help but think about the times and the people who have passed, for better or worse. Can't stress enough how much I appreciate you doing this!
The world may be different now, but looking back to times past and relationships we ALL used to have may help us deal with the 21st century :)... whatever part of the world u are, believe in peace :):) :)
what a brilliant montage of news clips and pictures throughout the years. Along with this beautiful song. It brought back a flood of memories....Thanks
Thanks 4 your reply.... very much appreciated.... to u and the ones that are close to u,keep safe, just come out of a relationship and this video makes me cry every time, dont know why I made this apart from really loving the film, I'm really glad I did,I hope it brings a few people around the world a little closer than it did before all this worldwide crap started,. .. :)
I enjoyed seeing all of the interludes in one place. This was a great movie. But this song is even better. I definitely think this is the best song that was ever nominated for the Best Song Oscar that didn't win. It should have won easily its year, but that's just my opinion.
Thank you! Since I wrote this, I thought more about exactly what I would say was the SECOND best song that was nominated for but did not win Best Song. I came up with "If We Were in Love" from "Yes! Georgio" from 1982. That was another song I felt was much better than the winner its year. Still I stick with "The Last Time I Felt Like This" as best non-winner. GH
Wow i firgot the historical pics . and this long version. Fantastic. I wish i could play on my flute. Didnt kniw it was a play with ellen burstyn. Remember her in Exorcist
One of my favorite and most enjoyable films that I watch every time it's on. You'd think I'd have it on DVD, but no. I may jump over and get it now that it's fresh in my memory. Ellen is beautiful and an outstanding actress, and the chemistry of her with Allan works so well. Great set decorations and these interludes are great to hear here. Thanks for the editing and video.
I only just found this clip, what a brilliant idea! Only the original film has the complete song, with all the lyrics, in its full glory. I especially love the verse from the 1972 montage ("Dreams make promises they can't keep..") -- a moving verse you won't hear on any other recording or film clip of this beautiful song. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks so much for this. The full video used to be available here, but it's not any more. I've watched this movie more than 50 times. I know all of the dialogue. It's my favorite movie of all times! I'm so glad that others love it too!
Dreams make promises they can’t keep They can swindle you while you sleep And the morning finds you wondering why It seems when we’re young in dreams we trust Maybe growing up is just Kissing certain dreams goodbye…
I thought the movie, which I truly loved, was more about the flaws that people have and continue to have--that the chances are not all that small that someone will come into your life and change it, enhance it, and make a mess of it...I thought it was a celebration of how what seems to be a huge mess is also a gift: that love comes from unexpected places. The movie honored monogamy, but understood how things are for so many. This was an enchanted tale, but many have fought this particular fight
Great adaptation of the music from the years shown in history. It's both a tear jerky and a comedy, and I always cry listening to the song. It brings back wonderful memories, from high school thru nursing school and I saw the movie when it came out in the theater.
I was 12 when I saw this.I remember the interludes between their rendezvouss they would show clips of events to denote the passage of time and how they'd be growing older as the movie moved on.I would never sit and watch a movie like this "too talky"to paraphrase Joe Flaherty from SCTV;but I cried like a baby because you knew they're probably would be a time they would have their rendezvous and one of them wouldn't be there.😪God Bless
I’m trying desperately to access this charming wonderful movie. It’s impossible to find anywhere and I miss it terribly. I remember watching it in the theatre with my husband. It was the best movie that we both decided it was a fave forever. He’s gone now but the memories of that evening continue to decorate my consciousness. It would just be a most delightful treat if the powers that be would release it. However, if wishes were horses beggars would ride. There is nary a one for any beggar list in the nights air. This is most unfortunate. His Maggie forever.
je suis un peu plus loin que ça va être plus facile de faire un tour du lac, mais je suis en train de me dire que je suis d'accord avec toi. j'ai un peu plus de temps pour faire une petite soirée de danse et de faire des choix
This might be the best romantic comedy of all time. Because I'm sure it was trying to be funny but instead just showed two very real people. Who both had noticeable flaws that were funny and looking for something different in their relationships.
I watched this when I was still very young. (I was 8 when this was shown in the movies) I could not understand at that time why they were in love and yet they have their own families to return to. I asked myself why can't they just be together. It's only when I learned about Right Love at The Wrong Time thing that I understand about it. I love the song. I memorized it then. Thank God for cassette tapes.
Thank-you for compiling the long track version from this movie. The main theme song is beautiful but it is nice to have this long version. I have been looking for this for some time.
Me too! Me too! I've looked so long that this is a dream come true. I would play the movie and skip to the interludes just to get the full version. Now it's at my fingertips!
I saw the movie on a flight from Chicago to London in 1979. Half The plane was in tears. One of those not great films, but tells a story. Love the song, should have won the Oscar but lost to The Last Dance Nd that's only because the academy was shamed for not nominating a single Bee Geez song from Saturday Night Fever the year before. Shame on you Academy.
I own a copy of this film. I have a very special friendship with someone who is married to someone else. I haven't seen him in 11 years, but I love and care for him still. I torment myself with Alan and Ellen. I got to see Marvin at an Idina Menzel concert. He was the best! Bernard Slade created all my favorite tv shows as I was growing up.
+Mary Horsley I had a long distance relationship like this once too. It lasted for over 10 years. He passed away a few years ago and my grief was profound. By leaving a message on his obit site I ended up corresponding with his wife and we are now friends!
The main point of this movie was over time, relationships of all types have adversity. This movie showed the best way to overcome it; Honesty and being open minded.
A friend of mine recommended this movie. After seeing the opening I am really looking forward to watching this movie as soon as I get the DVD from Amazon!
I know it's been sometime since this was posted but I'd like to thank the person who created the montage. This movie has always had a special place and meaning in my heart. But until I saw this particular montage I never realized this movie must have been, be it conscious or unconscious, inspiration for Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire". Thanks for doing this - it's very beautiful and helps me to see an old favorite in a new, better and different light.

This song was dedicated to Filipino and Indonesians who become friends and fall in love for more than 73 years since 1949 "Filipino and Indonesians are Friends Together, Love each Other" Two years later, Philippines and Indonesia is now 75 Years of Love and Friendship so we hope the two countries will stay for the future
My heart aches with the tender memories of my youth when I watch this. Life is good. Thanks so much.
Me too Pamela.
More than just a story of a prolonged love affair, it's the complete retelling of the history that we Baby Boomers have shared and grew up with; all the while accompanied by the most beautiful nostalgic music.
This montage still brings tears, so many years later.
Wow. I did NOT expect to be sitting here in tears at work.

Sorry for your loss. This was a nice tribute to your late wife. Two years later...I hope you've found love again.
thank you 💕 for your great comment, your wife is still with u waiting as an angel 😇 for u to rejoin her
@kennethcook8857: I'm so sorry for your loss.
Whenever I hear this song, tears run down my face.

Amen. Right to the spine.

I loved this movie growing up. The pictures in between the decade leading up to 1972 against Johnny Mathis’s voice still give me chills.
Never was adultery more beautiful.
this beautiful movie and moving song always reminds me of my parents love for each other - now together 67 years.
I have always regarded this movie dear to my heart. I'm not still married to the man I fell in love to in the 60's but I have three children and many good memories. This movie was one of them.
My fave romantic comedy of all time. Alda and Burstyn, perfection.
I was born in 1972, watched this in 1978. Great film.
Let's give a big shoutout to Johnny Mathis and Jane Olivor for such an outstanding job with the sound track. Hamlisch wrote this score with Mathis in mind to sing it. Great choice.

I had a love like this yes I was married but I met this man once a year for 16 years. When I first saw the movie I cried it was my life..

Thank you for this! I've been waiting for someone to do this for years.
This is some of the best music ever!
Worked on the theatre version. Weeks of set construction, and rehearsal. So this song is imprinted in my heart.
saw this when I was 15 and I bought the single of the song as well, I cried then and cried now 45 years later!

So amazing....many blessings to you for making and sharing this....
Dreams make promises they can’t keep
They can swindle you while you sleep
And the morning finds you wondering why
It seems when we’re young in dreams we trust
Maybe growing up is just
Kissing certain dreams goodbye…
still trusting in dreams :-)

As we get older, this becomes real!
Beautiful
Thank You for the entire song from this BRILLIANT film. The extra lyrics are pure genius.

The song clips bring back so many memories from childhood thru marriage .i was married in 1972.

I think a Gen X version of this wonderful story and film would be amazing. The late 90s though to a last reunion just after the pandemic.
A classic.

Thank you so much for this - beautiful music, beautiful movie, heartbreaking and delicious at the same time.
This might be the best romantic comedy of all time. Because I'm sure it was trying to be funny but instead just showed two very real people. Who both had noticeable flaws that were funny and looking for something different in their relationships.

Thank God for cassette tapes.
+Chet O. Pagatpatan I was 8 too back then! :-)
Marvin Hamlisch: "A life without music is like a body without a soul". Watching this movie yearly? since late 90's
i really love this movie...so much!!

Wow i was born in 1984 but I'm still in love
I own a copy of this film. I have a very special friendship with someone who is married to someone else. I haven't seen him in 11 years, but I love and care for him still. I torment myself with Alan and Ellen. I got to see Marvin at an Idina Menzel concert. He was the best! Bernard Slade created all my favorite tv shows as I was growing up.
+Mary Horsley I had a long distance relationship like this once too. It lasted for over 10 years. He passed away a few years ago and my grief was profound. By leaving a message on his obit site I ended up corresponding with his wife and we are now friends!
Hello ma'am i really like the song. And I really like to watch the movie but I can't find in CZcams.
My all time favourite movie & song
The main point of this movie was over time, relationships of all types have adversity. This movie showed the best way to overcome it; Honesty and being open minded.
You left out the serial adultery.
A friend of mine recommended this movie. After seeing the opening I am really looking forward to watching this movie as soon as I get the DVD from Amazon!
Thanks for uploading - I really enjoyed this movie. Ellen Burstyn is fabulous!!

Thank you so much for making this.
The lyrics that don't make it on the final song are nothing less than touching.
esta película es inolvidable... y esta canción... uf! demasiada sensibilidad
This song was dedicated to Filipino and Indonesians who become friends and fall in love for more than 73 years since 1949 "Filipino and Indonesians are Friends Together, Love each Other"
Two years later, Philippines and Indonesia is now 75 Years of Love and Friendship so we hope the two countries will stay for the future
vi la pelicula hace años. No me he olvidado nunca.
