- This goes through the process of showing you haw to change the fluid on a 2006 Ford Ranger. This will probably be the same for most Ranger models with a M5OD series manual transmission
Mercon V Transmission fluid is the recommendation.

6:35-6:50 is what is most important and thank you for explaining that perfectly I’ve seen many videos where they don’t let the excess fluid drain out and just put the plug back in which means they over filled the transmission and they are now operating an automobile with an overfilled transmission
Changed mine two days ago. Took the four philips screws holding the shifter boot and rubber cover and used a tube and funnel and filled it through the cab.
Yes!!! Been looking for a video like this for a long time. Thank you so much man
Thanks for posting this video, the fluid change was quick and easy. I appreciate your time to make the vid.
For those 4x4 owners it’s best to fill with new oil and drive for about 50~100 klms and drain again if the oil was really dirty and this really makes a differences when using in low range
This is a great video, nice and clear. Thanks for explaining each step as you went through the process of changing the transmission fluid, thanks taking your time for posting !
I thought u were farting at first but realized it must be the pump lol
Great video!
Mine's a 2004 with the 4.0 V6 and the FX4 package and the drains are in the exact same spot. It is a 24mm socket but you didn't mention the crush washers. Since I didn't have any, I just reused them. I used my torque wrench and just tightened them to 25Lbs which isn't crazy tight and about average for oil drain plugs. The magnet on mine was coated with shavings just like yours.
Both the drain and fill plugs are 24mm. I used 2.75 qts. of Mobil 1 ATF in my 2006 2.3- 5 speed. So easy and affordable to do, I'll do it every 20,000 miles. Check your owner's manual for the capacity for your rangers year.
@@sinewave5745 Don't know. The ranger station is a pretty good forum with lots of info like that.
Excellent video! I used the same Harbor Freight pump; make sure the connections are secure! It is great once you do that!
felt SO GOOD to do this to my xlt!!!
Great video, simple and right to the point.
I am having trouble shifting through through some gears sometimes, that means is not my synchros, so I'm gonna go ahead and change my transmission fluid on my 03 ranger. Thank you jungleking007.
Thank you 😊 Going to Autozone right now to do it myself
Thank you! That was very helpful!
No one going to comment on the 5:21 fart? ;) haha
Thanks for this, going to do this on my 05 b2300 this weekend!
Lmao, was the pump lol
@@Allrepairs-jd5qu haha sure it was 😜
Thanks! i will do the same!
You can put fluid back in through the shift tower if you can't remove the fill plug.
just have to be careful to not overfill
Can you fill it back up through the little small plug right beside the big fill plug bc someone welded my fill plug and I need to change it but don’t know where to fill it back up at
Great vid! Thank you.
Its the same for an F150 with the M5OD-R2 aswell
Thanks
Used 2 dozen words explaining how long to drain the oil, used 2 words explaining what type of fluid you put into the transmission
Rather than waiting 20 minutes you’re better off just pouring a small amount of new fluid in and let it rinse some of the old stuff out then you’re good to go
which gear oil you are using sir?
got a 05 f150 stx v6 5 speed replaced fluid what id id not know is that the washer did not come off with the drain plug i cleaned off plug filled it back up and found the washer.would it hurt without it
How much oil did it consume? I have a 2003. Im guessing it has the transmission as yours.
Hello.
Which oil to be used in the manual gearbox of the F150 4.2 1998?
Mercon V ATF as the manual says?
Thank you! Great video.
My exhaust is right under the drain area, I'm assuming you first unbolted yours? And boy it's a tight fit down there
Exhaust runs along the passenger side of the transmission on this truck. Area I was working is wide open.
@@jungleking007Channel Mine's a little different for some reason
Valvoline max life works in the ranger 2007?
Recently got an 08 2.3l manual. I want to get this done asap but I’m not sure if it’s ever been done before. If it’s at 120k should I proceed or leave alone?
Manual transmissions are usually fine to change the fluid in at high miles. It's the automatic transmissions that you leave alone if fluid has never been changed.
cuantos litros ???
Would a used cleaned out Billy Bee bottle 1kg work to put fluid back in? Is there room?
I don't think there would be room. Originally thought of a bottle like that since some gear oils or transmission fluids do come in something similar. Found the cheap pump instead and proved to be easier.
Is it too late if my truck has 270k? It’s a manual transmission
For a manual transmission, I would say probably not too late. An automatic at this mileage and is the first time fluid change I would not touch.
Would it be a good idea to change my fluid on my truck it is a manual and has 105000
Manual transmissions are simply gearboxes and a bit more forgiving than an automatic transmission. They do have synchronizers which may pose an issue with slippage in shifting if worn down, but this is only a slight chance. As long as you use the recommended fluid in the change, you should be fine.
+JungleKing007 okay thank you
throughs crickets are loud as hell man
You should hear the cicadas!
If it's a manual transmission why is the fluid you are servicing with red like automatic fluid?
I believe the automatic and the manual transmissions for this truck use the same fluid type. It is the same situation for my Saturn and many other vehicles out there. However, there are some instances where gear oil is used rather than transmission fluid(ATF).
Ford Manual states ATF Mercon V not gear oil, ATF is red.
Same procedure if it's 4x4?
Should be. Plugs spoils be I the same locations. Also think the transfer case is separate so draining the transmission won't touch the transfer case as well.
