    It's interesting how history repeats itself. When SUVs were emerging in the 90s, Honda hadn't done any meaningful R&D on their own SUV platform, so they borrowed one from GM (Isuzu) and called it the Passport. Here were are again, just replace SUV with EV.

      Except the Isuzu Trooper was a great off-roader. It was a very solid vehicle…and being honest, Honda simply rebadged it.

    • @AsAngelsFall221
      @AsAngelsFall221 Před 6 měsíci +35

      The two above me have no idea about how bad the Passport/Rodeo and SLX/Trooper were for Honda in the 90s. Isuzu engines were EXTREMELY prone to oil leaks, the bodies rusted at a higher rate than their Honda built counterparts, and they got ZERO support from Honda once the 2000s hit. There is a very big reason why you still see 4Runners and even Pathfinders and Monteros, rather than seeing Rodeos and Troopers and their Honda rebadges. That same misguidedness is what will cause this to fail. EVs are already not selling and sitting on lots, these will pile up on lots and the few who do buy them will suffer for it. Everyone I worked with at Acura quit right before this thing came out, including the master technician trained for it who had been with the dealer almost 20 years. That should tell you something...

Even if a gas vehicle gets like 25 mpg, youd have to drive 83,333 miles at $3/gallon just to break even on the price difference. And yeah you have oil changes and other mechanical maintenance, but you also have to pay for electricity (barring home solar, I guess). It just doesn't make sense for most of these vehicles. Honda were also major partners of British Leyland in the late '70s and early 80s, for example the triumph acclaim was a rebadged Honda Accord (or Civic?) in the early 80s for the UK market. And the Sterling 825 and 827 in the US (also badged as the rover 800 series in the UK) were Acura Legends. The Acura legend for every market outside of the US and Japan was actually manufactured in a British Leyland factory

    "It's not easy being green" sang the famous frog. "It's not easy working with GM" is the song that many others sang when working with GM. I have heard this song from other partner companies including Toyota, Isuzu and consultants. It was a familiar song in GM overseas operations in Opel in Germany, Holden In Australia, Vauxhall in England and their Latin and Asia Pacific operations. It would have been a difficult cultural journey for Honda to develop with GM. The product outcome tells a story whose final chapter will be written in sales.

    I think this is easily the best looking EV SUV on the market now. No gimmicky tryhard future styling that will look dated in 5 years, just a simple handsome design. As a Honda fan myself I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed at the decision to partner with GM, but hopefully they hold up well while we wait to see what the dedicated Honda EVs look like

    I am an automotive engineer of over 20 years. I worked for a Honda Assembly plant and Honda R&D. I subsequently worked for a GM assembly plant and had stints working at GM world HQ. I can tell you from having a full understanding and experience with both manufacturing and design cultures, this is an utter disaster and ticking timebomb waiting to happen. Both companies are complete polar opposite when it comes down to design philosophy, manufacturing ethics, supplier base management and soforth... Honda carrying the proactive mindset of Continual improvement, Kaizen etc.... While GM being the build it and worry about it later, fighting fires mindset.... Also, GMs workforce are union led, with quality and pride placed below workers compensation and security of jobs. Honda on the otherhand is an entrenched culture of quality and pride.... I see nothing but quality and workmanship issues for this vehicle coming from GM and subsequently Honda will have a hard time having GM own up to these issues.... I predict this partnership not lasting more than 5 years, the Prologue ranking last in JD power IQS surveys.... this is the worst partnership in sometime.... I cant wrap my head around a Honda product built along the same assy line as the Chevy Blazer and Equinox.... Do you think union workers will put care in assembling a vehicle with a foreign nameplate? Absolutely not..... Its a SAD time for Honda.... soo sad

      I am but an outsider, but it seems to me your Honda experience must have been pre-2016ish. Their quality has absolutely nosedived, the marketing and finance people seem to be running the operation, and they have turned a cold shoulder to their customers who are increasingly having major, widespread failures of major components just out of warranty. 1990s Honda, this ain't.

    $60K tells the audience everything we need to know. The actual market for CUV EVs is $40K for a loaded model. The OEMs have got to stop listening to focus groups in DC, NY and CA on what is “affordable”.
