- What is minimalism? There are so many videos, blog posts, and books out there about how to declutter your home, lists of things that minimalists no longer buy, and rules for frugal living.
But there’s an implied assumption that you know minimalism is, and that may not necessarily be the case. So in this video, I want to go over the basics. A ‘minimalism for beginners guide’, if you will.
At its core, minimalism is about removing excess and distractions, to create space for what’s truly important. Minimalism is not just about getting rid of stuff. Decluttering is only a means to an end. The bigger goal is to be more intentional, to take control of your life, and have more time and space for that what’s most essential to you.
Over the last decade or so, the minimalist lifestyle has become very popular. If you’re just getting started, minimalism may seem like a relatively new idea. But that’s not the case. Minimalism has been around for most of the 20th century in architecture, interior design, music, and art. And if you look at the essence of minimalism, which is to simplify and live a more intentional life, we can go back in time even further.
Finally, I will share my 3 tips for getting started with minimalism.

What does minimalism mean to you?
It's kind hard to tell. I would say : living in a "clear" space (not in unobstructed rooms for example), living with the essential (to cook, to sleep, to wear...). Living the simple way of life. (I hope I've be clear, my English is very bad)
@@madiemurakawa1598 Thanks for sharing, I understand perfectly what you mean!
@@madiemurakawa1598 I second that, simplicity is key.
Peace.
I don't know why but i got conneted to your videos. Your soothing voice makes me relaxed. Hope more videos on minimalism in future. Thank you.
Thank you so much 😊! I will definitely publish more videos about minimalism in the future.
Your videos are soooo uplifting ! Thank you so much again, you'd really changed my life.
Happy to hear that, Madie, thank you! 😊
Minimalism means for me freedom to add more of what I love. Great video, Peter!
Thanks Nathalie!
Thnks for your videos!! There are so many interesting aspects to it. One thing Ive realized is that "bucket lists" can be counter productive. Maybe its better to accept that I wont ever visit Everest base camp or cruise up the Amazon but I will explore and really appreciate interesting new nature trails, during different seasons, that are pretty close to me.
Interesting thought, Lachlan! I wouldn't give up on your dreams, even if those are something big like visiting Everest base camp. But I totally agree that amazing experiences and beauty can (also) be found close to home. Exploring local nature trails sounds amazing to me. And who knows, all that exercise could even be practice for a big trip one day 😉.
شكرا لحضرتك جدا على هذا الشرح الوافي عن المينيملزم
Wow, I love this. I always been one who love throw away things and keep my environment clean and not cluttered. But this makes so much sense, I think I been a minimalist my whole life except the materialistic lust one often uncounciously feel.
Glad to hear you found the video insightful, John! 🙌🏻
I have time today. I'm watching all your videos Thank YOU for all wisdom and knowledge. You've been sharing to us
Wow, that's great Alexandrea! I'm happy to hear you're enjoying all the videos and find them helpful ✨
i don't know why exactly but i really enjoy your vidéos once more ,your voice perhaps ?( sorry for my bad english), thank you fore sharing those vidéos very peaceful and so interesting .
😊 Glad you're enjoying the videos, Frederic!
I know I need space, space is so important to me, to free my mind. I have too much all around me, and I'm learning as I've already started to declutter, the space does give me more peace. I want space, order, beauty, peace. Find out who I am, and what I really like, not just all the "to do's" and stuff all around me.
I think the biggest thing I have to decide is my why: I just know I want and need the space. To find out what I really love, and that's what I make room for in my life. What do I love, what am I created to do: this would be most likely a passion and energy that comes from within, as I begin to get more in touch with this life I'm living, and not just "doing" doing things.
Peter, I think there is so much more to this, but I'm excited to begin, to be able to get the freedom to live and love the life I want to live.
I really like your videos as you share from your life, and show your apartment. It's not just a tutorial on how to, but your life and energy, passion, and example of the good it has created in you, is a real plus. Thank you!
Sounds like you're on to something here, Cindy. Once you have clarity about your why, it's easier to make tough decisions on what you want to change in your life. Good luck 🌟!
@@IAmPeterCook Thank you, Peter! I'm sure I'll be watching more of your video's!
Lovely man ❤❤
I love your videos so much , thank you
That's great to hear, thanks Ruth! 🙏🏻
Good point. I couldnt agree more. Peace
I gave everything away before I moved to different country. I can’t tell myself a minimalist maybe conscious about buying. When I buy something I thought about moving out country and whether I would take this item with me or not. Sometimes I buy because I need them or I enjoy very much. But most of the time I stop myself or check second hand shops.
Thanks for sharing! ✨
Thank You
This’s helpful , I’m blessed
Thank you for sharing all 3 points
It made me think and looking now into my small room and what it needs to go
And why If I’m doing this?
All my life I didn’t have much and I was striving to have, and lately I feel God is leading me to simplify my life and my thinking & my desires maybe ?
Now I just understand why Lord Jesus didn’t own anything in this cursed world 🌎 and call us to a simple life
Because there’s power to overcome the world by not conform to the world,
And focus on what’s important :
To learn to LOVE
love God, love myself and love people.
Oh my God!
I’m having aha moment💡
God bless you 💗
Thank you, Mary!
Minimalism is about creating meaning . I want to follow the path of Diogenes of sinope 🥳 least possessions 🤗
Yes, minimalism is ultimately a way to find what's essential and meaningful in your life. Decluttering your living space is simply a means to that end 😀.
I feel some binge watching coming into my life!!!
Enjoy! 😀
Nice video! I would like to reduce the distractions in my life and feel more peaceful.
Good luck with reducing those distractions, Lisa! 🙌🏻
Excellent video!
Thank you!
netflix has lots of series and movies and directs us to more consumption but sametime it has doc. about minimalism...
المينيملزم يعني بالنسبة لي الحريه و الحياة بسعادة
How many books on minimalism would you recommend buying?
I would start with one. Maybe one by The Minimalists, or Fumio Sasaki's "Goodbye Things." That's what I did. 🙂 And then see if you resonate with it and if you can start taking your first steps toward a more minimalist lifestyle. If you find that it's something that resonates with you, you can always read more books then. Hope this helps!
