  • Cylinders that are too cold and a kit to keep you flying. This month Mike, Paul, and Colleen address engines being euthanized far too young, cylinder head temps that start with a 1, how to assemble a kit to avoid being stranded, and slipping alternator belts on the C182.

Had this problem on the same engine on a 182, Fixed after many trys. On the adjustnment arm there should be a pin sticking out the side over the top of the belt. On ours it was missing. Ordered one installed it and fixed the belt jumping off.

If I remember correctly, this added pen above the belt is not on every Cessna installation on the 182, but you can order the pin and you should be able to install it on the arm. Again that fixed our problem of the belt, jumping off after changing an alternator.

For Will with low CHTs, its odd to have all them read low, but I had one bayonet CHT probe read 60F lower than all my others on my IO360, but would read the same as the others when the engine was cold. I put that same probe and another in boiling water and it was way off low....interesting the other probe never read 212F in boiling water - it was about 200. Changed out the low probe with a new one and its now the "same" as the others. Ergo - esp since your oil temp is good, test out your probes as see if theyre not "curved" right at high temps.

Great Show! Agree with the comment below. I use an engine heater when it gets down to about 45 F or so.

Appreciate the podcast - but would be awesome if you could indicate the time stamp for each of the topics mentioned in the summary - so we can get right to the topic that is of specific interest. Unfortunately, many of us rarely have the time to watch an entire 50+ minute video - especially if we are just interested in a specific issue mentioned in the summary.

Sounds like the guy with the low CHTs is reading C and not F.
