I seen one video where it said I had to align the holes a certain way the back
@@rodgergraham357 I normally put them to the back but I’ve never seen anywhere that specifies where they should point. I guess I’ll have to look into that.
what is required to do this turbo swap? I may have to replace mine soon and I don't know what to buy for a relatively stock engine. I am putting a 4 in exhaust on my 93 6.5 and I am getting some oil through my turbo into the intake. I swapped oil cooler lines, put new starter, battery, plugs, block heater etc. in it when I bought it. Just trying to get it reliable by winter and I am not super familiar with turbo troubleshooting. Is that a sign of a bad turbo? I don't of have great oil pressure either... but I am not really low on oil. Just trying to learn about these because it is has been a great truck so far.
@@kadenspurgeon6332 that’s a sign of a bad CDR valve. The turbo is most likely just fine.
Can you comment about your CDR setup? It looks like you installed some kind of oil catch - any videos describing that?
@@alexanderwolfe9167 somewhere I have a video on it. I have an album on the Facebook page showing what it is. That came from Quadstar tuning and it was one of their catch can setups we tried out.
@@gingersnapcustoms Thanks! I found your video. Do you think the catch can helps keeping turbo/intake clean? My intake line between turbo and intake is all oily. The outside of the turbo compressor is oily as well.
@@alexanderwolfe9167 I’ve found a clean CDR valve does just as good as the catch can honestly.
GS- Looked on rockauto for the balancer and pulley. They don't list AC Delco but have an ATP Greywerks HB and pulley. Any opinion on quality? 1994 Chevy, K3500 4 WD, 6.5 turbo. Also, should I be able to see a actual wobble on the HB? Is it visually apparent without measuring or just unbalanced? TIA. The engine vibration seems pretty extreme.
@@yojimbos1 Delco doesn’t offer them anymore. Dorman bought them out and so I tend to use those instead of the other off brands. You’ll be able to see the balancer wobble and shake along with notice the materials deteriorated. If engine vibration is that bad I would really check fuel pressure from the lift pump because limited fuel pressure will cause the injection pump to do some funky stuff.
@@gingersnapcustoms Thanks. Swapping that out in the AM. Fuel supply looked weak when I cracked the fuel petcock.
GS- another helpful tutorial. Your other with engine out of the truck gave the idea but done in place breaks it down well. Glad the radiator can stay.
I came here because I heard sheep. In other critters in the background
@@heavenlysheephugshuggingfo1505 farm living is the life for us around here!
@@gingersnapcustoms yes sir
GS Best source for a stock harmonic balancer and pulley? Only options I'm finding for HB is a fluid one for $550, pulley an additional $150.
@@yojimbos1 stock balancer and pulley can be dorman from whichever auto parts store is best near you.
GS- Very interesting. The knock is present at idle but quieter. Gonna pull the belt and check for wobble o the balancer/ balancer pulley. Saw you had a tutorial on that, will be looking at it after belt. Hoping it shows what to look for in diagnosing component failure. Just wobble/cracks?
@@yojimbos1 the vac pump will click or knock when the bearings go bad. The balancer and balancer pulley will have cracks or separation. If the noise is coming back through the air box of the engine and is a hard knock you might have broken a rocker arm retainer clip. Also leaking return lines can cause fuel knock along with low lift pump pressure and clogged fuel filters.
GS- Thanks for the fast response. Up to my ears in wrenching learning curve [never did injectors before] and posting a you tube wasn't on todays schedule but will look into it. This noise was very sudden not gradual. CZcams research on the issue indicated possible harmonic balancer, but a few local diesel guys first response was fuel knock [though they were on the phone and hadn't heard the noise just my description]. Can't get any of the CL mobile "mechanics" to even show up for good money just to diagnose so I'm on my own. Glad I've found your tutorials. Plan is to crack each injector and see if the noise goes away. I'm told that's the most reliable diagnostic. My concern is running the engine with this noise to do that- don't want to do more potential damage. Ah well, maybe get lucky. After all, what's the worse that could happen [he wondered]. Again, thanks, will let you know how it goes.
@@yojimbos1 if it started quickly without any pre weirdness I would pull the belt off and check out your vac pump and your harmonic balancer/balancer pulley. Fuel knock on these comes and goes and normally not noticed at idle. The vac pump and balancer you’ll hear at any RPM.
GS- great stuff. Bad new noise am told it's a fuel knock and need to swap out injectors. Beyond my pay grade. Do you have a video covering this? How about a good manual reference? 1994 Chevy 6.5 1 ton, 4 WD, auto. TIA. Also asked this in a more recent thread.
@@yojimbos1 I don’t have a video going injectors yet. I showed it in one of the head gasket videos but I can’t remember which one (too many other things going on). All you need is the injector socket and an install kit. Turbo can stay on. I use the Haynes manual for 6.2/6.5 diesels personally and it’s been great. If you have a bad noise I wouldn’t say fuel knock since it doesn’t really happen in these unless you get an injector locked closed. Try taking a short and posting it on CZcams.
GS- Not many know the 6.5s that well. Do you have a video on replacing injectors? No great wrench myself. Do I need to remove the turbo or can the passenger side be done without removal? I don't have a FB account. 1994 6.5 Chevy 1 ton, 4W Automatic mostly stock. I'm told the bad new noise is a fuel knock injectors original 180K on truck. Sorry for the hijacked thread but hoped the most current video release would catch your attention. TIA.

Pretty much what I'll be doing to the 95 k2500 Burb I just bought. Going to be setting her up to be my camping/ tow rig/ backup winter rig. Letting her breathe correctly and making sure maintenance items are up to date. That'll be after I replace the head gaskets since it has a blown one since it had a stock turbo pushing slighy higher boost in a otherwise stock configuration. Has a heath tune at least for now too which might not have helped. At least I bought her for dirt cheap, only paid $560 for her and everything else appears intact. Limped her over to my buddies, and she didn't even try to overheat. Ran normal operating temps and pretty much stayed right at 200 on the guage, which isn't the most accurate thing.
@@PNW_K5DIESEL for what you paid for it you’ll have a lot of road ahead of you to improve and fix her up!
@gingersnapcustoms I know I do, but it seems to have a solid base, so it should be worth it. Honestly, most of the cost had to do with how rough the interior is, with a lot of it being that a lot of the rear interior pieces are off. which may come in handy for designing things for storage and whatnot for camping. It's funny because one of my buddies has a k2500 suburban diesel, too, which happens to be a 95 as well. He's setting his up similar as well.
@@PNW_K5DIESEL long ago I built my brother a 96 k2500 6.5 burb and we loved it. It’s definitely one of my all time favorite vehicles to drive and use!
@gingersnapcustoms I can see why. Even with the head gasket issue and me being really careful, she still wanted to scoote right along. Now I'm just going to be setting her up better to help her last and be efficient.

10 psi per 1k RPM is what I’ve lived by. Got a BBC 454 with 8-10 psi at idle when warm, no issues
40psi of oil pressure at idle (regardless of weight) Is actually not beneficial to the motor. It makes the engine work harder and is wasted HP.
@@masegauntt9085 the issue I was having was that the digital gauge was reading 0 psi at idle and 25 max when cold. I knew something wasn’t right which is why I did the mechanical gauge to verify. It’s definitely making more than it needs which was a genuine surprise since this engine has given me issues more than once over the years.

Old sacked out 6.5 I had would suck the boot shut on intake side of turbo.
I have that flowmaster on my 2000 Chevrolet Z 71. Pretty quiet until you give it some gas, then the deep rumble kicks in. Absolutely no drone noise in the cab. With the deep rumble hitting the throttle, it sounds authoritative when getting on it. Perfect for my taste. I did try out 4 different tips while at the muffler shop, the mechanic was cool and let me hear them until I was satisfied. I ended up going with dual 4” megs to get it deep and louder. Been satisfied ever since with that setup. I didn’t run them turned out, behind the tire. I ran straight pipe all the way just under the bumper.😊

I replaced and relocated the PMD. Nothing. Unplugged optical sensor, nothing. It just turns over endlessly. Won’t star. Also tried to jump the glow plug relay. Nothing. Just turns over.
@@busdriver4571 that’s the injection pump being too far out of time from someone changing it before you. Or the pump itself has failed. The crank position sensor won’t fix that. I started making a no start guide but I never had a chance to finish it.
