    Yay my home town 😁 The 584 had been my local route for well... 20 years! 😂 Only since I moved to Wigan with my Boyfriend did I stop catching the 584!
    With the old TFGM tendering system, the 584 was an absolute mess of operators! Jim Stones Coaches (very much missed!) Ran the Monday to Saturday daytime service (most on a commercial basis), then the evening and sunday services were operated by various operators, the ones I can remember including; South Lancs Travel, Diamond NorthWest, Arriva North West, First Manchester, Stagecoach Manchester, Maytree Travel, Visionbus and Tyrers!
    There was also a school run on the 584 at one point which was also operated by a separate operator, meaning at one point this little local service had 4 separate operators on it 🤣
    Also, I hate to be that person but Tyldesley is pronounced more like "Till-ds-ley" rather then "Tile-sley" 😅

    Warrington also used to run a 419 between Leigh and Warrington which went via Lowton, Newton-Le-Willows and Winwick and that was probably as fast the 19. This route passed to Arriva in the early 2000's, they numbered 319 but it wasn't long until it was withdrawn.

      That sounds awfully like the 19 though, so would be interesting to see the two on a map to compare them

    The first Guided Busway in the UK was actually in Birmingham!
    Encouraged by the systems in Essen & Adelaide, WMPTE initially proposed converting the Bristol Road routes, but it was decided that an experimental scheme was needed first, so a section of former tramway reservation on the 65 (then City-Short Heath, extended to Perry Common at deregulation) from Stockland Green-Short Heath was converted, with Metrobuses 2686 and especially built "Tracline" 8101-8114 being fitted with guiding wheels, the first double deckers in the world to be so eqquiped, the busway opening in 1984..
    Opening in 1984, there was a tentative proposal to build another one in the Black Country along part of the 79 but politics intervined, with the financing West midlands County council getting abolished and deregulation being on it's way meant that the project was shelved. The busway came to it's end in September 1987, with 8101-8114 losing the guidewheels and becoming 2961-2974. The former 8114 is now preserved.

    The 34 was split in 1995 when GM Buses and Merseybus came to an agreement to cease what was quite aggressive competition at the time.

    I've done Trafford Centre-Warrington twice now, once with a Scania and one actually just yesterday with a Tridentviro 400, it's a pretty nice route to be honest
    Also, if your back around the main bit of Manchester some time, we could do something if you want 👍
    Brilliant video by the way, i like this Routing Through series and i cant wait for the next section of the series and also the parts of this series

    I would like to see an extension of the V1 to Liverpool via St Helens. If it was was routed via Lowton, then direct along the East Lancs Road, then quick detour into St Helens, then maybe out the other side of St Helens via the M62 to Liverpool, that would be quite competitive timewise and given how unreliable Northern Rail is, it would give people between the two cities a reasonably quick (not accounting for road congestion) alternative. This might be possible once the franchising starts in the Liverpool City Region.

      I do think some sort of route between Manny and Liverpool by public bus should be reinstated, but rather than the V1 being extended, have an X1 maybe. That could run from Piccadilly Gardens, and then head even more direct to the busway, through to Leigh, then limited stop via St. Helens.
      Wouldn't need to be competitive though, that defeats the purpose of Bee Network

    i can with 100% certainty say that the 2 B9s with guide wheels where at bolton went GNW took over the running of the V1/2/4 to cover for one of the purple ones that was away due to RTC and a few of the evocitys had the wheels fiited

  • @markstramtrainbuscapades1729

    Yeah, the Cambridge Busway was an old railway line.

    Turn back the clock about 5 years and most, if not all of those Leigh locals would have been run by Jim Stones.

      Very true. They were a truly beloved indie. I noticed that a lot of the issues with privatised buses around Leigh came after the owner of Jim Stones retired and the quality of service was never the same.

    Cambridge is guided, as is Luton. I think it's the Gosport Busway that isn't.

      I dont think a lot in the UK aren't guided. I know Runcorns is but that one predates the first Guided one, given it was built in the 70s, and is basically just bus only roads really.

    Have you thought about how to cover the 125R

    • @JoelFoley-nj4gw
      @JoelFoley-nj4gw Před 2 měsíci

      The link does not work but you can search the route up on it

    • @LucyMichela
      @LucyMichela  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The 125R will be done, as will all routes. If any get withdrawn before I ride them, they wouldn't count anyway, but as that route is quite an interesting one, I'm gonna do it within the next 4 to 5 episodes
