It doesn’t get mentioned often, but Stevie’s talent was matched by true humility, kindness, and how he lived his life by the Golden Rule. Treating others fairly such as splitting his earnings evenly with his band members is just one example. Legend.

Stevie Ray Vaughan has an older brother named Jimmy Vaughan who has a band called The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray always said his brother was the biggest influence in his life and then all the Blues greats like B.B King, Buddy Guy, and of course his godfather Albert King. He also played behind his head, broken string, switched guitar in the middle of a solo and never missed a beat, one hand, no hands by moving the guitar up and down, tune his guitar while playing, adjust his AMP'S while playing one handed, his elbow and could play behind his back longer than anyone past or present. His career only span 7 years, his album Texas Flood came out in 1983 and he is in The Austin Music Hall Of Fame, Blues Hall Of Fame, he won 6 Grammys, 10 Austin Music Awards, 5 W.C.Handy Awards ,Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year and in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame until August 27th 1990 when he was killed in a helicopter crash in Troy Wisconsin at the age of 35. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN IS THE ABSOLUTE GOAT. RIP TO A LEGEND.

  • @Rebelrocker69
    @Rebelrocker69 Před rokem +6

Greg, SRV's soundcheck proves how great of a blues guitarist he is. He literally rolled out of bed, threw on a pimp coat and hat, walked onto the stage picking his nose, and shreds better than most guitarists do in studio or live. For a soundcheck! Nobody was supposed to hear it, but a roadie or somebody happened to catch it on film.
Edit: Not only was B.B.King an inspiration for SRV, they have played together on stage. SRV has also performed with Jeff Healy, Johnny Copeland, and Albert King to name a few. He is on a very short list of greatest guitarists of all time.

He also played with the blues legends, BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, many others as well like Eric Clapton etc. its a very long list - if you go back and listen to BB King (I) think Stevies playing is way better, partly because BB King said this of himself compared to SRV -- "I play in sentences, Stevie plays in paragraphs"--lol I saw Stevie play live twice back in the day, I still have the ticket stubs and ill never forget it, Stevie did things with his guitar no other blues player had done -- but Stevie ALWAYS showed mad respect to all the blues legends that came before him and he never tried to upstage them when they played together. 3 minutes into the song:"He is killing it, bruh!"
    Me: laughing in Blues
Next, try any song from the 1989 Austin City Limits show. You can thank me later. Voodoo Child is especially 🔥. It's the video your guitar watches when you are not at home.
Now remember, the video you're watching is him playing at the time of his life when he was pouring cocaine into his whisky, morning, noon and night. He wasn’t a big guy, maybe 5’7”, but he would do enough cocaine in one day that would kill a much larger man. He started drinking when he was six, into drugs at 14. He nearly died from the cumulative effects of drug use in 1986. Doctor told him, you can quit now and you may live, or keep using and you’ll be dead in 30 days. He said he’d quit, had one final drink (a glass of champagne), went into rehab and was successful the very first time. His bandmates (they were more like brothers) did the same because they wanted to support him in his recovery. Even a lot of his road crew got clean. The 1989 Austin City Limits show is one where we was clean.
He helped many other musicians get clean afterwards (Bonnie Rait says she would have died if not for him) and helped thousands of fans get sober. You can find a speech he gave at an AA meeting on CZcams (he, his band, and his road crew would find a meeting no matter what city they were playing in ). It’s generally not kosher to share a person’s private story when giving an AA speech, but it’s never been taken down. His brother, Jimmie, said if it helps one person, Stevie would want it to stay up. Once he got clean, he got even better, more focused, happier… He had almost 4 wonderful years before being killed in that damn helicopter crash.
As talented as he was with music, he had an even bigger heart and would do just about anything for a person. No inflated ego, soft spoken, loved everyone. I grew up and live about 10 miles away from his stomping grounds, in the same generation. To us, he was a local boy of who we are still immensely proud, even after 32 years. I and other locals visit his grave several times a year, and dozens from around the country and the world come to visit each year. No matter when you go, there are always fresh flowers, guitar pics, etc left on his grave. A few locals, every time we go to his grave, we make sure marker, and his parents’ marker, are nice and clean. He is still well loved.

Taught himself, mostly, was a grade school drop out, and was horribly abused by his father. Stevie Ray was taken from us, far too soon, when he was just getting to his prime. Why? Cause God wanted guitar lessons, I guess.

Don’t stop at Stevie. Blues guitarists are a unique breed, especially the early dudes, Lightning Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Muddy Waters - keep going.

Great first reaction👏🙌💯‼️my favorite artist of all time🎸🎶‼️💙. That guitar was an appendage of his body. The first 30 seconds of my first time watching him I was struck by the intense intimacy of his relationship with his 🎸. We have been missing him intensely since 1990 when God brought him back home but his legacy, love, music, and inspiration still goes on stronger every year. Reactors like yourself discover him and turn him onto other people. Always do live performances, watching him totally immersed in the musical moment is where a lot of magic lies🌟✨⭐️. First time landing on your channel cuz I saw his name. *Note: his last name is spelled Vaughan. I will be back for more cuz I have no doubt you will start down this amazing rabbit hole✌️💙

GOAT! There's a reason all of the great blues artists of the day wanted to collaborate with him. He, BB King and Albert King played together a few times.

SRV ~ 🎸🐐 THE goat of all goats
You just witnessed one of, if not, THE best guitar performances of all time. Period.
Albert King was Stevie's main man.
    Do yourself a HUGE favor:
**Life Without You at Capitol Theater **
**Voodoo Child at Starwood Theater in Nashville**
*Tightrope at Austin City Limits 1989**

Back in the early 70s I was visiting a friend in Austin, Texas and this friend took me to a somewhat rundown bar. You know, the kind with peanut shells on the floor and smoke in the air. There was a blues band playing. They were pretty good and we were enjoying the music and having a few drinks when a guy sauntered in and sat at the table next to us. As soon as the band finished the song they had been playing the lead spotted the guy next to us and said, "Hey Stevie why don't you come on up and jam a little with us?" That's when I knew I was in the presence of the greatest blues guitarist in the world. I wept when I learned of his tragic death (stupid helicopter). The world will never know another like him. RIP SRV

Stevie Ray Vaughan paid tribute to all the blues legends, Tbone Walker, all the Kings (BB, Albert, Freddie), Albert Collins, Jim Hendrix, and all the greats from the records he played and learned from. His family was musical, and his brother Jimmy Vaughan played the Dallas and Austin circuit, which little Stevie emulated, and ultimately surpassed everybody. Thanks for drawing attention to him. He is sorely missed forever.

Dont you just love the fact that you are hearing things that you've never heard before?? I had someone turn me on to Primus and bucket head lately, and was amazed. I love all genres, as long as they are talented, and Stevie Ray was the MASTER. I love your reactions. We can all open our minds to different music...

Thank you so much for this heartfelt reaction to my Buddy, Stevie. You should know that Stevie was as kind, gentle, and humble as he was talented. Some other very bluesy performances to check out “ Tin Pan Alley” with Stevie Ray and Johnny Copeland from Montruex, “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” from Austin, 1989, and “Leave My Little Girl Alone” also from Austin, 1989. For two incredible instrumentals, try “Lenny” and “Little Wing” from the El Macombo. That should start you off!!! ❤️Donna G

Must here “Little Wing”….your life will be changed! To really blow your mind, listen to BB King & SRV play “Blues at Sunrise.” You will want more…. I’m 58, recently lost my 36 yro son. He loved A Perfect Circle and the lead, Maynard. He would listen when I played SRV…loved him as much as I ❤️‍🩹

Other than Texas Flood my next favorite song by SRV is "Mary Had A Little Lamb"
I never get tired of seeing reactions of the point he starts playing behind his back or the smooth change overs when breaking strings, he's already blown them away with his "normal" playing then BOOM goes nuclear on them!!

Look for the SRV and Albert King sessions - two great masters going at it. One thing I love about him is that he uses the whole guitar - from low to high registers, chords, single notes, slow, fast - everything.

BB King and Buddy Guy (more so) were huge influences and peers he worked with and learned a lot from. In the end they both indirectly put him at a whole new level for obvious reasons... arguably the best of all-time.
