VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 6. 08. 2022
- It's the third episode of our What is Faster? series and Neil Donoghue is back out riding in the Forest Of Dean to compare the Nukeproof Giga with his shiny new Specialized Kenevo SL EMTB!
Will the Stability of the Kenevo be enough to beat the agility of the Giga!? đŹ

Hi Neil, would love to see how a budget Enduro bike would do like the Vitus Sommet
This is a classic Neil GMBN vid. These are what made me fall in love with GMBN. đ€©đ€©
Cheers!
Thanks for the support! Safe riding!
Awesome video Neil, love the way you talk about bikes! Keep it up
Thanks, i enjoy these ones
Glad you made the clarification on how you time yourself. Strava honestly sucks hard at that specific task. It will literally cut corners off and the times are all over the place.
It would be great to see Neil's Nukeproof Mega 290 Factory! I'd be interested to see how it goes against the Giga, and the Spectral for that matter đ
Yes please run the Mega on this trail
I dont actually care which is faster. I came here to watch Neil shred this trail with some metal beat.
Super cool video! I'd like to see a back-to-back of basically identical bikes in mullet vs 29er, like a Santa Cruz Chameleon.
I'm broke so Imma just leave a like and let my mouth water for these bikes đđ
We need to get Neil to do an e-EWS!
great video. Keep this series going... it is very cool to see.
What I learned: Neil is FAST!
Interesting comparisons - good show!
Thank you!
Great video Neil and crew, this is what we want to see đ
I'd still love to see the tripple Sunn Radical+ vs. a DH bike from the era before vs. modern DH bike. Kudos to the editors, that thunderbolt transition is sweet.
Yeah i would love to ride a Sunn Radical
Love the videos u make keep it up
Thanks, Koby! Glad to see you're loving the content! đ
nice video! i wish i was as good as something (anything) as good as neil is at riding.
This is nice content! Would be interessting if you would go for a full EMTB like the Megawatt.
That would be cool to test against a standard MTB. đ
Great video, will love to see the Orbea Rise vs Specialized.
DAMN you're fast!!
đđš
Maybe do a vid on all of the different geometry settings on the kenevo would love that
Quite amazing the difference, the Kenevo looked so sluggish in comparison to how much you could flick and pump the Giga
Neil, could you set up a challenge with the same style of bikes based on say a one day event like the Southern Enduro? Really interested to see the difference over stages against the clock with assisted liaisons & pedaling over the motor speed vs lighter bike for stages but harder liaisons. Which rider works harder over a race weekend? đ€
Yeah that's a good one, I've been rising my Kenevo SL a lot recently but still going hard, trying to get the same physical workout just with some extra watts and speed. Would be interesting at a race
@@neildonoghueMTB looking forward to seeing you piece this together sometime. Cheers đđ»
Excellent video. Finally a proper comparison without the shouty âE-bikes are bestâ and questionable timed runs from other presenters. And despite the normal bike winning, it doesnât stop me wanting an EMTB at all.
Awesome speed Neilđ€
Great vid Neil...be interesting to see what the Times would of been like, if you were on your trusty n/p mega?
Don't really care which bike you use but want this to come back
It even looked fast on the nukeproofđ€that was a good clean FAST runđ
Great video, which point on the trail do you stop the timer?
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks, Ryan!
Be good to see a Whyte T160 in the test. Can't recall if I've ever seen a Whyte bike feature on the chanel. Not sure why?
Hi Neil. I really enjoy watching the tests to see what faster. Please can you try a Trek Slash Vs Norco Range or nothing else I could be equivalent.
Privateer 161 could be a fast bike down there and is significantly cheaper than some of the other bikes youâve tested. Great video!
Don.
I have a trick yeti dj build.
The original bike that myself and Scott Roberts reviewd approximately a decade ago in DIRT magazine.
I'd love to see you fire that down that hill đ
that day looked like the goldilocks day to be in the woods. I'd have stayed there until my lungs fell out. Cheers Don
26/28psi on such a trye/rim combination, isn't that a bit hard for Neils weight and the terrain?
Like to see a stumpy Evo comp on that leaderboard
YES! good rider, nice lines, top speed!!!
Cool video. Now re run with a derestricted full fat emtb đ
Would be interesting to see how the Whyte e180 compares
I have one of those and was thinking the same thing đ€
Ok, I know this isn't at all the point, but I am curious why you chose different gear and especially a different helmet with the eBike?
Now include the shuttle ride to the top
And THATâS why I still want an EMTB haha
I'm gonna put in my 18kgs Kenevo SL with Maxima Brakes. You should take this one on this trail. It won't feel any different from the Nukeproof.
Ps. Idea for the future. A trail bike test around the freeminers extension and XC version around the verderers trail. Same test as you doing now.
Iâm also lucky enough to have a long travel enduro bike and ebike! Given the choice of only having one, Iâd rather have my ebike! All day fun, climbs included!
Hi Neal, could you do a lap with the Orbea Occam H10?
A suggestion for bikes to use compare. Blakeâs gravel bike vs Blakeâs fat bike.
You can tell Neil enjoyed this one. He's always a great rider. But it's been a while since I've seen him ride like that. He looked like he was riding for prize money. The song should have been "Bat out of hell". That's what he looked like.
Considering how much time was spent over 25 km/h, I think a de-restricted ebike would have a diffent outcome.
Please try a Norco Sight VLT
From my experience on the Kenvevo SL; it is faster than my Enduro through the chunky sections because it doesn't get hung up as easily and slower than my Enduro of the faster/flowy sections.
Close contest going downhill. How about uphill?
the Commencal Meta SX would be nice to see against the Giga.
I hate to say this but...Neil! You only do the occasional EMBN video so that you get a free ebike!đ€Ł
Neil I would like to see some Canyon Neuron on channel. I would like to buy one.
would love to see Yeti on that list
How about a gravel bike vs 29r HT XC bike or maybe even retro XC bike as your next comparison?
They recently did a gravel vs xc video, though I'd love see something interesting like mullet groupsets like used in gravel races like taller gear gravel groupset equipped on XC bike vs gravel
@@LastAphelion well, since vintage xc bikes were heavily influenced by road bikes, maybe a better comparison would be gravel vs vintage xc bike. Both are short, steep head angle and long stems.
Plus, the video that Blake and Neil did wasn't a race on the same course and was a gravel vs a XC FS bike, not a HT. The video that Anna did was just a component and geometry comparison.
We know a XC bike has the advantage in its element but what I would like to see is if a HT XC bike could keep up with a gravel in its element.
Gravel bike VS hardtail xc bike
I don't see your Pole bike time in the list?
Maybe for the next one đ
Cool, on another note why does nobody champion rocky mountain bikes ?
Good video Neil, also highlight the price difference between one and the other and maybe the reason why you own an electric bikeâŠthanks!
Yeah the Spec KSL is not cheap... I love it though, super capable and i an get a really good ride in not a lot of time, plus it handles way better than a full fat ebike
@@neildonoghueMTB thanks Neil!

More Neil
Santa Cruz mega tower & Hightower
GIGA FTW!
I think the roller gap did make a difference even tho you cased both of them on the giga. Actually hitting both jumps on the E bike had to have been slower
Giga vs Torque
Interesting video. I ride a SC Hightower and a full fat Turbo Levo. While a comparison is possible, not sure why it matters (or why one would, except to make an entertaining vid). Itâs like comparing a motorboat and a sailboat. They really are different beasts (wouldnât want a motorboat in heavy seas, nor a sailboat on a glassy lake). Yes emtbs can be fast downhill - maybe not as fast as an amish bike. But can an amish bike scream uphill like an emtb? Rocketing uphill is where emtbs shine. And our local trail builders are starting to design âuphill featuresâ that take advantage of the climbing capabilities of emtbs. Uphill fun is the future. I guess if you can only have one bike - it should be a lightweight emtb. If you can have two, go full fat for a true emtb experience. Yes the costs are insane - but hasnât mountain biking always been about being insane đ€·ââïž Gotta have priorities đč
Whoever payed more to be the "winner" of the test.
I would love to see YT Industries bikes and some ROSE bikes like the ROOT MILLER or their trail/enduro Hardtail BONERO
It went together easily in less than an hour. czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
Great video. However the price of the S-Works at over ÂŁ13k is obscene and way beyond the reach of most people. I would like to see the Nukeproof go up against a similar priced eBike around the ÂŁ4,600 bracket.
Why? If the Giga is faster than a Kenevo SL itâs definitely going to be a lot faster than a heavy, alloy-framed EMTB with budget components!
To your other point, I like Specialized bikes on the whole but my god, their S-Works prices really are a complete piss take. It has been done before in magazine articles and videos but in some cases you could buy a Comp or Expert bike, then buy the same/equivalent parts to the S-Works on-line and still have change⊠AND you can sell the original components. Madness.
The way to do it is buy the KSL Comp then upgrade it, it is actually cheaper than the S-Works that way even without selling the parts. I personally bought the Comp as it came with the Fox 36 Rhythm which has thicker stanchions so feels similar to Fox 38, and put in an EXT E-Storia. Only other upgrade will be wheels when I damage these and X01 Cassette after the GX wears.
@@rezenclowd3 Totally agree, thatâs pretty much what I would/will do. Iâm just holding fire to see what the new Levo SL is like next monthâŠ
@@rezenclowd3 I was going to get a Comp, and swap out the cheaper fork for the Lyric Ultimate I've on my analogue bike but managed to get an Expert in the Black Friday sales instead. Did you know that all versions have the same carbon frame?
@b r yes only paint and 3rd part parts are different
what are those brakes on the ebike ?
SRAM Code RSC are on the factory bike, but those are TRP something that must have been added later for some reason
@@robinburt5735 Yeah TRP, i did a custom build with a frameset. Video over on EMBN đđ
Neil should use a road bike on the this track
Make a video Neil vs. Sam Hill
haha, i tried that for more than a few years, i don't remember ever winning. May have happened, i just don't remember...
Can you chip or hack the specialised so that the motor will go faster
Which was fastest peddling back up!đ€Șđ
So conflicted about e-bikes. On one hand I could save a lot of time on the ups, especially useful during those hurried afternoone rides. But than, how do I keep up my fitness. I see people on e-bikes. That is not a workout.
Transition spire,sentinel or patrol
the tour du spire, all sprint and uphill on spire/sentinel etc đ€Ł
YOU ASK WHAT'S FASTER? MY SPECIALIZED S-WORKS ENDURO LTD. IT GOES AT LEAST 1000 sMILES đ PER HOUR EVERYTIME I RIDE IT.đ€Łđ€
Aw mate My giga should be here any day now I canât wait now đđ»
We hope you enjoy it! Great bike choice! đ
@@gmbn absolutely love it the fox x2 is going to take a hell off setting up tho đ
E-Bike looked faster too!
Great test and result, cheers. đđ
Fun video, but ebikes are for going up the hill...
Than why do ebikes have suspension?
Haha! Controversial! đ
@@thetrusted9298You have to get to the top of the hill before you go down it. You don't really need pedal assistance going downhill so an eMTB won't show its value on a pure downhill race.
Do the YT Capra please :)
Normal bikes faster DH lighter more movement while e bike uphill đ€đŒđ€đŒ
Let's do it again with the Stoic, hardtail cannot be beaten đ€
not a fan of music playing over the riding
Don't even need to watch. It's definitely the giga
New teeth Neil ?
đ dude... Not even a joke, I've finally got some permanent front teeth. First time in a while
Not fair. One is e-bike. One is not.
what does that have to do with anything? It's a downhill track not a cross country track lol. You hardly pedal so where you gain any sort of acceleration you lose it in early braking..
25kg Full fat Ebike..... faster I think.
Hello
đ
Yo
đ
Love the channel but what a dumb comparison, I have a KSL and a s-works enduro, surely that would of been a better comparison video âŠ. Trail centre the lighter bike what ever it is will be quicker , natural tech the s-works is quicker , I use the same wheels on both bikes, the problem is weight is harder to stop and harder to generate speed over the motor limit
So you're talking up 'accurate timing' using frame-by-frame analysis from a video while claiming a winner off the back of a single run down a track, no two slightly different tracks for each bike.
GMBN and GCN ("Is A Retro Time Trial Bike Faster Than A Modern Superbike? from yesterday as an example) comparisons are becoming a joke. Sure, tell the audience how each bike feels faster, your person impressions of how each bike rides and handles - all great information based on years of your experience...BUT...don't base conclusions on ridiculously small sample sizes in totally uncontrolled environments.
Lets be honest, unless you are actually racing, who cares? IME, the rider makes something like 1000% more difference than the bike they are riding........ In the real world, the advantage of the ebike is what happens after the downhill run, ie you just turn around and pedal straight back to the top for another run, and here, you save not seconds, but minutes or even hours over the course of the day, and not having to book the uplift van means you can go an hit the DH trails any day at zero notice :-)
In the whats faster series i did introduce thats is just for fun and for my satisfaction more than anything, because im doing it year round whatever the weather. But the start and finish are consistent and i ride the same track. Yes lines may differ a bit tio gte the best from each different bike but its no different to a legit race? The same start and finish point, get there as fast as you can.
We need to stop ebikes, they are taking over. its promoting terrible habits in the biking world. Dont be afriad to pedal, dont give that up for convince. Stop skynet!
Horrible upbeat "music". Thanks jutub for mute button.
I thought the music was great for a change
