The Olympics made Paris REALLY hard to get around
Travelling Vlogs - Episode 5
After spending two nights in Marseille, we boarded the TGV InOui service by SNCF up to Paris. We had one night booked in a... characterful hotel but were on the first train in from Marseille of the day. This meant we had quite a few hours to kill, but just travelling around and sightseeing became quite hard to do with all the restrictions in place for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony.
Going into the second day, we had our trip home starting late that night - yes, really - so we spent the morning on the Metro and spending a while exploring a few areas. Then, we got the chance to go to a session of the Badminton for the Olympics, which was awesome! Finally, we kill a bit more time, and then head to the start of our journey home that I'll cover in my next vlog from this trip - the FlixBus direct from there to Manchester, so tune in for that in 2 weeks time!

I've been to Disneyland Paris twice but never to Paris itself funnily enough. Although I've always known it to be a huge disappointment compared to the romanticised view that many outside of France have of it (Paris Syndrome), plus the bedbug infestation they had a few years ago makes me reluctant to visit, but I've always wanted to have a go on the Paris Metro, looks like it's got lots of unique quirks about it and I've seen enough Tim Traveller videos to know that there are good things to do in Paris outside of the ultra touristy destinations. Looks like you two enjoyed yourselves watching some of the events so that's the important thing that it was a worthwhile trip

Église d'Auteuil is the official least-used station on the Métro because RATP only count entries, not exits - there are only ticket barriers to enter the Métro, not to get out. And as this is a one-way station, people generally only exit there, and go one block away to Chardon-Lagache to enter the Métro to get to central Paris.

BTW, on the C3, Wellfield Road is a one way street (although that was only done around covid so might not have updated in game) rather than Crwys Road, i assume it got the Strathnairn Street stop in the wrong place as its a dead end street (with the bus stop in the place where the junction would be). Also irl the routes that go up Albany Road almost all use West Grove/Richmond Terrace exclusively although what you have done is theoretically possible so there isn't much of an issue. Plus it might be an idea to serve St David's College (which is also in Penylan on Tygwyn Road and served by the 52 irl but cause of how you don't the route it skirts around it, although prolly won't make much of a difference in game). And yeah no buses don't go through Brandreth + Birchwood Road but it is possible). Also the Penylan campus for Cardiff Uni is called Uni Hall although its mainly student accomodation rather than an actual campus

I am glad that my suggestion to use block balises helped you! But I think that you are over-using it. When using secondary platforms, there must be no balises between the secondary platform signal and the platform. If you put it there, the signal will not "see" the platform and you can end up with multiple trains being routed into the same platform or not routed there at all. The double-track terminus station at Altricham needs to have one entry signal (the secondary platform one), and two exit signals, right on the edges of the platforms. Tracks, where trains could go both ways (single track sections and sidings), may also not have a balise on them. If you click on a signal, you can see what it is protecting. The ideal place for a block balise is after the last switch / set of points. NIMBY works on a track reservation principle - a train will reserve the _path_ ahead of it (including reversing) up until the next signal or balise. Trains check for conflicting reservations at those signals.

The reason why the Mmcs are at HE,Stockport is because of bus shortages, If Hyde Road Didn’t have the MMCs, they’d be very short, hence why the MX10 /60 hybrids were reinstated. Stockport , however , need them for 192. They need tridents to do other routes , 23 , 25 , 197, 383/4 etc.

Hi, I have noticed that you are signalling the tram tracks as if it was autoblock-style heavy railway. In NIMBY it is easier to just use a block ballise after the exit from a station, or after the last set of switches. The trams will not complain one bit, and it will also save a bit of processing power. I use ballises on double track mainlines as well, but that's less realistic. Secondly, I have a legit question about your depo runs: What are the benefits of adding more than one stop in the depo line? I only add the depo itself and everything works. Does it let pax board?

    • @LucyMichela
      @LucyMichela Před 16 dny

Really enjoyed this vlog, was proper hooting and hollering at the banter between you and G, especially when you was first in the hotel lol. I presume there were other services up Maine Road which the 11 would replace as it became operated by double deckers (I rode an Alexander bodied Olympian on it around 1999) before becoming the 111.

Your maps look different to mine. Yours show greater road detail and include the actual railway lines on the map, where on my default maps these are missing. I’ve looked at the game settings and there is no option I can see to turn those on. How do you display that info please?

It is a mod called Show existing railways. There is also a mod that displays electrification on steam workshop.

It says the on the fleet list there is prestiges & temsa avenues? Is that true?

Curious to know where are you getting these bus details/info from like when models were made etc?

It's a website called buslistsontheweb, which has all sorts of stuff you can use to find it all out, which is a great help for this game, haha.

Or maybe you could acquire the former first Wigan fleet off Stagecoach later in the rp?.

I dont know yet, with us having so long till 2023 in game, I reckon we'll have enough E300s by then haha

@@LucyMichela I meant you could acquire the ex wigan b7rle’s or darts wigan. Wigans b7’s being 21236-21248 (21248 (MX06 VOT) had a interesting life with first wigan then Stagecoach wigan and was wigans only MX06 b7rle. MX05 CKL ex first 66878 and Stagecoach 21237 was my personal favourite along with 66921 MX55 FGO ex Stagecoach wigan 21242

The fact how the Enviro400 is already gone is very concerning

It's pretty standard for FirstGroup. They ordered the MF72s with plans to transfer them within 6 months, yet applied a whole new livery to them. They've been doing stupid stuff like this for a good few years now

The Temsa MD9 would probably be quite well suited to routes outside Cardiff ngl. Seems a better alternative to the Solos and MMCs that irl companies use in more rural Wales.

Use the insert key to turn a built track back to blueprint. Faster than promote+demote.

Can I ask a question or two? how do you design a logo for buses and is there a place/site where I can get some templates to design a colour scheme on and then apply?
