He died 20 miles from where I lived, and I cried like a damn baby. And to think he couldn't even read music. He tried to learn, but quit and just simply played from his heart and soul. RIP Stevie.

One may not think this matters. I beg to differ. What gage strings did they play? Not taking anything away from any guitarist, but a guitarist that can play like Stevie and bend 13 gage strings a full fret and still break them... Everyone has their opinion, and I respect that...this is mine.
Saw him live twice back in the day, never seen anyone play blues with the passion and elaborate detail that SRV did, hes a guitar legend.
My Dad and Aunt went to school with SRV at Skyline Highschool in DALLAS TEXAS. A little known fact is that Dallas teenagers in the 50s and 60s often went well.. and still do meet up in the black entertainment district in Dallas called Deep Ellum, SRV frequented the local Dallas Blues scene along with my family listening to the GREATEST bluesmen that ever lived. Here in Dallas, we are serious about our BLUES!!! We eat BBQ and listen to the BLUES! My Dad said he was a nice guy, always shared his weed and all the girls had crushes on him because he would perform for them! Who wouldn't LOVE SRV? He was an amazing guitarist and he is OUR HERO here in DALLAS! We miss him every day, we erected several statues and memorials for our lost brother. I am really glad that you like him, that is such a compliment that you feel the same way we do about him!!!! RIP SRV

Just when you don't think it can't get any better it does. I like to watch people react to SRV for the first time. It's pretty much the same reaction EVERY time.
It never takes long to realize you are witnessing greatness.
This is a transcendental performance as he takes us along for the ride - fast, slow, powerful, and ultimately audacious. By the way, when I see pop-tarts dancin' and prancin' around the stage, believing they need 'showmanship' to capture their audience's attention, I just think of THIS performance by SRV.

I love the fact that he totally got clean from drugs and alcohol and was so supportive to people that wanted to get sober. If a fan said they wanted to get sober at one of his concerts, he would personally take them to an AA meeting and stay there with them. I still remember the day he died. 💔 I was lucky enough to have seen him in concert at Austin City Limits (you can find it on YT).

We have to give credit where it’s due he was the greatest guitar player that ever lived even even a Jimi Hendrix looked up to him he was the only white guy that was ever inducted in the blues Hall of Fame he died in a crash in 19 August 28, 1990 on his way to see his brother he was the greatest and we can look at them today and his music is still wonderful so I hope that we do give him the credit and really you know playing songs and appreciate them Liz the queen

Stevie was a very humble man. Sweet. Funny. Always gave credit to those before him and ALWAYS gave them the respect that they deserved. He was offended when they put B.B. King as his opener. He just didn't feel that was respectful to B.B.
P.S. this is how great he was on drink and coke. He was even better when he got clean from late 86 to 90. R.I.P. Stevie. We will always love you ❤
P.S.S. he was that great because he practiced his ass of and strived to get better. God given talent that he worked at and it shows.

I saw this way back in the mid 80's.... when I bought the VHS tape of Stevie Ray Vaughan LIVE AT THE EL MACOMBO! I showed played that vhs tape for all my friends... and the were totally "Blown away " when it came to the part where he plays that last verse... "Behind His Back"... like I told them ... Stevie Ray Vaughan is the G.O.A.T. !! R.I.P. STEVIE... you are dearly missed... but you will never be forgotten my bro! We love you Stevie!

I love all of Stevie's stuff..He show's it all off here, but there is a song, from this same show, I believe, called "Lenny" that he wrote for his wife..It's a bit of a departure from him just blowin' it out like he does here, but it's one of the tastiest, and most beautiful guitar pieces anywhere...Check it out..You won't regret it.

i dont think i have ever heard him play a solo twice the same way i saw him in a interview in the late 80's he was saying he practiced 12 to 15 hours EVERYDAY

Happy to see black people enjoying this. They say he's really a black man by soul and heart. To hear him for the first time is shocking then the guitar. He's the ultimate blues man for me. Granted he was influenced and taught by some of the greatest in history, they all respected and saw his talent. His influence came from poverty, experience from the hard dirty south. He may be white but he's connected us all. Some back to our roots . If you're black please listen to some of this ,explore it, it's not for everyone

When he came along the blues was dying and he single handily revived the genre by introducing a younger generation to it. I was so lucky to have seen him TWICE! His older brother Jimmie is also fantastic but his is a more traditional blues. Saw him in concert and met him also!

SRV was a magician with that guitar, some say he was from another planet. Bottom line is that he did things that were impossible for the average guitarist to try... hell he plays better behind his back than 90% of the rest of us playing normally.

That blew my mind 1st time i seen him play behind his back.
I seen him 3 times and had tickets to see him on tour they were on that foggy night in August of 1090 when his helicopter flew into a mountain on the way to the hotel from a show it was a massive blow to music

She attained popularity in the 1930s and 1940s with her gospel recordings, characterized by a unique mixture of spiritual lyrics and rhythmic accompaniment that was a precursor of rock and roll. Having no words but wow while trying to take in the enormity of this man's talent is understandable because you need to pick your jaw up first! The man meshes, melds, and surrenders to the River of music and just lets it flow where it wants to take him. He had said if he thinks about it he gets in his own way and it doesn't work. Thank You, JT! Stevie was killed in a helicopter crash in I think 1990- 91? He had a few years earlier stopped drugging and drinking, which made him so much better... RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan!
