This is awesome !!!!
Thanks, it's been a fun project. More upgrades soon!
yall should send him one of those crazy 1L v twins
That's a great idea! LOL

I've done some throttle adjustment and already got 40 mph since I made this video, stay tuned, it'll get faster from here.
Did you know you can make a clutch using a grinding disk...
Sounds aggressive/effective, please do tell
Don’t rev over 5,000 rpm or you might blow up the flywheel
I like the idea of doing it in stages and would really like to see what a vanguard 23 hp would do. Then maybe a vanguard 29 hp. New sub.
Also you might want to upgrade to a variable speed clutch.
This is super interesting. Right up my alley. I once put a 3.5hp Briggs push mower engine on a riding tractor. Low hp engines can move quite a bit of weight on flat ground. The issue is the very second you attempt to go up any type of hill. Especially from a stand still.
Very cool!
Wow just wow, congrats man your willingness in life had officially made you a legend in my mind!
Wow, that's quite a compliment. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
Love the little truck series and your backyard engineering keep it up and god bless
Thank you!
Thanks Chris and family from Key farm.
Central California watching.
We appreciate you, thanks for watching!
Not going to lie I'm impressed with what it does, it makes me wonder how a 670 v twin predator with a stage 2 or 3 would do. Great job.
Thanks, I'm not done with it yet, I'm not sure where it will end up.
that would be freaking awesome
I bought a predator 670 👍
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm I hope you have a video planned
Fan. Tastic. Looking forward to the next update!
Thanks 👍😁
Great little project. Nice job!!!
Thanks!
Keep the great content up!👑👍
I plan to, thanks for watching
What have I stumbled upon?!? (Love it!!!)
You found an awesome channel full of cool stuff. LOL, thanks for watching.
You lift my spirit sir to by the duremax as my first engine 🙏
Cool they're pretty good engine for the price I think.
That thing is bad ass I love these things you put together with these predator motors that is just cool
Thanks, I appreciate it
Excellent video and excellent build!!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Dude, this is freaking cool! I love it and I want one myself
😁 thanks, it's been a lot of fun to build and see how different engines perform
Thanks for the update...I'm putting a 19.5 b&s 2cyl. In a rx8
That's gonna be fun! Thanks for watching
This is exciting, love this small engine truck stuff, subd, thanks for sharing, very cool
Hey, thanks for watching, I'm getting ready to do the Predator 670cc video this weekend.
Actually been wanting to duromax swap my truck for a while. Definitely gonna go through with it after watching this video
Awesome, glad you liked the video!
Fantastique ! merci pour ce bon moment 👍😍
Cool , thanks for watching
Hilarious project! I love it!
Thanks, I appreciate you watching.
You're one cool man. Thank you for sharing this with us. I subscribed. God bless.
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I'm not that cool once you get to know me 🤪. Thanks for watching
Great progress! Keep to the simple centrifugal clutch, there’s enough cvt clutch videos out there. If you are at the limit of the clutch you can move the clutch to a jack shaft instead of the crankshaft, doing this you can use two (or more) clutches sharing the load. If you have room under the hood to fit it all in.
I have thought about a jackshaft with multiple clutch. This new one is doing pretty well.
I feel like if you lived in somewhere like Saskatchewan, where there isn’t a single hill, this would be a perfect little go to town for groceries truck
Hahaha, I grew up in Indiana where it's pretty flat. Thanks for watching.
That's crazy! I love it!
Thanks
Great video. Not bad for a stock 440cc duromax. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm I have a question for you. For moving off on hills will the upgraded clutch be able to handle it? Or do you have to put a torque converter for it?
Part of the problem in this video ended up being that the throttle wasn't opening all the way, once I get the heavier duty clutch and I can now the RPMs up, I think it'll do pretty well. We'll see.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm cant wait!
With some performance parts from go power sports. It should move good!
pure GENIUS!! JUST FREAKING AWESOME!!
Thanks, it's been a fun project.
Holy crap.
Nice job. At first I didn't know what I was looking at. Lol
Thanks, glad you liked it
I think cars and cameras would love this idea
I've seen them build some really cool stuff.
Awesome video
Thanks
Nice Chris, some one suggested a torque converter, maybe you could use one from a snow mobile, I would think that would be a cheaper way to go.Have a good holiday
Thanks Bruce, I'll look into it. I may try a disengaging direct drive, like a front tine tiller, where a spring loaded idler is attached to the clutch pedal.
Nice setup Chris I was thinking about building something similar to this watching from north Alabama 👍
I'm in north Alabama as well, Morgan County
Awesome! I love it!
Thank you, it's a lot of fun.
Just helping the channel, keep it up Chris!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Keep up the good job
Thanks
i cant wait to see the good clutch
It's pretty cool.
czcams.com/video/ARaNUrcosOk/video.html
Back in the sixty’s we used to make these but use a belt drive with a belt clutch and they would really cruise.
My newest version is belt driven, but not a tension clutch, it's still centrifugal.
This is my favorite series
Thanks, I appreciate it.
great work buddy, that truck moves pretty well now considering all things, im sure a bigger clutch will do it a world a difference, still a rockin lil truck though
Thanks, I adjusted the throttle some and got it to hit 40 mph. I appreciate you taking time to comment 👍.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm you got it to 40mph with the 40 tooth sproket and the same old clutch?
I did, yesterday I rebuilt the throttle linkage, drive it about 4 miles and when I got back I could hold my hand on the cheap clutch, it was hot, but not crazy hot.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm thats great...will you be able to do a mpg test on the truck when you get the upgraded clutch?
I do have a title for the truck, so, in time I hope to get a license plate and insurance so I can drive it around a bit to advertise the channel. So what I'm saying is, I hope so at some point.
This is dope . I need to make a farm truck like this.
Thanks, it's pretty cool. Thanks for watching .
I still love it keep it up
Thank you, I appreciate it.
unREAL this is amazing
I feel the same way, my MG roadster with the 18 horse feels like a real car LOL.
Find a spot to also have an electric start 7 hp duromax (or reuse one of the previous motors) and you can add a power steering pump, vacuum pump for brakes, alternator, supercharger for the 440 motor... hydraulic pump, any number of things.
Also, from watching another youtube channel, Robot Cantina, he used a CVT between the motor and original transmission. I think keeping these small motors spun up will help vs only riding up and down the gears of the regular transmission. You'll lose some efficiency, but not much compared to the clutch and chain setup you're already running.
Fun stuff, and subscribed.
Thanks
That alone is pretty impressive
Thanks, I appreciate it.
I can't wait to see a v twin and mabe try a snowmobiling like belt drive
It's gonna be awesome
Very good project, I was thinking to get ride of vibrations, make your subframe aka like front wheel drive cars rubber mounted, so your gearbox and sub-frame are all mounted to it. Use the original engine mounts, get what I mean, so your sub-frame bolts to your bell housing, and your old OEM engine mounts.
I think that could help, thanks for watching!
Happy Thanksgiving sir. Good job. I still have my four wheel electric scooter that looks like a police car. It needs to go a lot faster. Just putting it out there for you
LOL, thanks for watching.
Impressive, very based. Now let's see the towing capacity
Check this out.

Robot Cantina channel has done some interesting swaps.
I've seen some of their 212 stuff. Thanks for watching.
Amazing 👍
Thanks, I think so too. I appreciate you watching.
Duramax 999cc 35hp next, that would be sick!!
I asked for them to send me one. LOL
Now we need a range test of half gallon of fuel. Love this project
I totally agree.
Outstanding!
Addendum....
Interesting how America has come the full circle, from Detroit muscle to small, considering engines that are even smaller than auto engines offered in post war France & italy....!
Thanks
Sweet, do it with a 440 snowmobile engine next
The hood scoop made me laugh!
Mission accomplished 😂. Thanks for watching.
I bet its more reliable than any pickup truck made since 2009
Hahaha, maybe 🤔. Thanks for watching.
i love stuff like this
Cool, I do a lot of stuff like this. Look around on the channel, you'll probably see other projects you like. Thanks for watching!
In my old 99 Tacoma 4x4 I would shift into low range shift 1,2,3, shift from low to high and then hit first gear. I would "assume" any truck with an actual lever to shift from low to high would work. All that was mentioned in the interest of gearing and more top speed because you've just changed your 5 speed to an 8 speed.
Hopefully one day I will have a truck with a high and low range to try that.
I daydream about project like these and also daydream about adding magnetron ignition to all the 80s-90s and early 2000s vehicles with electronic/fake distributors, to get them going again. Too often are they sold with mint body/interior and drivetrain, all to be given up on because of an igntion they couldnt figure out, even after replacing it all.
Cool
Wicked cool!!
Thanks! I appreciate it
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm I appreciate your vidyas, you inspire me to try my own repower projects. God bless
Awesome, thanks for watching!
Just a man living his best life😂
LOL , I'm trying
Awesome
Thanks
Dude I love this video. I'm just surprised that those engines can handle the truck weight
It's pretty amazing to me, I think that's why I enjoy building this stuff
I wonder how well a comet drive or snow mobile clutch might work. Awesome video.
A torque converter for this kind of power is expensive but I imagine it would work great.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm China knock off from eBay. $59-$100 or a few hundred for a real one.
Duromax has that 999cc vtwin now. It would probably make this a decent little daily driver!
Unfortunately it's $2,000 for that I could put in a vortec engine out of a Tahoe
@ChrisfromKeyfarm great point! Would be a cool tinker though. I'm getting ready to 5.3 swap my 90' chevy pickup.
Cool
Me and my sister together also have 50 acres, will work great, nice.
Thanks, it would nice to have a utility truck on that amount of land
Just a suggestion if you had the belt cvt like a snowmobile belt slip clutch and secondary then on the secondary shaft as a jack shaft to go to the bottom you would have serios power the whole way threw
Probably so
One question : Once you get the RPM up enough that the clutch locks up and gives you direct drive to the transmission, how do you get the clutch to release to shift gears? Even though you let off the gas, the inertia of the vehicle is now pushing you at the RPM required to keep the clutch locked up.
You can shift it even if it stays engaged.
I really enjoy your videos, and I have subscribed to your channel. How about adding parts list. I would love to do a similar repower job on a small truck with a blown engine. What brand/model clutch to you end up using?
Most of the parts I use come from eBay and the links are always changing but I'll help any way I can. This is the current clutch

Ya this all looks fine on level ground, like you're doing in this video, but what about doing some hill climbing with that set up, and let's see how well it performs, and how good the fuel economy is, I think you might be able to squeeze more performance out of a Twin Cylinder 20 + HP, coupled to the vehicle's Torque converter and trans mission, that way you could get the benefit of the transmission gearing, and better performance, and fuel economy !
Not a hill, but here it is pulling my tractor.
czcams.com/video/DzKtmc2Msqs/video.html
I want to take a S-10 5 speed and put a 56 hp KDI turbo diesel in it someday. (Kohler) It comes with an intercooler and radiator. I use them on my firewood processors. Lotsa power ! Guessing it is equal to a 80 hp gas engine at least.
Cool
I'm still waiting for the day you put the 670 v twin in
Gear ratios matter and number of gears is where it’s at.
👍
Will it work with a 40 series torque converter instead of a clutch? Just curious.
It definitely would, I'm just not a fan of torque converters in this application.
Sweet
Thanks. I appreciate you watching.
That's impressive.
What is the gear ratio you're running in the Toyota differential?
I'm not sure
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm stock ratio would likely be 4:11
Please provide links to where you are getting your large sprockets, keyed 1 inch shafts, chain, pillow block bearings, and clutches from.
Inquiring minds would love to know
Thank you!
99% of all my parts come from eBay. Unfortunately the links tend to expire, so in the video I try to say what it is, so an ebay search for whatever I'm talking about and you should be able to find it. I hope that helps.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm Thank You!
I got a 24hp 2 cylinder yanmar water cooled diesel motor I’m thinking about putting in the 90’ ford ranger wonder how fast I’ll go?
I think you could get 50 mph and still have some low end power . Thanks for watching.
I was told there is no flywheel side case bearing in that engine, I wonder how many hours it will run total?
I don't know , there's a lot of them out there people are working them pretty hard. How would it operate without a bearing on each side? There are many videos where people tear them down, that would tell you for sure. Thanks for watching
you should definitely consider a torque converter, we put one on my big go-kart and it went from having no take off torque to doing a burnout if you floor it from a standstill, and it also gave us more top end
Awesome, I'm thinking about it. Thanks for watching.
Hey Chris, would a torque converter work on it??? Happy Thanksgiving........The Bearded Guy
Hey, absolutely a torque converter would probably work great, the one it needs is $5-600.00 , so that's pretty much over the budget, but they do make a cheap 40 series for much cheaper and I may try that. Thanks for commenting and Happy Thanksgiving.
I’m here because Duromax is close enough to Duramax 😂
Hahaha, I'll take it. Look around on the channel, I've got some interesting stuff. B t w that one letter difference= a lot of HP.🤣
Just for a reference point, the /my 1957 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE ,had a 1200 cc (40 or 50 hp?),the vw bug engine can be modified up to 1800 cc!! my 57 vw coud do just over 60 mph, maybe a bit more closer to 70 maybe 76 wind a wind pushing it!
Cool
👍
A torque convert setup would really help out you’ll have way more low end power an more top end also with a good cvt setup
I'm not really a fan of torque converters, I have a couple, but I don't think they are as reliable as a clutch
Thanks for getting back with me,we live 9 miles out on gravel, always got to run back to town for something, that sucker would be great for that, and I already got most the stuff, it's a 88 full size Chevy four wheel drive you think it be to big? If it don't pull it I can always trade for a smaller truck.but do you think it will, ive thought of this before, but was thinking to big, that was pretty simple.and I got a friend that owns a machine shop.
You could gear it down to say 30 mph if it's to heavy to try and go any faster.
Imagine with a 670cc v-twin Lot of torque... And of cource a v-twin need Full exaust sounds insane
I have a new 670 in the shop! Keep watching!
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm Nicee...put a 2x1 exaust sounds owesome.. i wish i can buy a v-twin for a kart project hehe in Brazil but this engine is expensive 🥲
It's pretty expensive here as well, but the channel had a good month last month, thanks to people like you watching and commenting, also I ended up getting it 30% off that helped.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm Nice 👏👏
I'm wanting to do something very similar. What is your ideal clutch?
I like you having the real world experience so I can benefit from it.
Thanks
This is the clutch I'm running in the latest truck video.
www.ebay.com/itm/401772473371?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=52kb4HqNRia&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=07vVd76cTIS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Hey man, can you tell me if there is a way to connect this engine directly in the rear differential using the clutch? I was just wondering that so you can add another engine like this one in the rear of your pickup truck
Because this style driveshaft bolts to the rear pinion gear you could put a sprocket in between and do it that way
Thanks man! I will try doing this
35 mph makes a good city cruser
If you've seen one you've seen them all. There's several CZcams videos about putting these engines in automobiles but I've never seen one where it became a street legal daily driver or taken on a road trip. I think it's an awesome video but as I said before there's several videos out there similar to this. Check out Robot Cantina. I want to see a Duromax or Predator powered Daily driven automobile that is also driven on road trips and then I'll be impressed.
Well that's kind of a downer comment if I get a license plate and insurance and drive it down to the Dollar general you'll be impressed?
I don't think many single cylinder cars or trucks are going to be driven on road trips.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm doesn't have to be single cylinder but if it was predator powered that would be awesome and daily driven and taken on road trips.
A Snowmobile drivetrain linked to your Input Shaft would Really move the truck... people are selling older ones alot, and are usually cheap. @ Junkyard Digs has a RX7 that's powered with a Snowmobile engine and that thing Hauls the Mail 🤠✌❤🙏
That's awesome ,thank you for the information, however in Alabama not many snowmobiles. I'd probably have to pay shipping from elsewhere 😅.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm 😁 Yeah it might be tough finding one down there. I am from Northern Indiana. Maybe a Future project ✌🙏 Merry Christmas
Was going to say the same thing. You just need a cvt transmission. Lots of diff ATVs use them. 4wheelers etc.
@@ChrisfromKeyfarm cvt transmission is what your looking for. Not exclusively used in snowmobiles. You can find one.
@Keyfarm have you considered running a CVT style clutch for this? it will give you some low end torque on take-off while also giving a higher top end speed. they are used widely on mopeds and "automatic" style scooters on the road. some of these scooters can achieve 70+ mph on the freeway!
I have considered it, thanks for commenting
How about a turbo next?🙂
I know you love Predator 212 in everything , bu4 sometimes you have to go bigger or go a different way
Hahaha, your not wrong!
I like what you did with this. I think weight reduction would help a lot.
It has, and I could remove more weight if I didn't want a full cab
You could totally get away with hiding a toolbox or 2 under the hood, that'd be handy so you can have your entire bed space if you ever put one on...
There is a lot of room under there for sure! Thanks for watching.
Have you thought the try a torque converter clutch on this set up. Probably get more gitty up and more top end per gear shift
The torque converter for this kind of power is very expensive but I am considering it.
I’d really like to see a 670cc predator V twin put in
Me too, unfortunately they have went to $1000.00 😓 . Currently that is over budget but if enough people watch these videos, that could change. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Now that is fast, maybe you could install a supercharger?
Hmmm, I suppose it's possible 😅
How would a comet belt drive clutch system do on this set up? They will take a lot more power than a centrifugal
It could help, I may try one in the future. Thanks for watching.
Wonder how it would run if you swapped out that chain for a motorcycle powerband.
🤔
WOW I've really wanted to see this so badly. Awesome video, gives me hope for a Dodge Dakota I have. Thanks for sharing. No
Cool, thanks for watching.
