This honestly is the best how to video ever! Was able to follow step by step and got it done
I thought the same great video tuturial saved us lots on labor
You have no idea how helpful u r man thank u it's so hard to find stuff for the avenger
Excellent video. I replaced the alternator on my Avenger today using this guide. Thank you!
You saved me today. My alternator died in the middle of driving and my dash panel started throwing codes and I lost my speedometer and my car wouldn't shift gears. I was stuck in a city I didn't live in. It cost me 500 total for a jack, stands, and the new alternator, but your video is the sole reason I was able to get it done without any real hiccups. Today was a horribly long day but it could have been much longer and much, much worse. Thank you.
I replaced the alternator on my 2013 Avenger today using this video, the job was alot easier than i thought it would be thanks to the video, the hardest part for me was getting the damn connectors off of the AC compressor and the alternator, other than that it was a breeze, it took me about an hour and a half from start to finish using just hand tools, thanks for the vid.....👍
Same here! Thanks for the video, well done! Especially the belt routing visual.

How does the lock tab on the alternator wiring release
@@NicoleMcFall i had a hell of a time getting mine off, you either push the tab down or pull it up i can't remember also there may be a locking tab on it also, the locking tab is on the connector it is red in color and you have to pull it out to release the lock then push down on the tab and it should come apart, it's been a while since i did mine.

Great video! Thanks a ton. I was very intimidated to go removing everything but your video made it easy. Saved me several hundreds I'm sure.
Great video. A lady has a avenger at work and her alternator just went out. Now i know it's not a bad job thanks!
This is a great video! It’s complicated but this video is easy to follow! Thanks for making it.
That belt diagram saved my ass. Thank you man!
Firefighter 523 glad I put it in there. Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for this video. Very descriptive and detailed to get every step from start to end. I just had my alternator burn up after I was stuck in the snow, then got myself out of it after shoveling snow from the tires. Then later last night, my car was running low on power while driving and then couldn’t go through the bit of snow I was driving in. Then turned it off, which was when it wouldn’t turn over and start but lights and battery was good. Now I’m about to go start this process.
Fixed the alternator and everything put back right. But my car battery charger indicates 14.4v when I get it to run but it sounds a little odd. Then my warning light pops up
Thanks for the video. Just changed my alternator on my avenger using this video!!!! Great job.
Hey thanks for the video bro 💪🏼. I had this video on repeat while I was changing the alternator to my Avenger.
Thank you so much for this video and guiding me through it. I did it in my backyard laying on rocks with it jacked up with very little room. Not ideal, but got the job done. The hardest thing really was getting the new alternator to fit back in, the bottom bolt just wouldnt slide all the way down. I shoulda known since I had to pry the old one off with a pry bar. Thanks for the belt diagram picture as well, that helped alot. My tensioner retracts back strong automatically so trying to turn it and hold it there all while moving the belt over was a chore in itself but I got it. Thanks again, your the man!
You are a life saver. You made it so simple a dummy could use and I did thanks again
Change the alternator on 2013 Dodge Avenger SE using this. This video help make this job a hellva lot easier than I thought.
I just gotta say man of all these I've watched you have done well....thanks sir...
Only reason you have to take off AC compressor is because alt. Won't come out otherwise. I put bottom bolt in it to hold it up....good video.
Thank you so much for stating the bolt/socket measurements!
Great to save the hassle of trying to figure it out while reaching in and under.
Best instructions for alter removal and replace I've never seen. Thank you much
Followed the video step by step, thanks so much man you saved me so much on labor cost. You deserve everything 🙏💪🏾
How long did it take you
Felt accomplished after checking the voltage and test driving the car. Got home smoked a joint and almost for got to like and comment on your video dawg lol. Thank your tho fr, it really helped
I know you gotta get your hours but I loosened the passenger side motor mount and pull it up through the top on the ground without removing anything but the pulley in the way of the bolt.
I give it a try next time. Thank you for the tip 👍
This video saved me some real money 💰! Thank you very much!
Man thank you for this video ours just went in our 2010. Thank God it was in our drive way
I watched another video where they took off the power steering pump and the bracket … I knew they had to be an easier way. Thank you 👍🏼
I would just like to add it is not necessary to remove the AC compressor I have replace the alternator on my 2010 Dodge and I never remove the compressor there is just enough room to Wrangle the alternator out from the top end of the motor if you turn it just the right way it will come out it's a pain in the ass but it can be done I've done it myself
I just did my 2010 sxt. HOLY 🤬 WHAT A STUPID PLACE FOR THE 🤬 ALTERNATOR!!!! this feels like proof that engineers hate mechanics!! thanks for the video friend. Very helpful! From Redding California
Very informative video, you helped me out a lot BroTado Chip. I own a 2013 Dodge Avenger, The placement of the battery & alternator makes me want to run to the nearest living thing & kill it, LOL
No kidding - battery alone is a pain in the ass.
The toecutter...engineer is to blame. He had a degree, but was last in his class, lol
Thanks for your video it helped so much when going to replace my alternator today
I'm getting ready to do this job. Thank u for posting.
How did it go?
Excellent video with good detail and no excessive content. I managed to knock it out in about 2 hours, could have gone faster if I hadn't stopped for dinner. Thanks a ton for posting this, got me out of a pinch with my girlfriend's car. Post your venmo here and I'll have her send you a few dollars 😁
Thank you soooo much, my friend, for the video! Just got done putting in a new alternator in my new (to me) 2012 Dodge Avenger.... With YOUR help! Couldn't have done it without ya!!!! Much appreciation!!!! I liked & subscribed and will find a way to buy you a coffee or sumpin! THANK YOU!
dam good video. You really made it easy for me. You didn't do all that unnecessary talking. Sincerely, thanks
You the man for this one thank you sir.
Does the alternator or tensioner have to be adjusted in order for proper fitting of the belt ? Bc I’ve replaced the alternator etc and the belt no matter how much I loosen it the belt will not get back on
Good tips on the replacement. Not too bad of a job.
I think you so much and I hope that you can do more stuff with the Dodge Avenger that is as detailed as this video was I just found out that my alternator is going bad so I looked it up and you made it very simple and straight to the point. I do not know who would give you thumbs down but whoever that is f**k that person's opinion. You even gave us the serpentine belt diagram and I was able to screenshot it from the video. You are a lifesaver thank you so much and again can you please do more work to the Avenger car it's hard to find any videos on CZcams for that specific car👍🏿👌🏿
Very Helpful. Thanks !!
Talked a little fast, but very very helpful! Not to thrilled messing with the A/C compressor, but very detailed video!
Bro, belt routings diagram with your video?! Wow, A+. Instant sub from me. Thank you
Just another reason NEVER to buy a Dodge. Battery and Alternator locations are ridiculous.
Still better than Ford and many foreign cars. Ford(trucks especially) are ridiculous for making you take off so much more crap just to do basic things that you may need to do more frequently than an alternator.
Better than some. But the battery placement is very stupid. What were they thinking? Plus how dangerous it is...
Pain In the ass to even find the battery
@@fear._iscool1542 that’s more of a small sedan thing…
@@aguynameddoug.8001 Weight management.
Thanks for the informative video👌💪
I was wondering do you think its possible to change the alternator from the top without having to jack up the car 👀
I know it may seem like a stupid question to ask after seening how easy it was when you lift it up😂
Your gonna want that space. Even with the wheel off it was tight for me.
thanks I have to do one this weekend.
Good video, nice and detailed.
Thank you!
Very well done. Appreciate the bolt sizes, belt routing diagram. Keep up the good work.
I'm doing this job now and I don't think the bottom bracket was on the bolt. Any advice on finding a replacement? Maybe just a bolt
Very helpful video .my brother thanks alot from 1 blood family.2019 2024
You were great!! Thank you
Wow great video thank u sir ......
Thanks indeed, clear, not too "wordy", and to the point. My main thought: good grief the newer cars make working on them a pain in the rear for the shade-tree mechanic (which this video helps empower, I get it). Car engineers probably laugh each day as to how hard they can make things be for "average folk."
You are awesome buddy. thank you!
Thank you for watching!
How long did it take to replace the altenator?
Amazing video ! But why can’t I get the a belt to get on 🥺
How much did you charge for doing this alternator ? Please
Very good video thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Just did this on the side of the road, thank you!
Sorry you had to do that but I’m glad the video helped. Thank you for watching!
:37 oh thank god you thought of a way to disable the battery without having to open the wheel well up, your video is a life saver on any future electrical components I need to replace thank you, you ought to make a video just showing people how to disable the battery without have to go through all the bull shit because I had to disable the battery to replace the blend door on my avenger but their was an air bag hazard if I didn't disable it so I had to turn the wheel and take the cover off the wheel well and disconnect the negative battery cable
Whoever decided to put the battery there needs to be banned from ever engineering on cars. I'd say worse but don't want to get banned from YT
Thanks man . Gotta help a friend tomorrow. Hmm, maybe I shouldn't thank you yet. Might be cussing you out tomorrow. Good quality video with no wasted time. Good content. Well done.
steve baumgardner lol Hopefully everything goes smooth for you. Thank you for watching!
@@HowtoAutomotive Was joking about cussing you out. No need to reply. We like to watch cooking videos but unfortunately some drag on and on. We like the ones that get to the point and get it done. Such as your videos. Informative and you value time. Good quality and content. Thanks again.
how long does this job take to finish? anyone ?
How can I test the alternator first ?
Thank you so much
Excellent
Thank you very much, Sir!
Thank you for watching!
Works great when everything is exactly like the one you're working on but the 2014 I'm working on is nothing like that and will not come out even when removing the ac compressor
Thanks 💪
Question, so the connector wire to my ac compressor is ripped. Would that affect the my car? I replaced the alternator, and got new battery and my car still won’t stay on and the battery light is still on... car dies every 30 sec after I jump it.
Did you figure it out?
@@lexuses3942 yeah. Rotten ass squirrel chewed something from underneath.
My alternator is the right one but is hard to put in is there something. Wrong ??
Thank you!!!
Thank you for watching!
So I replaced my alternator.. but my lights still flicker and doesn’t want to stay on long... could it be the battery now?
K!D __ Yea the bad alternator killed the battery 🤒 I just changed my battery now I’m changing my alternator. I got a 14
Hesi Fam just got my battery replaced and worked good. I appreciate ya man!
The alternator you have in the link for Amazon does not look like the new one you are installing it lloks like the bad one your taking off. also in the description for it it says it's an 115 amp dealership says you need 140 amp for this car people do not use the link for the Amazon alternator it is not the correct one for amperage
Even after watching the video I tried to do it my way and, nope. I tried not taking the compressor off and it was a pain so off with it. Tho I ended up removing and installing the alt from above. Some a** installed the lock washer on the wrong side and it was a headache to remove without damaging the cable. About to finish up but I had to comment. Great video.
would you suggest not doing it from the top. I don't have jack stands only the one that came with the car
@@UndercoverSpill it can be done if u have the appropriate wrenches or extensions. Definitely will be more difficult but it can be done.
@@akadabeatmagician8207 just got my mechanic to do it.

007 Mart thank you for watching!
that Hex Flange Locking Nut And Retainer is what confuses me. why not just a nut?
👌 exelente
Before u knew u had to change it were u experiencing your car shutting off at a stop/stoplight sometimes and your lights dimming at a stop??
DoRight Yiddy I believe this just had the battery light come on. Was not stalling.
DoRight Yiddy I’m experiencing that now
Javonte Mullins yeah if u figure it out please let me know what was wrong i already checked the alternator, that was good, and the battery so im lost at this point so please let me know
I just did this you have way to many extra steps you don't need to remove the tire or lift the car Or take the compressor loose at all. Take the pulley off take the bolts out of alternator take wires off drop it to the ground. Then do the reverse.
Is is possible to remove and replace the alternator from the top of the car? I just recently replaced one in my dodge Journey and it wasn't too difficult. The engines seem to be about the same in both vehicles.
Do I need to use a memory saver if I'm only replacing the alternator?
Chris Scott you should be ok. There’s a possibility that you’ll lose your radio and a code will be required to get it activated, it. should have came in your owners manual. Also you will have to reset the clock.
@@HowtoAutomotive thank you, this video helped me get my car running again!
How about actually showing how these damn tabs I keep breaking actually "slide back" .....damn it!!!!
You can replace the alternator from the top you know...
Explain
is it easier or harder?
Dodge Adventure?
Looks like AutoCorrect kicked in. Lol thank you for pointing it out.
Good video but I'll just pay the $145 i was quoted and give this headache to someone else if i had all the right tools and a lift maybe
If you have a 6 cylinder model do not attempt to replace the alternator.
You don’t have to take out the compressor at all the 2017 Engine is the same
? How’d you do it
It's no wonder why mechanics charge so much to work on cars these days. It's like they keep making things less accessible.
Buy a Toyota
Diagram is wrong
everyone else seems to enjoy the diagram? Maybe look at it closer
Great video. But the Dodge Avenger f****** sucks a** and even just replacing the battery is a f****** pain. And I'm never, ever ever buying a Dodge again. And I recommend everybody to never buy a Dodge again. It's such a ridiculous thing to not just have the alternator on top of the engine like usual. It's all the way in the bottom and a hassle to replace.
