The giveaway was when you said early on you'd had them for 6 months. Good review, punchy. Not a confident cyclist myself so would definitely not do anything to distract myself!
I've had mine for a couple of years and I like them enough that I would buy another pair in a heartbeat. Speaking of buying another pair, it looks like I'll be doing that soon, as my Aftershokzs have developed the dreaded rattle on one side. I hope Aftershokz (now called Shokz) has addressed this quality issue. I use them a lot when I cycle and wind noise is a problem, but I recently put a pair of Cat-Ears by Air Streamz. They look a bit weird, but they do cut down the wind noise considerably.
Great review! I'm very interested in getting one now. Do you know if they feel comfy with regular or cycling sunglasses? I live in Sydney so I need the sunnies for almost every ride
you can wear them whilst wearing sunglasses / glasses. just have to remember you have them on when removing glasses as they can get almost 'tangled' in each other
Personally, my default is to invest in £20 pair of over-ear headphones off of Amazon, generally "sport band" one. The brand changes regularly, and sadly the microphone quality has dropped off significantly, which became an issue over lockdown, but about the only rule I've needed to follow is make sure they're not big cans and make sure there's no noise-cancelling and they're absolutely perfect for cycling: if I can hear the tyres of the car rolling behind me then I know they're fine. Sound quality on these can vary a lot, again something that's actually got worse over the years, but once you've found a decent pair you're golden.
@@JakeMay yeah I ordered the standard and was quite big at the back and pushed off my ear if I sat back on sofa etc. The mini are a great fit and I've got an average sized head I think lol
Yep I've used them for podcasts. You do have to crank the volume up, which can be a bit jarring if an advert comes on, but they work well! I personally find podcasts more distracting than music though
There is the obvious: "How much distraction is safe," when on cycling the road. In a group setting, I would expect them to be a "no-go," sort of like aerobars.
Yeah I was fiddling around with seeing if I could skip a track by randomly pressing buttons and ended up - while I was cycling - calling someone and not knowing how to hang up 😂
With the Openrun Pro I found you can hear the traffic noise too much when commuting. The ambient traffic & wind noise (esp at speeds of 30kph or higher) blocks out the podcast or audiobook. I can't get the volume up high enough on the Shokz headphones to hear the audio. I couldn't really use them for bike commuting. Am I the only cyclist who has had this experience?
Great review. Thinking of buying. Would they be ok for running ? I'm a petite & wonder if they would flap about at the back. Also did you have any connectivity problems especially in cold weather? Some Amazon reviews have said that was an issue
They seem pretty secure - I think they're designed for running as well. I haven't noticed any connectivity issues, though I've not cycled a tonne this winter so not that thoroughly tested that specific aspect
I wear mine for cycling. Think they're amazing. Do catch a little on collars but just adjust a bit and it's fine. No connectivity issues in all temps, unlike my previous set of earbuds. Audiophiles won't be shouting their praises but for me they're more than good enough for training and casual listening at work say. Charge lasts all day too. Brilliant.
What are they like for phone calls? It looks like they have a mic, but does it work well and can you hear the caller clearly? Another concern is if people can hear any of the soppy crap / blazing arguments my OH & I engage in.
I come from the opposite side of the fence... I believe cyclists should be focusing on their surroundings, ride and journey... live in the moment... NOT music.
I bought Aeropex headset on the weekend. Rode in rain on Sunday and on the road. Road in a stiff headwind yesterday. Really happy with what they do. Sometimes they get drowned out (I only listen to podcasts) but overall really happy. Sound quality much better than I thought.
You rate them that highly? I definitely wouldn't us them just on a train or bus etc - want to block out as much external sound as possible in those situations 😅
@@JakeMay listening to anything other than the traffic and events around you while riding is stupid. This is a new product so it seems to me that guy has worn normal earphones regularly before. My comment stands, hearing is one of your primay senses which will keep you safe. That guy wears a helmet to protect himself yet has in the past decided he can get by not hearing events occurring around him giving himself no time to react to them.

Great review, have been riding with them for a couple of years and love them. 8 hour/charge genuine battery life a huge bonus too
Excellent review.. no time wasting.. thanks
Super helpful review! Thanks Jake, subbed!!!
Just got mine. Thanks for the Great review. short and sweet. yeah I agree the band sizing does indeed feel a bit weird at the back at times.
Hope you enjoy them!
There is a mini model.

Hit them up for a replacement, i had a button fail and they were great about replacing

The Aeropex Mini are great. Makes the neck band smaller and closer to the neck
Interesting. Still can't work out why the neck band is so big!

Thanks for the review! When you say about the volume… are they suitable for an audiobook or podcast when cycling too?

I use mine when running. The only thing that would make them better is fast forward / rewind controls.

I haven't personally used them for phone calls so couldn't comment, but in terms of sound leakage, they are surprisingly good.
I may have missed this, but did you get the regular or mini size?
Regular - I don't think the Mini existed when I bought them.
I come from the opposite side of the fence... I believe cyclists should be focusing on their surroundings, ride and journey... live in the moment... NOT music.
Each to their own!
What about wind noise? Wouldn't that drown out the sound from the headphones?
Yeah if it's windy you do need to crank the volume if you want to properly hear every word of e.g. a podcast. I don't mind so much with music

@@MarkFerraretto glad to hear it!
The open gap loop behind your head makes it look strange
Thanks
nothing but bluetooth problems, 8hr battery time nope....but saying that I might have a dodgy pair
No, they are simply the best earphones ever.

@@JakeMay it's like 4x4 and cabriolet. Everyone has it's own purpose.
There are no playback control buttons and Siri doesn’t work with them. Useless.
You wear a helmet and then deprive your self of one of the main senses which keeps you safe.
Did you watch the video? The whole point of these earphones is that you can still hear your surroundings.
