I continue to use the set of Craftsman mechanics tools that I purchased in 1970. I love them! I have replaced the 10mm socket a few times (I think they go to the same place as missing socks).
My wife, when we were still dating, gave me a Craftsman socket set 42 years ago. It's still going strong.
@@philliprickman1394 As is the marriage. Smart woman! AND you are a smart guy for asking her to marry you. 👍
Yep, all sockets, socks, and ets.. think about it, and I’d bet you’ve never even seen an ets.
That theory is gold! Cheers
I had to buy that exact socket the other day. I bought 2 of them lol
@@thomasleach9417 Smart! 🧐
"180 tooth" is probably just a dual-pawl with a 90 tooth gear. The 144 tooth husky ratchets are built with a 72 tooth gear and a dual-pawl to get 144 tooth engagements per rotation.
Yep. Still interesting that Craftsman is introducing it. Taiwan tools are gtg.
Absolutely love how Craftsman is making moves to fix the brand. Sad to see the US plant not make it, but they gave it an honest effort. More than I can say about other brands.
They really didn't give it an honest effort. They should have said.. "Hey, we are having issues with manufacturing so we'll be delaying putting out our USA made tools."
Then just produce what they can at the plant until the manufacturing kinks are worked out. Even if its just USA socket sets.
Then the US govt needs to impose a damn tariff on cheap chinese made handtools that the chinese govt subsidizes to have dumped in the USA at below cost pricing that manufacturers here can't compete with. Its why I won't buy "Made in China" hand tools. Ever. Taiwan, I'll consider if the quality is there but even those tools aren't cheap because Taiwan has really stepped up their game as they want to be known for their quality. Not quantity.
@@nathans3022any recommendations of hand tools from Taiwan? I never thought of looking for them…
I have a bunch of my grandpa’s old Craftsman sockets, wrenches, ratchets and screwdrivers. They’re from probably the 70’s. The wrenches might be older. I love them and use them regularly.
Very cool - but I'm skeptical of Craftsman. I'm still salty at how Sears handled the brand from back in the early 00s. I know, I know Sears isn't even involved in them any more but my salt remains.
It goes back farther than that, for me.
Myself included.
Seeing Sears sell off Craftsman to the Chinese gave me a low-grade nausea that will never go away.
I still love to see my old Craftsman tools with the "USA" stamped into them........... (sigh).
Yeah, I worked for them when they were sold out. It was a rough ride downhill. They did a lot of people dirty.
@@philliprickman1394 I'm curious: what did you do for them? I didn't know they employed anyone who knew English.
I bought craftsman digital torque wrenches this year from sears online.
As someone who got screwed over by Chinese made Craftsman, I won't give them a chance until the hand tools come back to AT LEAST using US made forgings.
My dad was a service person at an air port for all their heavy equipment, he bought all Craftsman tools in the 60’s and 70’s. He replaced a few as needed over the years. Before he passed away he handed me everything he had, three full tool carts on wheels of craftsman tools. I’ve used the crap out of them for 40 years and they are still in fine condition. I had to replace a few in that 40 years form normal use. I’m 60 now, when my day comes to leave this world and enter the next world my son will get all three carts of Craftsman tools. That will be three generations using my dads Craftsman tools. It saddens me America can’t make tools that last three generations like the old Craftsman tools.
Yep, agree with you totally, grew up with Craftsman, I'm a fan and will always be. Wish they were still US made. Great videos!!!
I sure love how good the gunmetal stuff looks. Wish they made ratcheting wrenches in that variety
If you are talking about the blackened chrome then yes they do have a existing set that has a socket set and matching ratchet, also it seemed to me that the set in question in this video was also all matching in the same finish
@@haydnmiller5306 I have sockets and a ratchet and regular end wrenches that are all gunmetal. They don’t make ratcheting wrenches that are gunmetal
the overdrive tools look a little darker than the gunmetal. I have both. the overdrive feel like they weigh more.
There’s lots of gunmetal ratchets, just gotta know where to look.
@@bass4life294 not ratchet. Ratcheting wrench
180 tooth ratchets? Craftsman should introduce this line during SHARK WEEK.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I’VE WANTED. I’ll wait to see TTC test them against the RBRT stuff, but with MAC R/D at the helm, idk why they wouldn’t make specialty mechanic sets like these 🤷♂️
They are. It's these.
Craftsman is to Mac as Ridgid is to Milwaukee, only it doesn't get dropped like rigid support
Well, hell. I bought a big Craftsman toolbox about 2 years ago because a) it was made in Sedalia, MO, my new home state since fleeing CA b) Lowes had a good sale on it c) it was good enough for my purposes.
This stuff looks great and I’m happy to see it. I have that “old time” good feeling for Craftsman stuff, too, even though they don’t always deserve it anymore.
Thanks 👍 for the breaking news Jeff. Leave it up to you to introduce us to the newest tools. You rock! 😊😊😊
The sockets and wrenches look like they are supposed to mimic snap on flank drive, hopefully they work as well as them considering they are a fraction of the price. Kinda seems to me they are trying to get it out there that they can service more than just the average homeowner
I like the wood top on the Craftsman box. I can do more on top of that than anything else and replace it pretty cheap when I need to. Price is a bit high though at first glance. I’m going to have to see it in a store and check it out before thinking about buying one. I’m going to pull the trigger on a new box at the end of the year and I was waiting on the US General series 3 56” box.
5:19 back in July the store in El Paso tx had 3 of these. Boy oh boy they look really nice. The wood top really stumped me
Okay, I went over to Lowes and I found a ratchet set made in USA for $70. It is a 1/4 and 3/8" metric SAE 88 pc. Hell, almost like 3 buckets of chicken for that price!
Project Farm tests on ratchets make me think this thing is going to be horribly weak and constantly breaking at 180 teeth. I'll bet you anything this thing is 2x90 tooth ratchet gears offset so you technically have 1/2 the surface strength of a typical 90 tooth pawl. But if it really is 180 tooth ratchet gear and pawl it'll strip out or slip under the lightest of loads so I kinda highly doubt that. Either scenario is bad news for whoever buys it. It makes me think Craftsman is doing the Dewalt/Black and Decker thing where they name their 18v (nominal) tool lines a dishonest 20v for maximum voltage to make people think they're getting more than the 5x3.6v packs they're actually getting inside their packs. For example, is your car battery 12v or is it 13v battery? If you ask Stanley its a 13v car battery because maximum voltage is 12.6v rounded to the nearest whole makes 13v. If they made car batteries they'd sell them as 13v and you'd buy them because 13v is more than 12v which makes them "more better". Its all 100% marketing and I suspect Craftsman is letting their marketing department design their tools for them at 180 teeth. Doesn't matter how well it works just so long as it does and has twice as many teeth because thats what customers believe makes tools better.
The Lowe's in my town has the full line. I got the 11 piece metric wrench set today 💯
If they continue improving themselves they can definitely earn back the consumer trust it's just going to take time
I totally grew up with Craftsman so I can relate. I bought one of their Pro Series with ball-bearing glides, top box when I was in college 1996 or so. I think it cost $900 for me that was a massive amount of Jack at the time. Still have it.
The sockets and wrenches look very much like a Facom product to me but I didn’t think they have production in Taiwan.
Maybe you got some bad info. My local lowes is discounting the old made in Taiwan ratchet sets to make room for the new made in USA stuff that is already on the shelves. If I didn’t see it with my own eyes I wouldn’t believe it. Long Island New York location.
They had a great opportunity with the plant in Texas.
Hoping they release a V2 work bench. Finally was ready to buy one and every single store within my region is out of stock.
Stanley has been producing great boxes with the Proto name for a while now,as long as these boxes are 18 gauge or thicker then the price is right..
Just looked, and can't find the Craftsman overdrive sets anywhere online. Any idea when they'll launch in South East?
It's a dual pawl ratchet system like gearwrench 120xp and a Mac RBRT/USAG.
Those wrenches look alot like the Mac Tools RBRT wrenches and the sockets look like their Precision Torque line of sockets
All the craftsman wrench and socket sets are on sale here in central Texas Lowes by pretty decent margins. I don't buy unless I am getting a REALLY good deal and the 200+ kits are $80 to $100 off. A lot of the single ratchets are also discounted. The 1/2 in drive 120 tooth is $44.95 to $29.95... yeah I probably should of bought it, but it seems like they are clearing way for new stuff before this christmas.
I grew up with Craftsman tools myself, and 98% of my home tools are Craftsman, even my toolbox. My professional line of tools for commercial diesel are 99% Matco with a small mix of Pittsburgh, Hercules, Milwaukee, Klutch, and Snap-on. Matco tools are mostly made in Taiwan and those tools are a beast.
I prefer USA made tools but the ones made In Tawian aren't bad,
LOL, quite clearly Stanley..... is going all in with this design which has been the Mac Precision Torque design for years. And the box end design is akin to the RBRT wrenches from Mac
so long as it's not made in China then I'm interested; would love to see some in depth reviews on the V series cabinets
I guess time will tell if I will give them a second chance. 90% of my tools are Craftsman from the 80's and 90's. I always loved them and I still use them everyday. The last set of wrenches I bought from Craftsman, maybe 10 years ago were the worst junk I've ever seen and I have not bought anything from them since. And the fact that they made it difficult to return broken tools, that just turned me off.
This looks insane hopefully they sell the tools separately too
Need to make a locking flex head ratchet
That misting cooling fan would be great for me down in Florida 😂
I think wrenches and sockets are more of a specialty type tool, not a everyday type. Especially if the ridges could damage fasteners.
180 tooth, I wonder how fine they are and just strong they would be to really last any kind of use
I did a video of the V series tool box. It's actually a really nice box, very well made. It feels better than the US General boxes.
How about you doing a segment about DELTA machine parts and where to get them, I desperately need to know.
Everything socket related craftsman at my lowes is on clearance for 75% off. Was wondering why. Makes sense
I love my Craftsman tools, I just hate having to walk into Lowes to buy them.
Are they out on the market now where can you pick them up. This is one awesome video God bless brother
I like this and it looks great to me. I have some interest in the top as the end edge does not match the grain of the top, so I say it looks like a vinyl wrap, maybe not, I would have to see it up close. jb
I've had to take back a deepwell impact socket set 3 times. All i was doing was changing the leafspings on my jeep. I finished the job with plan deepwells from harbor freight. Craftsman sucks now.
I MISS THE BEAR.
I WOULD LIKE An indexing ratchet from craftsman
Perhaps those hard to get Mid Length sockets
The ratchets look like they are serviceable too....I saw 2 screw heads on the ratchets on the case.....And these technically have to be 90 tooth ratchets with a staggered pawl for the 180 tooth effect......Price seams a little steep but maybe they'll drop in price.
Gearwrench 120 is apparently 60 tooth with 2 pawls - allowing 120 positions
🤞 This looks like a good reset.
90 degree gear X 2 pawls = 180 teeth.
I hope they update their 3 speed impact driver soon and add some new v20 tools.
Hey Bear. I'm confused about which mini hand held chainsaws are worth the cash.
you cant get individual wrenches or sockets though.
Notice the Copyright in 2022 so maybe this was in the works for a while.
That looks like the Mac PT sockets.
I actually bought a set, they are super nice. the ratchet is really smooth.
How about the sockets ?
@@JosepGee their cold rolled steel. I changed my breaks with it and they worked fine. I had no idea these were leaked early, I just saw them and bought them on a whim.
Does increasing the number of teeth make ratchets more likely to break under high torque?
Kind of the eternal question. Less larger vs more smaller... Just look at velcro.
@@denoftools Thanks for the reply! 🤗
Have you seen the new EGO Mini-bike, Jeff? Kind a cool! Great video, Thanks for sharing.
I still have a full collection of their hand tools and ratchets. All are hand me downs from my father and grandfather.
My heart is with Craftsman, but my drawers are filling with Milwaukee...
That square socket would have saved me so many times that I worked on my angled driveway. I am going to get their new impacts sockets and might swap my old sockets for the squares in pack out trays.
I haven't seen the new boxes at the stores here yet. I know you are a big old school craftsman fan... The only box of theirs I still have left was one I bought in the early 90s and honestly the new ones are better... The slides are 100x better now and you can actually pick what side the handle and swivel wheels go on. The wheels on the old box were just screwed into the sheet metal no rivnuts back then(some had nuts and bolts though) I do prefer the layout of the old top boxes better than the hutches now. The hutch on boxes is a cheap out. Take out drawers and put in a lid. Oh and don't get me started on the old wrenches and ratchets...
so the mac rbt wrenches are now made for Craftsman.
I can’t find your new Bear’s Den CZcams channel! What is the link, please?
180 is nuts!
Been in my lowes since last april cause i bought the 262 peice verstack then and the had it right next to it i was like skunss luke a rip off
I like Craftsman for their hand tools, even the unAmerican ones, but everything else is Milwaukee!
I will give it a chance !! Great video!!!👍👍👍👍👍
What store are they sold at?
any new leaks on the new craftsman overdrive tool set?
I love craftsmen power tools cheaper than most and better than all most all
I haven't seen that 180 tooth set at my local Lowe's. Yet. But, I'll go searching tomorrow. As far as the Craftsman tool boxes, they are still sub-par to what you can get at HF. And for a better price. I tell everyone that's looking for tool storage, to check out HF General line. As far as the older Craftsman boxes go, I bought my first toolbox 'stack' back in the 70's: 9 drawer lower, 3 drawer upper. It's still around, even after six household moves. Being a vintage sorta guy, I've got a collection of the old gray/red boxes (chevron logo) from the 70's. I have every size/configuration that was sold, with the exception of the 12 drawer top and 11 drawer lower. I also have a large amount of Craftsman wrenches/sockets. Most are at least 30 years old. I'm not impressed with the new stuff, and have been adding Husky/Kobalt/Gearwrench items to the shop.
I hate that they dropped the big Texas plant, but the tools are good. The Milwaukee and snap on fan boys hate them for that lol
My main tool set is tekton but been buying my dad into craftsman
Craftsman was good when it was made in America I had a lot of craftsman that had USA on it. that I use today.
you can buy some great used US made stuff for less $. and current US made for a bit more
I seen a set with usa with global materials At Lowe's
Not the over drive just Regular set
I'd worry that the 180-tooth ratchet would not be as robust as 120.....tight fit advantage not-with-standing.....
How much water do you get sprayed on you.
I stopped buying Craftsman when they stopped manufacturing in the USA. I know that was under the former owner, but if I'm going to buy Taiwan made tools, then I'm going for the best priced brand. Dewalt, Milwaukee, etc. can have really good prices if you are willing to hunt and be patient.
Craftsman could serve free BBQ BEER and Pizza, and I'd look the other day. As far as I'm concerned , they've pooped the bed forever.
so they were coming up with this while they were canning the US factory, I don't know how they can fix the brand in my eyes.
By the time I need some new tools, the jury will be in and the price should be down. I hope it’ll be good news, because I think we all deep down want Craftsman to make a comeback. At least us old guys. I have the old red boxes in my garage, and some old raised panel combo wrenches that will never quit.
I like the butcher block over the metal tops
I love going to estate sales to build my tools up. Especially on last day of sale they have big discount.....
I could use that fan over here in texas it is burning hot
Im rooting for craftsman..i really wish they would bring the tools back to the US. Tywan is good manufacturer but for me craftsman is a usa brand. If you wanted the best tools without buying snap on you went to sears.. if it broke they have you a new one. I think all the years and craftsman tools i used i took back maybe 3 sockets and they was my fault lol
A 180 would be weak. To fine the pauls would very little.
Not a fan of the modern DeWalt/craftsman ratchets the handles are just so heavy and bulky, I love the old craftsman stuff from my dad and grandpa but this new stuff just doesn't do it for me
At $1800, the core seems much nicer to me.
Gotta see what the ratchets look like if they are slimmer than the old ones they shouldn't be bad
What is the story on the bear?
I have probably killed about 50 CMMT ratchets no exaggeration on relatively light duty work and had them replaced free by lowes in the last couple of years, the cmmt series are junk, their gunmetal ratchets have held up much better, was switching to Pittsburg/icon but now looking forward to this new series, going to wait and see, possibly mac r&D hand-me downs? very interesting, also maybe project farm or ttc can do a vid on them when they are avalible
I still got S&K tools I'm using from 1970
Only 21" depth and still not Griplatch (Craftsman's name for it) I'd be better off driving from Rochester, NY to Cleveland to buy the 56" Masterforce. Especially since I have no use for the milk crate sized bottom drawer. And Craftsman doesn't specify its storage volume anywhere on their site. While it may be rated for 900 pounds less, the Menards has 24" depth, 26,700 cu. in. storage, Raise and Release™ (Griplatch) drawers to match my 30 year old Craftsman (which, sadly, was only 18" depth), and costs $400 less (before Menards' useless to me rebates.)
What happened v-series isn’t selling? 😂 they asking for truck prices with jump around the hoop warranty
I had a socket go bad. I called them and they wouldn’t replace it because it was a swivel and didn’t come as a single as it did when I bought it years ago. I asked for an impact 1/2” deep same size 13mm 6 pt. They said sure. Only thing was they were out of stock. I called back every week or two for two months. Each call I would get an email after asking how they did. I ignored them for a while and then after that time I decided to light them up with a response of how disappointed I was. They emailed me back in a half hour and sent me both the 13mm but also a V Series 1/2” box with a new ratchet extensions wobble and a ton of sockets all as an apology. So far the set has been great. I just wish I had the Standard version too!
21 inches deep means 18 inch drawers ! Good for home but really limits storage as a pro!😢
Hey I went to Lowe’s a few days ago and tried to warranty my rachet and they would not accept it then I went to another Lowe’s and they told me same thing that I need a receipt and the warranty policy change I then went to ace hardware and was told the same thing . I called craftsman and they also told me that there are no more in store warranty since last month this is going be a big downer for craftsman and honestly this is going to be a deal breaker for me so no more craftsman because no more in store warranty
I took a 3/8” breaker bar to my Lowe’s a week ago and there wasn’t a question. Told me to just go grab another.
I had a similar experience a few years ago on a 15mm Kobalt wrench with jaws that sprung (the self-tightening left hand thread bike pedals can be a beyotch). Despite Kobalt hand tools having lifetime warranty, I had to get a manager involved to get it exchanged. Lowes has terrible customer service.
@@user-te1bu1yr3m lowes hasn’t been bad at my store. I was dealing directly with craftsman. But they did me right with the 1/2” set they sent me. I can’t complain. It worked great for my water pump job I just did on my XJ. I don’t know how the ratchet will do after it fell in the bucket of swill during the job… but I wiped her up best I could!
Im waiting for craftsman to come out with a brushless 6 1/2 circular saw
The V series and now this Overdrive stuff. Just confusion and muddling up the Craftsman brand. Brings nothing to the brand. If they want to take over the market; play hardball and cut the prices in half to start with. Then another half.
Wasn't the v series had something to do with Nascar
