    Fantastic singer, how sad to hear what a difficult life she had. And then also dying that young of heart failure...

    Very privileged to have heard her live. A glorious voice and she sang some challenging repertoire such as Schoenberg and Berg with great distinction.

    I´m a huge fan of the adorable Margaret Price, very nice portrait. I think her elegiac and silvery rounded voice is perfectly suited for Mahler and Schumann, there are unmatched recordings. She was a great artist with taste and a very rare and precious voice. Thanks for the posting :o)

    This is a really remarkable interview.
    She says that she was in the chorus (the Ambrosian Singers) for the famous EMI recording of the Anna Bolena mad scene with Maria Callas, and the Boult/Sutherland 'Messiah'!!

    Extremely moving to discover her open heart and extraordinary person. One of the most extraordinary soprano voices ever.

    The Welsh lullaby she sings at 7:29 translates as:
    "It is me who nurses the baby,
    It is me who rocks the cradle;
    It is me who hums and hums
    Humming all the while;
    He cried this morning
    from midnight till three;
    I am the one who loses sleep
    The care is all upon me."

    How lovely to see the old Trinity College Of Music building. It was here I was examined for my Fellowship diploma in singing. The college is now in fine buildings at Greenwich, South East London. Margaret Price was a very great artist. One of the most beautiful voices of her time. Among the many other famous sopranos to attend Trinity was Heather Harper, but she came as a Conducting student initially.

    Got to hear one of her appearances in the United States. Such a perfect voice. I remember it was right after Arleen Auger died and she seemed so sad. I believe that I read somewhere that they were friends.

    I discovered Margaret Price through her recording of Schubert songs (Orfeo CD) in the late 1980s, started listening to just about everything she recorded, and got to hear her live once, in the Verdi Requiem in Chicago, around 1990. It's a bit misleading to begin the documentary with an extended excerpt from her recording of Isolde, as that role is so unrepresentative of her repertoire, and she was such an unusual choice (on Kleiber's part) for the role. It is my understanding that she never performed it in front of an audience. Mozart, Verdi, and German Lied (including Mahler and Strauss)--that was where she established her greatness.

      Bryn Terfel is more famous, Gwyneth Jones was a tremendous performer, Stuart Burrows had a beautiful smooth voice, Geraint Evans was fine, but Margaret Price had the best Welsh voice.

      Does that mean you are related to Margaret Price? Your Dad is her Cousin? I can‘t believe it. That‘s great….Have you known her personally?
