  • Sticks are also a “ok” alternative, besides they are free but they aren’t as strong, durable, or reliable and I personally just don’t trust them. Check out the links below to the rod holders talked about in this video.

I use scrap 1 1/2" angle iron. If a person doesn't have access to scrap, they can check scrap yards and they'll sell it by the pound. Lowes and Home Depot have short pieces that aren't too expensive. I then cut 2" PVC in the lengths that I need (12" to 18" is usually enough) and fasten to the inside of the angle iron with 2 hose clamps. I leave 1 or 2 inches of angle sticking above the PVC so I can drive it in with a hammer.
I also almost always free spool with a clicker using bait casting reels so that I'm not worrying about my rod going for a swim. On casting reels, if it doesn't have a loud clicker then I don't buy it. On spinning reels I just leave the drag real loose and hope for the best.
I caught a 22lb carp this year that spooled me before I noticed and grabbed it. I had a good knot on the spool or she would have been dragging a bunch of 35lb braided fishing line around behind her! That was too close! It was a bait feeder reel so as soon as I hit the crank it locked down and the fight was on. But she'd gone way up river and I got to run her down while I reeled. I'm too old to be running up and down river banks anymore!
Thanks for the post man! You have some good ideas and work hard at this and it's evident by the quality of your content. Your content is first rate and hopefully more and more people in our community will discover you. You deserve one of those plaques on your wall!

I really like the Muddy River Holders. Being cheap, it’s hard to come up with $20 sometimes. I have made my own with a ozark trails boat rod holder welded to a piece of 3/8 round steel about two and a half to three foot long. They will work for me till I can save up to get a couple of Muddy River. Great video Chris

I was thinking of purchasing the bass pro model and they are sold out of the longer ones so just go to local metal welding shop and add 2ft on to the short one in stock just bolt it on if ever wanted short again just remove added piece

They are solid and the owner/operator is busting his ass for the brand. He does all the work from cutting, to bending, to welding, to shipping. I’m forever sold on them.

Or you can literally just drop a piece of PVC 2 inch into the ground without paying these ridiculous prices

@@FishingWithChris_Tv no you don't I've literally have sharks pulling drag maybe if you've left your PVC pipe out in the sun for 10 years until it's all brittle schedule 40 PVC will not break from a fish common sense sum people don't have yeah if you've got cracks in it from beating on it with a metal object and not pushing it down in the soft mud by hand or not putting a piece of wood on top of the pipe then driving it down you can literally use a short 2x4 and drive them in if you lost gear to lack of common sense then I don't believe anyone should take your advice on rod holders facts!!!
