The worst part about Rockstar is that her fans (not Blinks but mainly Lilies) try to implement meaning in the lyrics where there is not any. It's just for the rhyme scheme, there is not a particular meaning. I am a Blink and honestly, this is the worst song to have come out from the girls.

The only meaningful line is "can you teach me jpnese, i say hai hai" and you can interpret different ways.
      1. Saying it because most western people think Asia is Japan and China.
      2. Saying it because one of her "rivals" is from Japan (Momo).

@@misskata8511 this is absolutely completely pulled out of nowhere i can guarantee you lisa nor her songwriters were thinking that hard about it. it's also a lyric that would make anyone who doesn't know lisa think she's japanese or at least fluent in japanese, neither of which are true. it was used because "hai hai" rhymes with "hype hype".
this is the kind of thing that i would buy if it were coming from someone who actually has a history of releasing music with a deeper meaning. i'm all for overanalyzing and you can absolutely take whatever you want from this song regardless of whether it was intended or not. but you need to know when to stop giving people credit they don't deserve. lisa has never shown us she has any artistic intent in the first place. if she does, she needs to release music that makes that clear.

THANK YOU for talking about lisa's rockstar. I'm not going to sit here saying it was bad when it all just comes down to your own personal taste but the lyrics were... kind of awful. yes, you can argue that not all songs have to have lyrics or have some heroic meaning behind them, which is true, music is just another form of art. but some people DO value lyrics more than the actual beat or music, like my dad, and lyrics DO matter, not in all songs but they do. also, just because a song is centered around SOUNDING good doesn't make the lyrics any better. the only meaningful lyric in the song was 'lisa, can you teach me Japanese?' which COULD be talking about Asian stereotypes but I don't think that was confirmed, it could just be for rhyme scheme. and even if it was talking abt Asian stereotypes it doesn't excuse the rest of the song lyrics. they're all talking abt being a rockstar, being rich, in certain instances being pretty, and being the best. i'm not saying u can't write abt things like this, but if u look at her old songs like money and lalisa, the meaning hasn't changed at all, which I find interesting because money and lalisa weren't written by Lisa herself but rockstar was. like you stated, YG definitely hadn't left her entirely, they're bound together in some way. hopefully she tries something new but that's her choice. (P.S. NO HATE TO LISA! I have nothing against her and wish her the best in her solo career. this is just my opinion! feel free to disagree but don't force ur opinions onto me or be rude abt it. srry for the long paragraph)

If Lisa wrote the lyrics for Rockstar, then I understand why YG didn't let her write lyrics for BP. The lyrics will always matter. The medoly/beat matter too but the sometimes the lyrics are the thing that tells you the vibe of the song like Likey for ex. The beat is happy but the lyrics talk about social medias. The beat and the lyrics matter but the lyrics matter more.

    Okay here we go:
    1) I agree, and it KILLS me because their old music was so good. I remember watching the mv and being like "that's it?". I feel like Back 2 Luv should've been the title track, but even that isn't really up to par with their old stuff. Slay wasn't the best song ever but at least it kind of fit in with the rest of their discography. Zombie just feels so out of place. It sounds like a Pixy song, but a bit more empty ( No hate to the girls, they performed it really well).
    2) I honestly kinda liked Rockstar, but it was still kind of underwhelming. My two main problems are the length of the song and the lyrics. It's a debut SINGLE and you can't even get it over 3 minutes. The lyrics make no real sense. The whole song feels like LALISA 2.0; it's catchy, but not amazing.
    3) I agree SO MUCH with this. I understand that an idol "over-performing" can be distracting if the rest of the group has visibly less energy, but the entirety of BM have close to the same level of energy so it still feels cohesive. Besides, their job was to be entertaining and they did that, why are yall complaining?
    4) I'm kind of split on this one. I do agree with the argument that in some cases some members just do better with certain lines so they should sing them. There have also been many cases where members have asked for less lines, so I feel like it's unfair for fans to go as far as they do by calling it "mistreatment". However, in some cases a member barely gets lines in any of their comebacks (I'm so sorry Bahiyyih 😭). I feel like it's a little unfair to those members since they tend to get pushed to the back. Long story short, if a member doesn't get a lot of lines once it's fine, but it's not fair if it happens almost every comeback.
    5) I agree. Aespa is the definition of a group that instead of calling criticism "hate", they work to get better. There work is now paying off in their growth and they deserve it so much

@@amandahallow1114 she hasn't ever written lyrics for her own songs or blackpink songs maybe she doesn't have the aptitude for it or maybe she wasn't given the opportunity. Not everyone can write, compose, produce everything on their own. She's a singer/rapper/dancer and there's nothing wrong with it most kpop idols don't write their own songs as well. If she wants to dabble in writing now she can as she's not in yg anymore but it'll take time. No one can turn into a lyricist overnight. Or maybe she doesn't want to? I think that's a plausible reason as well. I think many people thought her style of songs was imposed by yg so once she starts her own company she'll break out of the image imposed by yg but maybe it's what she likes? I personally loved Golden Hour. I like how different but reminiscent it feels to early Ateez but with a more experimental approach. I think many peoples perception of the album is coming from the promotion of it rather than the music itself because sonically it’s not very off from what Ateez has done previously, just with more experimental sounds.
I understand feeling like it’s underwhelming but I never expected this comeback to have the same energy and grandiose as Guerrilla or Bouncy. I think people had set a certain expectation in their head of how they felt it was supposed to be. I do feel like the promotion and build up lacked in giving the proper understanding of how this album would be like.
And it actually does connect back to their lore! They are currently back in World A where sounds, color, art, and emotion are not outlawed. Therefore we’re going to hear many diverse sounds that represents the diversity of life itself. Songs such as Work and Blind lean heavy into the hiphop/latin sound, while Shaboom is quite literally a mixture of sounds that people would never think to associate together. The Golden Hour trilogy will most likely consist of many different sounds combined and used as a way to express the many unique moments life has to offer, ie, their Golden Hours.

@@slavakaripova2172 This isn’t necessarily true when ATEEZ are known for changing up their concept. Bouncy and Crazy form didn’t even have the same concepts either. Ateez has released songs like Eternal sunshine, Turbulence, Inception, Celebrate, ect that are not as hype or heavy as Bouncy + Crazy form. That’s why they’ve garnered the fanbase that they have bc of how diverse their music is while being able to explore different sounds.
I feel like fans who came after Guerrilla era and or Bouncy era only expect heavy and in your face material from Ateez which is fine if that’s your preference but they aren’t always going to produce the same sounds and will constantly explore different genres. Every song may not be your cup of tea and that’s okay! However, they are willing to experiment and find new ways to use sounds, and that’s always been their forte.

I have nothing in particular to say about the other points but gurl it was buckwild to talk about line distribution like that and making the choice to have IVE of all ppl playing in the background then even bringing them up within a general lament that can be summed up as "what if the member (of whichever group) just aren't that good so they don't get much lines" when the crux of the uproar about line distribution for IVE in particular centers especially around LIZ who is one of the best and most promising vocalists of her gen (not exaggerating, she's that good) constantly getting robbed off of doing her literal JOB.
It's so frustrating cause she's hands down singing better than all of her members combined, by far, and then some than other groups even and it's been so painfully obvious she gets little lines that even folks who causally listen to them would notice it. Why put such a good singer in a group and then not utilise the talent? It's a valid complaint.
Other than that I am not too concerned with line distribution if the member is vocally weak as long as they aren't silenced completely bc I for example like exo and you won't ever catch me complain when Sehun has a bit less of lines bc he simply isn't the strongest vocally, it just is what it is but he's treated way better when before he would say nothing or 3 words.
Just like in IVE it is fine if- I was gonna say my bias but they're one of those bands where I like everyone equally-anyway if vocally less strong members don't get lines, that's cool, it's FINE. But line distribution IS a big deal when the idol in question is literally the best vocalist in the group and most of the singing is handed to the other members.
I'm not saying vocal performance is the only important thing, just that an amazing vocal performance can add so much value and life to a song as well and yet at the same time, I couldn't imagine certain lines being sung by LIZ regardless of how technically better she is bc I simply enjoyed the way Rei or Gaeul would sing their parts, but there has to be a BALANCE. I wished you would've put more nuance in that part bc it's a big difference if a bad vocalist gets no parts vs a very good vocalist. It's not even about selfish reasons like "I need to hear my bias sing" but the art itself. Kpop is already soulless enough as it is and they have a chronic issue with creativity and technicality in regards to vocal performance (adlibs, harmonies, PROPER harmonies, runs etc) that a lot of songs tend to feel flat and it's why it's all the more satisfying when a song is actually interesting in a technical aspect.
I didn't even mean to rant that much but the other day I saw ole girl sing her thing and it saddened me bc you could tell she revels in it. Ik some idols are glad when they don't have too much lines since they work sm but when you can feel the idol WANTS to sing, for gods sake their companies need to fucking LET em. Kpop companies are notorious for wasting talent bc they only care about the new hottest thing once they debuted their other and dgaf about nurturing who they debuted after that and those idols really suffered to get where they are it shouldn't be in vain.

    AND YES, SAY IT LOUDER.
I know we all have tastes in different things, but we all can see when something just don't make sense at all?
I mean, I got really excited for them (blackpink) finally getting to do their own songs in their solos, but then I see Lisa's rockstar. IT'S JUST THE SAME THING.
I don't want y'all saying "but that's blackpink concept" when bp concept isn't those mid ass songs at all?? Whistle, boombayah, playing with fire, As if it's your last, really, forever young, kiss and makeup were the ACTUAL blackpink, and those songs were def not mid and don't have pointless lyrics.
I'm a blink since their debut, they were my second kpop group (my first was Red Velvet), and I always get sad when I remember how they're doing in this days.
Say anything you want, but blackpink did changed. Their songs, the way they perform at stage...
Their current songs aren't bad, but THEY'RE ALSO NOT GOOD.
Rockstar was honestly disappointing, as I said, I got happy that they got a solo contract outside YG, but rockstar is the same thing as Lalisa: repetitive song, normal dance break, meaningless lyrics...
AND WHAT GETS ME SICK ARE THOSE "BLINKS" THAT JUST LIKE ANYTHING THEY DO. Yes, I'm a blink, but no, I won't shut up and listen while giggling or fangirling to THIS thing.

I know you can write a song for 1 hour because I have done it. It was not the best song tho. I think Lisa's team wrote it for like 1 hour or less because what?! The only cool thing were the pre-chorus and the bridge. I don't think Beyonce is something special but yeah, Lisa can be close to Beyonce only if we talk about dance which reminds me of the mediocre choreo of Rockstar. They should at least give her something in her category.

Hard agree on the line distribution. For Ateez in particular, I took their last 25 songs minus unit tracks, from Siren to Lets get Together, and using line distribution placement of 1 through 8 averaged their place, and 6 members were within a 1.5 rank of each other from 4.48-5.92. Anyways, point being, the member with the lowest average placement in line distribution for almost the last 2 years is Mingi, but his fans arent up in arms about it. people just need their member to be the victim so they can champion how great they are.

For the first opinion, I do not agree with the YG x BP fault for 8 songs in a album. That's their strategy, their move that works with us, their fans. Just because other groups do the same (it is mainly female btw - look into NJ, LS, Red Velvet, Twice, G-idle discographies) does not mean that they will succeed the same way which is obvious. Plus, I don't mind short albums. I prefer eras - for example two eras within a year with two albums of 8 songs for example. Because idols, especially from the big 3, are not allowed to talk about themselves - their beliefs, love life, etc., so I want different eras with define images and define music for each - so less songs is not a problem.

Single Albums aren't YG s idea but Kpops. I know why you would think, why YG not releasing music contributes to it but back in the old days producing Kpop was expensive to a degree that it wasnt done during hard times until the comunity starten to produce single and mini albums, which were treated like full albums (with tours and merch)
Honesty a single album is a very kpop think to do and contributes to the succes oft kpop (back than and even now)

I love Lisa but her music pretty mediocre considering how talented she is and the access she has to great music producers and such and this was her time to shine but she kinda dropped the ball, blackpink in general music has been pretty subpar and forgettable, their kinda overrated if you match their music to their success, it doesn’t add it and they seem like a group more popular cause of hype than how good their music has been throughout the years, yes their talented but their talent has not accounted for their success its more so hype and riding off that hype and your right kpop fans don’t seem to know what they want and just like to find things to complain about that’s why idols should just do them and do their best and not focus so much on what wishy washy fans want as long as their not being disrespectful or offensive, I never cared about line distribution cause those that gonna shine gonna shine and stand out regardless, winter stage presence is fine, I like her icy cold vibe onstage hence the name, there’s something drawing people to her fancams over and over again and it ain’t just hate watching otherwise they’d just stop watching her fancams since they find her so “robotic” if you don’t like it focus your attention on a member that appeals to you instead of constantly complaining about the ones that don’t

I liked Rockstar, it felt refreshing. Some people need to understand that not all songs need to have a deep meaning, some are just meant to be catchy. Ok ~OPINION DUMP~
Personally I LOVED Rockstar call me biased. Lisa didn't play it safe at all, she could've been between vocal kpop performance and full hyperpop and given average of nothing. But she dared and went the cyberpunk route which was PERFECT This gave be Brat By Charlie XCX vibes (it's good 👀) and cyberpunk and I LOVED IT the chorus was finally complete and not just catchy. The verses were cool. People hate autotube, but lisa used it in the BEST way, the rap was sick and the final beat synth fusion was everything. In my opinion i loves this song. Lalisa felt missing yet it felt like 10 songs, this feels like a COMPLETE good good song, though a bit short
