- Rounding out the reviews of the new Seiko fall releases for 2021, we have the Presage sporty dress watches. The box hardlex makes the dial pop, and the use of applied markers and great polishing allows it standout on your wrist.
But that's where the good stuff ends! Check out the review of all three.
longislandwatc...
Thank you for watching.
Perfect example of why Marc has such a great reputation in the watch community - even though he’s selling these, he was honest about the negative points and didn’t gloss over them. Thanks as always, Marc.
Yeah, gotta be.
Which also highlights another problem with the industry. From my understanding he has to sell these in order to sell other seikos that’s are more sought after. I could be wrong.
@@SaSpursFan please say something about that Marc
eh, I think it’s for show. keep the trolls(who don’t and won’t own seiko) at bay. those who appropriate watch engineering and design will buy one if they fancy it, regardless of marc’s ‘opinion.’ a solid, all around compromise.
@@SaSpursFan on some sites these are sold out, I think you might be surprised. Most people are non-watch people and this watch does look awesome
Just got the blue one. The reasoning is simple. I like dress watches, but feel like I can only wear them when dressed up. The bezel makes it slightly less dressy and suitable for everyday use. I put a leather strap on it so I'm not about to go swimming with it. The fact the bezel doesn't rotate doesn't really bother me.
Glad you can live with it. Would absolutely love these but the issues outlined are too much for me... Maybe i'll buy it on a drunken night, maybe...
@@lordbogus6709 having owned it for a few months now I still love it. Found a nato strap that matches perfectly. Watch feels like the beach when wearing it on the nato. It’s summer here and it’s perfect on a sunny day.
A presage with less dress looking... I would go for this aswel. Dont care the bezel and 50mt wr. Only would like to see Sapphire Crystal glass on this.
@@lordbogus6709 it is great, just get it if you like how it looks.
My friend has one and the hardlex seems strong. No wear signs. He wears it every other day.
I appreciate that these watches force the consumer to finally just admit to themselves the truth- you don't dive and you don't even like to swim.
Seiko is afraid with misalignment of the bezel so they make it non rotated 😂
Ive seen many missaligned fixed bezels on Tissot. So Seiko can missaligned these too lmao.
😂💀
I can understand non-rotating bezels on the Presage GMTs, but this along with 50m WR begs the question "Why do these models exist?"
Right? I’m so disappointed in Seiko lately
Supposed to be dress, with a touch of sport. I don't get it either.
It's weird, It looks like a dress watch pretending to be a Diver. What was Seiko thinking?
Kind of a "poser" watch... Like adding "turbo" badges to a non turbo car.
This is what you get when you make too many compromises. From a different perspective, this is also a great example how there's no one perfect watch that can check all your boxes. Different features for different purposes, and over compromising will lead to not meeting the requirements of any of those use cases.
You can hear the disappointment in Mark’s voice. Do better, Seiko.
Man I let myself down!
@@islandwatch Seiko do not care ...
@@islandwatch The rehaut area is a mess. It's ugly. The only way to do thin bezels is high quality. Like the Speedmaster. They didn't. This watch won't do well.
Really makes me want to buy one of his watches
@@arcdestriumph586 You'd be surprised, showed this to a few non watch people and they ALL said this was the best watch I'd showed them
Seen a few reviews on this and people are demanding sapphire and rotating bezel. Well this review point out boxed sapphire would increase the price on this was hugely, a rotating bezel a bit, but one with a quality action would again increase the cost considerably. I love this watch, the crystal looks so much better with hardlex when it has this boxed shape as sapphire in my opinion must be flatter to avoid milky rings and glare unless it’s coated. A rotating bezel is not something I find important anyway. The watch looks fantastic.
Demanding sapphire and a rotating bezel?
Are these people idiots?
This is not a dive or a work watch. Why the fuck would you need a rotating bezel?
This is one of the most beautiful 60 homage watches to ever come out. It is nothing short of stunning.
I bought the ruby bezel version, and I love it.
Seiko forgot to add the "Seiko 5" emblem!!
Iget what you mean,my favourite watch is Seiko 5 tho.
Oooohhh. That hurts.
no, seiko 5 has normal water resistance ))
Well it would need 100m wr
@@bigboiganiga8356 It's even funnier that we can buy Seiko 5 watches that have rotating bezel and a proper water resistance for half the price of this one ! 🤣
Agreed Marc, definitely think it looks great but quite quirky in terms of its short comings. If it was a tad smaller I think it would have been better too.
Maybe getting to a different wrist market, yeah, good idea.
I think that a fluted bezel is a better look on a "dress watch" then a non-rotating numbered bezel. 👍🏽✌🏽
Right. Turn-o-graph vibes.
For me, it's almost to the point to where if it's a choice between a Seiko or an Orient (speaking generally here) I would take an Orient any day over a Seiko....quality and value just seem to be a notch higher at Orient these days.
I like to tell people my seikos are an extension of myself (like most watches should be). Handsome and gets the job done most of the time but imperfect. Lmaoo but yeah i agree. Im so surprised how accurate my Kamasu compared to my king turtle and samurai when it comes to time tracking. My kamasu is almost accurate down the the second while my kings end up being about 4-5 minutes ahead all in a weeks time.
Understood!
I just wish Orient made smaller watches. Almost all of them are 41mm and above; the Bambino's for example, 40.5mm but the dials are huge, so they size them right out of a lot of people's choices. Actually emailed Orient once to request this, probably went straight into the G file lol.
Not to mention orient star. Top notch at an extremely affordable price.
Seiko seems to be one of those companies living off of it's past reputation and that's why I don't 100% buy into the heritage bs. What are they doing Today???. Orient has been better for years. Seiko fans have been begging for sapphire, hacking, hand-winding forever and management hasnt listened.
So the problem that people have with this watch, more or less, is it looks like a dive watch but isn't? Expectations are in correlation with disappointments, I say. Keep your expectations low, and you won't ever be disappointed. ;)
Getting past that, I think they look great. I almost bought one while I was in Japan. They had a special on them which put them at around $400 USD. For that money I think you get a very nice dress watch. You even get a milled clasp, unusual for Seiko at the price point. I think they're pretty nice overall. I don't see a problem at all with going for the retro diver look but just being a fixed bezel, low-wr piece. It's still sporty/dressy and that's clearly the point of this one. Very beautiful pieces from Seiko.
"It's a non-rotating, 60 minute bezel" .......Sorry Marc, I'm out. Why do they put markers on a bezel that doesn't rotate? Makes no sense to me at all and only cheapens the watch. 🤦♂️
probably the only way they could get the bezel to line up.....make it stationary!!
@@jh-il5sb LOL 🤣
We can always enjoy you Marc, even if the watches are a bit flat sometimes.
Great, thanks!
If it were a rotating bezel it would be to difficult for Seiko to align.
I'm honestly surprised that they didn't misalign a fixed bezel.
Nothing surprises me with Seiko nowadays, feels like their watches are made by 8yr old kids.
Orient is the new Seiko, pre-2010 Seiko.
@@lazar2175 I love many Seiko designs, but for value and quality it's better to go with the Chinese homages. No complaints with my Steeldive "Willard". With the SKXs the situation is supremely ironic with the knockoffs having sapphire and ceramic and a hacking, windable SEIKO movement. Interestingly, Orient is owned by Seiko.
I remember seeing this one, and it’s gorgeous- and I’m like I NEED THAT. Then seeing the specs I had the same exact reaction as you. I know it’s presage, but if your going to make it look like a sport watch, spec it like one. The 50m especially. They manage to make their seiko 5 sports watches with 100m… at a much lower price point… wtf? And the bezel is just plain silly. I’ll always have a soft spot for seiko but these just plain confuse me lol
Thanks for commenting.
How often do you dive to 100m ?
50m is more than you need, seriously.
@@duncanwaterston6145 I’m not sure you understand what a 100m rating means
Maybe they specced it at 50 so people wouldn’t beat it, and actually take care of it like a Presage. Just a thought.
Hi Marc, luv your work, keep up the great content and honesty. I do however disagree with your take on the new Presage. As a vintage inspired, "sporty" dress watch, it's an absolute stunner. I'm obsessed with dive watches, but they don't always work with formal attire. In my opinion, that's the aim of the new SRPG's. It has design elements of legendary divers, while being it's own thing, scratching that itch during office hours, till you can rock a proper diver. The Lorier watches definitely beats it for value/price quality and Prospex for performance, but Seiko aced it in the looks department and I'm sure the finishing is up to Presage standards. I think it's going to fly off the shelves. Have a good one.. regards
Absolutely love the white dial! It will be my next purchase!
I love the presage collection and i have 6 presages! I have only 2 divers because i like dress watches more but this watch gives me the sportie/dress watch feeling! Perfect
Seiko finally solved the misaligned bezel problem with this one 🤡
meh, some of this model even got QC issues at misaligned marker and lume dot as well.
LOL
The 30 on the bezel of the blue one looks misaligned to me...
Looks especially disappointing when you compare it to the Citizen NJ2180 - which has a box sapphire, titanium case/bracelet, 100m of WR and can be found under $300 (RRP equivalent to $460 USD). Maybe one to consider stocking?
I picked up mine this afternoon, love it! Personally I prefer having new models with different features than having another color of the same ref (62Mas, Turtle…).
Let’s be honest for a minute, who’s gonna dive with this one? Nobody of course it’s a Presage, so I dig the fixed bezel :)
I have the 5 Sports SRPD55 and tested some new 2021 Seikos from 700€ to 1200€. I’m pretty happy to pay 500€ for this new Presage.
Personally I think the Sports 5 are overpriced (especially with that bracelet). I picked up mine for 180€, that’s a more accurate price.
Ps: Given what you’re saying this thumbnail/title is a bit « clickbaity » Mark. But you got me so it’s working I guess :)
Take note Marc, inverted mid link, one reason it wears so well, PLEASE offer this on your Islander watches…!!!
Yes, noted.
Thx Marc, i really want to buy one (or more!) of your watches…
I don't know what it is about this guy, but his laid back attitude makes me want to be his buddy.
Plus I could borrow his watches.
LOLOLOL
You're the best, Marc! Seiko really fumbled this one, it could've been a Seamaster 300 on a budget, but we got this instead.
Love the honesty, watch dealers usually "love" everything they sell!
I actually like them. Just looks like a lovely, old-world (602 say!) gentleman's sports watch. Love the white/cream dial version.
I think they're really cool and classy
One thing I don't think anybody's brought up is that this watch is an homage to the 45899 Monopusher Chronograph. That isn't a diver bezel, that's a chronograph bezel. Now the original version was a rotating bezel (for the chronograph function), but this one also doesn't have a chronograph function...so I'm not that bothered by it. 🤷♂️ Same with water resistance.
Love the honesty Marc.
You are welcome.
Make that a bi-directionnel, friction bezel with 1-12 markers and you've got a great looking and functional, travel, dress watch
Or a bi-directional friction bezel with the markers left as they are. Easiest way for a watch to time walks, runs, cooking, etc.
I absolutely love the looks of these, particularly the blue one. That being said, the negatives noted do bother me. I get no sapphire, because even though I've never tried to get a watch built, I know the box sapphire is more expensive. I'm good with hardlex at the price. The lack of at least 100m water resistance, when it looks very much like a dive watch case is truly puzzling. A rotating bezel would be nice, but isn't a deal breaker. Does it have a bit shinier indices than a diver? Yes. Does that make up for the fact that the land tortoise and divers can be had for around the same cost with 200m WR, rotating bezels, etc.? Not really. Maybe they'd be an easier sell at $450 MSRP, maybe not. It's just my opinion, for what little that's worth. The 12 o'clock indicator on the lume isn't a big deal to me, because if I put my arm straight across, it's pretty obvious where that's at. That's more of a nice to have on a regular watch, but a must on a diver.
That's a great watch at 300 bucks, needs sapphire and 100 m water resistance to be in the $500 range in my opinion.
True.
inflation happened a while ago and is still happening. $300 doesn’t get you a good watch anymore
@@MrMadvillan that's profiteering on hype, not inflation.
@@MrMadvillan you're looking in the "Islander" at long Island Watch.

Just bought the blue dial version as a beater and am very happy with it but appreciate Mark's honest review. BTW, $348 delivered to my door.
Aaaaawsome watch. So stylish and wears GREAT! Can not recommend it enough. Got it new for $350ish, great value. If you like how it looks, just buy it.
Even as a Seiko fan I can say that Seiko roasting has become legit and entertaining. Seiko, these are warning signs. 💪
I agree with Mark that these have great appearance but for $500+ USD Seiko is being very ticky tack. Ok, box sapphire is very expensive. Why not single dome sapphire? That could look really nice on these. Why the cheap clasp with basically no micro adjustment? I don’t get the timing bezel anyway, but if you’re going to have one why non rotating? Either get rid of the graduation or make the bezel bidirectional. Overall if Seiko is going for being higher end they need to up their game on the details.
Not a diver. Not a dress watch. Not a sports watch. But I've still got one...SSA426J1. I think I need help..
The Esthetic of this watch is insane, had it been a lil bit smaller, would have bought it eventually.
Maybe it's the thin "divers" bezel, but the dial looks huge. Feel like they could've shrunk the case size a bit and just scrapped the aluminum ring
Not my style of Seiko, but I can understand how people dig it!!! I think that the open heart version adds a little more of an interesting look!!!
True. A bit more sophistication.
Why are you yelling, mate?
$300 added just for a signed crown 👑
They are very pretty, Did you keep one for yourself?
I got the 09J1 and been absolutely loving it! I guess it's supposed to be an oversized dress watch with diver looks... 🤷♂️
I also got mine 30% off the retail price so that obviously changes my views on the watch.
How much did you pay. its a good looking watch
Never really understood the watch communities obsession with WR. People won't buy this to swim in, they will buy because they like the look of it. 50m is fine for the people who will eventually buy this unless their office overlooks a harbour and they hang out their window a lot.....
50m is not 50m. It's a spec, and a low one at that. I've had 50m dials fog-up in the shower.
@@mightbesherwood1313 then don't wear them in the shower. It really is that simple.
I got the blue one for 2 weeks now and its drop dead gorgeous.
The lume dot beside the date window is bugging me. It does break the symmetry of the dial.
It does.
Classic department store looker, low on specs, high on holiday gift potential. It's Seiko's core audience in the States, but also their Achilles heel for Grand Seiko or anything high spec.
And Canada also. Department store tier selection
Love seeing that 6139 keep popping up! I literally can't stop thinking about that watch, if my local shop still has one I may pull the trigger soon...
This watch has a crazy personality disorder...
LOL
Change to a flutted bezel and it’s probably a winner, the non rotating and somewhat contrasting bezel makes it pretty strange
Okay!
How expensive is boxed sapphire, compared to flat or domed?
I think this Seiko Is fabulous 👍 thanks Marc
Different strokes, different folks. Glad you like it and can say it!
I saw this in person and bought regardless of its shortcomings..got the green. It’s beautiful! This watch is for people with a decent collection. Best part I got it as a nice discounted price
Not entirely terrible, but maybe either fluted or smooth bezel options would have been better.
Possible.
Stunningly beautiful visual design. This reminds me of my parents "good china set". Never used it, just sat in the dining room behind glass cabinet doors. Gorgeous but, too expensive ($500+) and delicate (5 ATM).
My first thought was, someone crossed a SARB033 with a Richard LeGrand. Second thought, they got less than the sum of it's inspirations.
That's a shame.
I see a lot of negative comments about the bezel not rotating. Sure it would be nice if it moved but realistically I rarely turn the bezel on any of my other watches. I don't dive but I like to know the watch get damaged when I go out in the rain, so 100m would have been preferred. Having said that the overall appearance is gorgeous and I am very tempted.
wow I have to say I am surprised. I bought the green variant and I love it. One of the most stylish seikos i own.
It's in the "basic" line up for a reason. They're for the average person wanting a good looking mechanical watch. Sensible people who know they'll never go diving 😂😂😂
And 99.999% of Sub owners won't either...but that doesn't mean it shouldn't function as a diver should function.
@@j.s.3414 and they pay $10k for a function they'll never use.
These are a consumer level watch intended for the average Joe. I see not a lot bad about them. I was going to get the blue gilt one until I saw the blue RLG Odyssea and got that instead. I made the right decision except the RLG is a bit small at 39mm. The Seiko 41mm is a better size to be able to appreciate the dial.
I just don't get it with Seiko, they come out with what most people agree is close to the "perfect" watch (SARB033), then discontinue it, then bring out these compromised pieces. What were they thinking?
Does the newer gmt style 60s solve the criticism of the useless bezel on this one? Love the look of the blue presage gmt style 60.
Non rotating bezel and only 5 bar?
No thanks. I'll just wait for the homage that actually has a rotating bezel and 10 bar WR.
Shame... it has such a lovely deep blue color tho, and I love that OG Seamaster aesthetic
Yup.
I really love this watch and was going to get the white one until the new Alpinist came out.
Those are sweet.
Hi Marc, I would like to know a slightly unrelated yet related question to this video.
Since Seiko killed the Skx and Orient constantly killing their watch lines in favour of newer models (like the power reserve Triton for example) I was wondering: I restarted my watch collection, this time with a theme of collecting what I consider the best value options I can find.
I have already bought some and my wife won't let new watches come in for quite a while for good reason since we have more things we want to do with our savings.
So I am wondering if your islander versions will still be around when I get to them or already discontinued because you are on their third iteration already.
I adore some of the current options, and would be sad to see them go prematurely.
I think other than the price, these are some nice watches. I think the thing is they look like dressy tool watches, when they are really tool style dress watches. So it throws you off a little as people tend to appreciate tool watches that look exceptionally nice more than just a watch that plays the role but has less utility than it seems. But they are from the Presage line so, I think they serve their purpose well...sporty but very classy looks. Little actual utility outside of the main purpose of telling time (and date) and looking good while doing it. I do think they are a little over priced for what they are offering but they certainly look good for a more casual dress watch. As it's often said how many of us love our dive watches or even our chronos but never go diving or even in the water with them and rarely use the watch for timing when we can have our cell phone do it. :).
Mark, love the channel, but must disagree. Always wanted a Seiko, but nothing ever appealed to me until the 60s style. Love mine. Thanks for the video.
Nh35 and hardlex. 500+ dollars. no... just no seiko. What is your problem seiko.
Great video though Mark! loving the reviews!
Whats with so many watches not having rotating divers bezels Armatron, Timex, Fossial and now Seiko. I now there are so many watches today with divers bezels that don't rotate. Back in the 2000's and befor most diver bezels did rotate even if they didn't have 200m of water resistant.
Almost bought the GMT version of this watch. I agree it is a beautiful watch and I had the opportunity to put it on my wrist. Unfortunately the print on the chapter ring was so small I couldn’t read the 24hr GMT.
I couldn't really tell--Is it a milled clasp or stamped?
Glad you are giving the weight of the watch.
I agree, pretty disappointing for the price.
Hey Marc, hope all is well with you and yours. Question, would you be interested in making an Islander version of the all Grey dial and lumed bezel of the Davosa Argonautic BG ref # 16152209 ?
Not really, sorry
That price is very, very high I think for what you get. I spent about $720 and bought the higher end 6r35 SARX073 when it was first out. That one comes with a rotating bezel, sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance and 70hr power reserve. That was a much better value. Seiko is charging a lot for their 4r watches.
i have that watch as well and it is a much better value than this one....and it's a limited addition
@@jh-il5sb All true and it is very lovely in person.
Mark, I agree with everything here 100%. I'm just not sure what Seiko is doing with this watch. It seems really expensive for the specifications, and the design just doesn't make sense. Is it a divers watch? No it's not. Is it a dress watch? I don't think so. Just don't know where this watch is going. But great video appreciate it.
Thanks Lyman.
Hi Mark, what about the 140th anniversary editions? Do you think it’s worth the limited edition mantras?
I was born on 1976 also. What do you recommend as a watch for your birth year?
"I always try to be as honest as possible" Marc. That's reassuring 🤣
I love the way this watch looks and would've gladly paid extra for a rotating bezel. I could have used this thing to time my eggs or parking meter, etc. We desk divers have needs too, Seiko!
I hope they reuse this dial in a smaller, non bezel case. In that configuration, I think it makes much more sense
An affordable everyday time piece from Seiko that could be your very first watch to purchase if getting into collecting!
I like it
If you think this is affordable ($400,- NO usability other than telling the time), you might as well get a Daniel Wellington for "only" $250,-...
If they'd ditched the bezel, sized the case to 38-39 mm, added another two micro-adjusts and dropped the MSRP a bit, it could have been another sarb033-like success.
Hi i have suggestion pls, can you change your dial logo? Use something like "long island" or "islander" in a classic font. It will give an art vibe to your (on our also) watches. Its good balance becoz most of your watches are utilitarian. That round logo is perfect for crown though. And 1 thing, pls. Keep display case back if possible for some watches (ie. That oyster perpetual look) theres a lot of people who wants to see their watch's heart beating. Pretty sure it will help your sales also. Thank you very much
I had such high hopes for this watch the blue one looks stunning! Now I’m not so sure. Thanks for your honesty Marc I’m not sure if to get it or not?
I think you can tell the time in the dark. 12 marker is a bit bigger, and I think the 3 o'clock marker is not in line. You can use it for orientation.
.
If only Seiko put 1-12 markers on that bezel instead, it would be better. Maybe that would be a nice and cheap mod.
Why am i not surprised?
Non-functional bezel

Wtf two hole adjustable bracelet???
550 USD
Blue one might be great to match with a brown strap though.
It would :)
What watches would you suggest in the $400-$800 range?
Ok, so the bezel doesn't rotate. Be honest: when was the last time you used the bezel on your dive watch to time anything? Personally, I never have. As long as you recognize that you aren't supposed to dive with this watch, I think it should serve anyone just fine.
I get that. I also never use my bezel for anything. But at that price, it BETTER function, whether I plan on using it or not. If you're gonna make it fixed, that's fine.... but reduce the price to make up for it.
Alan... You really need to start. (Somebody back me up pls.) The rotating bezel is the most elegant and useful innovation in horology after central sweep seconds. Don't you ever time things? Honestly, I use it multiple times a day. (No irony here.)
That immobilized bezel is a horror. (Why don't they just paint the seconds hand on the dial. UGH!)
If its there, and it looks like it should rotate, then it should rotate?
@@islandwatch I would like to see rotating bezels incorporated into many more non-diver watches. They could then be friction bi-directional bezels, which would be more useful to time non-critical events like diving. Stealthy too. You could set the bezel on your dress watch to time the sermon at Mass on Sunday very quietly.
"Be honest: when was the last time you used the bezel on your dive watch to time anything?"
My answer is : FREQUENTLY, for everything from elapsed time navigational problems to cooking. Even at work I will use it to mark time budgeted work periods. I love that functionality, but don't think that is the point witht this watch.
I do like the classy look of that Seiko.
I do too, its lacking on features.
I love the look of these and was so close to ordering one ... until I saw the specs! They coulda knocked this out of the park on the look, but ouch on 50m.
Love that old chrono, btw!!
What's worse? 50M or bogus bezel?
@@islandwatch 50m for sure! Limits my ability to be carefree and wear it anywhere whenever. The bezel at least looks nice and marks the minutes (even if it can't time anything). Thanks for another great video, btw!
@@GinkgoJoe you dive beyond 50m?
A colleague of mine who was never into watches bought this watch because he liked the look of my omega seamaster 300. They are very similar looking. He had asked me to find something very close and he chose this one. He enjoys it a lot. So much so he bought a new model monster. The penguin one with the darker dial. Yeah it maybe isn't a tool watch but even my speedmasters I have never used the chrono function once. My seamasters have never dived once. As long as you enjoy it that's what matters.
Build quality is excellent and it keeps great time. He told me 7 seconds a day fast.
Arent non rotating bezels actually the way to go, who uses bezels anyway??
Bought one last week, and while I do think the non rotating bezel is a bit of a letdown, its still imo a beautiful piece. Dial is sublime, hands look great, and the bezel looks beautiful ad wel. I got it on sale for 480, so I'm not complaining.
Is Seiko kinda going down that fashion watch route, where all they pay attention to is desing? I know many people liked that Seiko 5 diver but it was just a watered down version of the SKX, where took out all the features and only cared about looks. Same with this watch
Your review wasn't really very negative. I was expecting you to really blast the Presage. Now I need to look and see if you have reviewed any Grand Seikos.
GS does use box sapphire crystals.
The non screw-down crown is a feature not a bug on an automatic dress watch that isn’t going to be worn while swimming. The scratch prone crystal gives me pause at this price-point though.
Mark, could you please design a watch like these pressage srpg’s????😮
So when are we getting an islander version of this watch and see them blow Seiko out the water
Love the look, but thought the exact same. Need more water resistance I think it’s ok that the bezel doesn’t rotate but for the price it seems like a lot
Marc is spot on. I'm not sure what the heck Seiko is trying to do anymore, which bums me out since I loved the brand so much. Their prices continue to soar and the quality and features do not improve. Aside from the name, you're missing so many features that other brands are including at lower prices. Hardlex? 50M WR? Two positions for micro-adjust? Non rotating pseudo bezel? No thanks, I'll stick to my Casios and Orients. I think the SARB033 I picked up 5 years ago will be my last Seiko if this continues.
Prices are going up across the entire economy. When inflation is driving price increases, you won't be able to expect additional value for the money, because the money is less valuable.
This watch does not need a rotating bezel because it is neither a GMT nor a diver. The bezel is purely an aesthetic factor and, from this point of view, they hit the spot because the watch is beautiful, especially the reference with a dark green dial and olive green bezel.
To me, a rotating bezel is useless. I never use it. The moving minute hand is all I need to time anything. Just some quick basic math. I do like the look of the bezels though. The fact it's stationary on this watch is a bonus. One less moving part.
