This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updated 2022 Porsche Macan compact luxury SUV. Sleeker and Sportier than ever before, the 2022 Porsche Macan! The Macan is a popular entry-level model for Porsche, globally Porsche has delivered 600,000 since the models launch in 2014. 80% of Macan buyers are new Porsche customers and the proportion of women who buy a Macan has increased significantly over the years and is the largest increase amongst all Porsche models. What’s new for 2022? All Macan models get a power bump with the GTS getting the outgoing Macan Turbo engine. New exterior styling touches include, a redesigned spoiler, side blades, rear fascia and diffuser, mirrors and wheel designs ranging in size from 19”, 20” and 21”. The Macan comes standard with 19” wheels up from 18” on the previous model. It has standard black brake calipers, the S and GTS models come in red. There are new colour options including, Papaya Metallic on our test model which also has 21” GT design wheels in high gloss black and all season tires for $6,150 CAD. The interior also gets a refresh with a new centre console, steering wheel and shifter, gone are all the buttons. Instead Porsche is focusing on a more modern and clean interior design. I’ll have more interior pictures tomorrow. The base model Macan has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 7-speed automatic transmission, 261 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It gets a boost in power by 13 horsepower from the previous model. Standard AWD and you are going to have to put premium fuel in this crossover. The Macan S inherits the 375 horsepower from the 2021 GTS model and the GTS gets 434 horsepower from the Turbo model. What a lineup!!The biggest change to the interior is to the centre console, gone are all the buttons. The Macan has joined the Cayenne and Panamera with touch sensitive controls creating a slick and modern look. This crossover also gets a new shifter and steering wheel in the refresh. Our test model has a black leather interior but there are plenty of other colour combos to choose from including Mojave beige, Bordeaux red and Pebble grey. There are also different stitching combinations like Papaya, Bordeaux Red and Gentian Blue. The Macan comes standard with a 10.9” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay, sorry no Android Auto like the Cayenne, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, 8-way power seats, a power tailgate and a 10-speaker audio system. We recommend adding either the Premium package for $2,560 CAD/$2,240 USD or Premium Plus for $5,770/$5,050 USD to get some extra features. The first package gets you LED headlights with the Porsche dynamic light system, Bose sound system, lane change assist and heated rear seats. Premium Plus gets you all those features plus ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof and 14-way power seats with memory package, available 18-way power seats. You can also add the Burmester sound system for $5,370 CAD and there are plenty of a la carte items if you don’t want to add a package including, the panoramic sunroof for $1,910 CAD/$1,670 USD.
At Canada Drives you can buy your car 100% online and have it delivered straight to your doorstep. Once delivered, you have a full 7 days to love it or return it.

Great Review Guys as usual. I am really glad that they have the base model in the 4 Cylinder, here in Jamaica, the import duty is based on engine size, so there is a huge difference between prices of the base and s models! I have my base on order for May delivery, can’t wait! I did notice something in your review that I did not notice in any of the others I have seen, the fact they changed the turn signal, now to include basically all lights flashing, instead of just the indicator light, looks cool!

I prefer how the Macan handles and drives to the GV70 but the the Genesis is a wonderful option and less money if you are on a tighter budget.

Hi Zack and Andrea - I hear Porsche will be unveiling the all new Macan later this year so reckon it will be better to wait for that one. It will have to be competively priced if Porsche want to continue to sell the Macan in such high volumes. My dealer has said the new model is likely to carry a £4k (7k Canadian) premium over the S petrol. So still affordable to aspiring Macan owners at today’s price if you go easy on those extras! Best Clive

I've been a Porsche owner since 1978, all sports cars. While I appreciate the SUVs they are pricey when compared to the competition. And the fuel mileage isn't great, but I understand that's a trade off for sportiness and towing capacity. I'm sticking with the 2 seaters and going elsewhere for a daily driver. Excellent review as always!

Like Zack and Andrea, I've had a couple Porsche sports cars, a 911 and a 928S. My next one will be a Macan S, as my days of getting in and out of sports cars are over, plus, 911s are just too expensive now, even used ones and especially vintage ones. Sorry, an 84 Carrera is not worth $60k-80k+. The Macan S seems like a perfect all around vehicle for 2 people. Fun to drive, great looking, quiet and comfortable, easy to get in and out of, practical, etc.

I have to confess that although the Macan is a desirable vehicle with fantastic residual values, I would take the BMW X3 M40i all day and everyday.
In the U.K. there is currently a 12 month wait for a new Macan and up to 9 months for the X3 M40i. I do think the X3 is more practical with a good standard equipment list unlike the more expensive Macan, and that BMW inline 6 cylinder with 380 horses is sublime.

You can lock in your maintenance costs, similar structure and cost as Mercedes Benz, at around $1,400 for the first 3 years of ownership. Thanks again for the great review!

A subscriber...so excited when I saw there was a new review out there...of a Macan, which I own. Since I am not a fan of EV, I have been considering a newer replacement for my '17 Macan GTS. Enjoyed your review, but it is a tough time for consumers, wanting a new vehicle, but you can't get one. Unless, you want a base Macan. Interesting about 80% of those buying a base Macan are new Porsche buyers. They certainly achieved their goal; getting new people to experience the Porsche brand. But for me, it would have to be an 'S' at a minimum. Even if you can one, it will not have some standard features because of the chip shortage. For example, on the Macan GTS, the steering wheel column no longer comes with a power adjustment. Can't remember what it was on a BMW X3 M40i, but it was a deal breaker for me. In addition, because of supply and demand dealers are able to charge over MSRP, which should prohibit any one from purchasing at this time. But, I still love watching your reviews. Thanks so much for honest reviews.

The macaan is a nice SUV. The base engine gets great gas mileage and is reasonably fast to 75mph. Where it falls down - any spec - is the inability to run a square tire set up - preferably narrower, winter tires in snow. This is a glaring problem for anyone that wants to use it in snow

Would you take the Macan T or the BMW X340i? The Macan T looks much more premium at $5,000 more and handling is as good as it gets. However it does only get the 4 cylinder from the GTI. The Macan T is suited well to the 4 cylinder if you are carving a back road and keeping the RPM as high as it goes in the manual mode. But, there is less drama than the B58, less everyday power, and the four cylinder isn't going to give as good fuel economy as the BMW B58 I6 twin-scroll turbo which is probably the best drivetrain of any daily use car.

By the time you add destination and taxes, you are closer to $70k than $60k. The number in BC is $67,340 for a base with all fees and taxes, not including the scammy doc fees most dealers try to rip you off with. Doubtful you can find a Porsche on a lot equipped with zero options, they almost all have some added cost options.

Thank you very much, we really appreciate the support. I am a big fan of leasing, if you like the vehicle at the end of the lease, buy it out and keep it. We are keeping our diesel Cayenne, no need to sell it and jump into another one when we have such low km on it. We don't worry about reliability with Porsche as long as you stay on top of the scheduled maintenance, we haven't had a problem. Our 911's were older models, so they required more maintenance but we knew that getting into an older model. No major issues, just maintenance.
