Maverick actually doesn’t have much of a career besides being a great pilot. He is the same rank as the people he is teaching. I understand why he wants to be where he is, in the infantry everyone would stay a squad or team leader permanently if they could but that isn’t a career. Being a captain after decades as an aviator is an insult and in the real military he would have been forced out.

Unfortunately I’m not very familiar with naval ranks or aviator positions so I can’t say with certainty but after 30 years he would either be forced to retire, forced to promote or he would just resign his commission and walk away.

I just finished watching a film about a group of top pilots who had to negotiate a narrow pass, bomb a well-guarded target and then climb like hell to escape. In was called the 633 Squadron, made in 1964 about a fictional WWII bombing mission. Of course, it doesn't compare to Top Gun Maverick, but it has a number of the same flying scenes, shot for shot. Not as intense, of course. These were twin-prop planes and the flying special effects were not the best, but not bad for 1964. Goes to show there's nothing new under the sun. By the way, loved Top Gun Maverick. Turned the '64 movie just to watch something late night and couldn't believe it.

"There's more than one way to fly this mission" is actually the exact point. There are more than just F18s in the US arsenal. There are more than 4 planes on a US carrier. There is zero reason for them to be limited to their current choices. 1 good pass from a spy satellite could spot every SAM site. The volley of tomahawk missiles they ALREADY PLAN ON SENDING could take them all out. Dozens of aircraft burn in high and level at supersonic speeds. 4 are tasked to hit the target from altitude while the rest go up against these mythical 5th generation fighters by outnumbered them about 10 to 1. Why didn't they do that? Because it would be over in about the same time it took to write this comment.

He is the living son of God who wants to know us and have a personal relationship with us. No matter what you have done no matter how far gone you think you are Jesus can and will save you. All you have to do is confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. Believe that he died on the cross for your sins and had a bodily resurrection 3 days later. We cannot be saved by our works but by faith in Christ alone. Repent and turn to Christ.
