- I installed the KB diesel upper intake on the shop 6.5L diesel and it runs great! Better throttle response and I noticed it has a bit more pep in its step now that the air flow is no longer restricted with a stock upper!

Nice video. BTW I just dropped the price in half on my Turbo Boost Bolts and Fuel Pressure Taps
I may need to work on getting a fuel pressure tap. That’s one part I don’t have for the truck yet!
@@gingersnapcustoms I have a new program you would be perfect for. When you buy a part from me and do a video on it I'll refund $10. See website for details under my "accessories" page look for my Social media referral program. Basically you'd get the FPT for $5!
I'm in...
Well done! Like the fact that you are showing the install rather than just saying what needs to be done.
Doing my best to wrench with one hand and film with the other!
Awesome to see! I was really curious to see the drive pressure difference from stock intake! Can't wait to see where it goes from here with the Chinese hx, keep it up man !
So as it stands now...
stock turbo wheel and intake 10psi boost 21 drive
Wicked wheel with stock intake 10psi boost 18psi drive
Wicked wheel with upper intake 10psi boost is 14-16psi drive pressure.
Over all the upper intake did the most damage and helped give that turbo a chance to free flow a bit better!
I love your objective data driven approach to these mods. Keep em coming!!
More to come soon! Possibly a lift pump swap depending on how bad I want to freeze in the garage this evening.
i know I am kinda off topic but do anyone know a good site to stream new movies online?
@Andy Hank Lately I have been using FlixZone. Just search on google for it =)
Great videos.
Great information! Thank you sir.
No problem buddy!
Thanks for posting. What gauge were you using to measure drive pressure?
I think that’s normal for a CDR system. I think its literally always open sucking any blow by and crank case gases
When the valves fail that’s pretty much it. I’ve replaced them in the past and noticed it really does help cut down on blow by.
Where did you put your boost line on the new setup?
I cut off a boost bolt from Leroy diesel to work with the new upper intake and just used a thread die to clean it up (should be M8x1.25. Gauges are autometer. Intake itself is KBDiesel performance
Hello, what is drive pressure? I’ve been around diesels. I have never heard of this term. Can you educate? Thanks
The amount of exhaust pressure required to drive a turbo. In most cases you want an equal pressure on the intake and exhaust side of the head in order to keep it cooler and run more efficiently. If you run double the exhaust pressure to boost that often causes high cylinder temps and pressure causing head gasket failure
What are the dimensions roughly of the stock GM3 turbo? I'm pulling one of these for my 4 cylinder turbo build but not sure if i will have physical space to mount. Rough length x height would be very helpful. Thanks!
I unfortunately don’t have a stock one to measure. I can ask around see who does?
Do you think with a few spacers that a person could put the plastic intake cover back on after this install
It will go back on with I believe 2.5” worth of spacers. I personally don’t run them because the plastic just holds heat.
@@gingersnapcustoms okay I was wondering I figure it would hold heat but I do not like the way it looks without it lol
Have you ever had a leaking feuler housing to leak out back of the intake valley.thanks.
Yep. It’s normally the O ring in the bottom or the fuel line is loose.
@@gingersnapcustoms thanks for your help here. Its all new to me. Great input now I now where to start. Thank-you very much.
Currently doing the same setup on my 93 but using a 4 inch intake as well. Just to see if it helps even more
I checked with 4” and saw less than a 1 degree temp difference. The lower plenum becomes the bottle neck at that point
If you don't mind me asking. Which upper intake would you suggest to buy, quadstar or kb diesel performance? Looks like kB diesel is cheaper and to ship to Canada.
I’ve run both. Both are good. But I would go with the KBDiesel one since it’s been a good addition to the last two trucks I’ve worked on.
@@gingersnapcustoms You are awesome! Thank you again
@@blackincawston no problem! Hopefully you can get one ordered and install it here soon!
@@gingersnapcustoms hi there, what year is your truck? Did you get the upper intake with ports?
@@blackincawston this was a 92. I also have my white 99. 94-2000 you need the intake with ports. Hope that helps.
Why did you cut the boost bolt down? Will they not fit unless cut ?
You have to cut the bolt otherwise you have 40mm sticking out the top and there’s no clamping force.
@@gingersnapcustoms ok thank you just wanted to double check before ordering everything
@@josholson4285 no problem
Is it 3inch inner diameter?
Yes indeed it is.
do i have to loosen up the turbo to install the kb diesel or quadstar upper intake?
Just the cover for the Quadstar intake. The KB diesel intake you don’t have to touch the turbo.
@@gingersnapcustomsin the video you loosened up the turbo because the pipe was to tall so i don't need to loosen it just give it a slight bend? ill be installing the kb diesel intake in a few days
@@diyautomotive4750 I loosened the snail to show how to clock it for either intake. I do it to all of them out of habit anymore with how the Quadstar ones fit. You can get away without it on KBD. But if the angle seems steep loosen the nuts and just clock it some
@@gingersnapcustoms do you have to remove the old gasket before putting on the new one and how did you cut the boost bolt?
@@diyautomotive4750 you do need a new gasket. I rub it down with a rag full of brake clean before I scrape it off.
Boost bolt I bought an M8x1.25 tap. Run the tap up the bolt. Measure 30mm of threads. Then cut the bolt with a chop saw.
Where do you put the EGT probe?
Just below the t3 flange in the turbo side manifold
@@gingersnapcustoms thanks!
@@Desertjoe789 I want to say in the passenger side glow plug video I show where the probes are. Or the drive pressure video.
I just loosen 6 bolts in back of the turbo and that allows me to clock it upwards?
Correct
@@gingersnapcustoms ok lastly do I loosen the bolts on the snail turbo or on the exhaust side? Is it the 6 bolts behind turbo on the turbo itself?
@@stevebuttrum only on the snail side.
@@gingersnapcustoms thank you so much
which one is better quadstar tuning or kb diesel i see they both sell the upper intake upgrade
I tested both and saw no difference between the two. I like the KB diesel one because I can pop the charge tube off and work on anything in the engine bay without having to remove the whole upper intake.
@@gingersnapcustoms thanks for the reply ill be doing this upgrade soon will i have to modify and cut the glowshift boost bolt for it to work?
Yes you will need to cut the boost bolt.
@@gingersnapcustoms what kind of rtv did you use? also what torque spec for the 6 bolts ?
@@diyautomotive4750 torque spec is 18lb-ft. I use just a dab of ultra black on the center from and center rear

Hi there, would you know where one can buy the hose?
Which hose would you be inquiring about?
@@gingersnapcustoms sorry I meant the red pipping
It is all from KBDiesel. I bought the black upper intake hat and red piping from them.
@@gingersnapcustoms ahh ok. Thank you🙏
If you don't mind me asking, did you notice difference in power from stock?
Where did you get red piping
KBDiesel
@@gingersnapcustoms dang sold out
@@patrickmayernik6981 this one is in the box and cleaned up. If you need it. I might part ways with it.
Really just not working out ?
@@patrickmayernik6981 sold the truck and took a lot of the parts off. It was bought for the video series.
Difficult to understand you when under hood. Impossible to understand when on test drive. Need better mike and speak clearly!!
