      @RogueBoyScout Před 2 lety +9

      What I loved about that Netflix special, and some of his earlier stuff, was the comedy bits about the LGBT community. As a member of it, it was just refreshing to hear a hetero man speak on the "politics" of our community. I am Bi, and for every straight person (and to be fair, it's very few) that may have given me some grief for it, it's nothing compared to the grief you can get from the gay community.
      Don't be fooled, they like adding us in the Alphabet, but gay men can be real pricks to bi men... "Ohh, you just haven't accepted your gay." plus some even nastier crap. More common then they want to admit. So that car analogy cracks me up. It still feels like the only true Bi person society accepts, are the "hot" women. And even they can cop heat from the Alphabet Sisterhood.
      Look, If you're a man or woman that looks like you can put me in an armlock, I am attracted. As in "passing a hot looking person" attracted. And yet, 99 percent of the population can relax, I don't secretly want to have sex with you. (To be really honest, if you ain't rocking a uniform, probably forget it. And sexy schoolgirl/fireman stripper is NOT a uniform)

      This right here. The same people calling to cancel him are the same people that would have called to cancel George Carlin and Richard Pryor. They're too caught up in their hurt feelings to THINK about what is actually being said, only how they FELT when they heard it. And they're so entitled, that they think that HOW they feel is more important than the story being told, missing the part where it's a joke. It's comedy, and comedy has long been a way to tell truths that some people don't want to hear. Think about the king's jester... That was literally the jester's job, to tell the king the truth, but to make light of it, so the king would be more receptive to it.
      Someone said it's not comedy is someone isn't offended. I don't know how true that is, but I will say, some people make it their life's mission to be offended by any and everything.

      As someone who does not live in the USA.. it is not that easy. It took me a few years and several discussions with a friend (60 something year old Jew) who would always get upset when I used the N word. You see, in my country, we call people like we seem em, and “negro” is a term of endearment (most of the times ) My own dad calls me negrita... so really, there are things that just can’t be understood that easily if you haven’t received proper education about it. Dave probably understands this and is why he behaved like that.

Maybe some of these white people will believe police brutality is real THEN! We have to do things together or it's not going to get done. That dismisses the abuse and trauma of another. In this case, Chappelle was recounting fear for the lives of his children. Why was he afraid? Because of widespread abuse by police of everyone? @What you Know .........nah, I've had this debate already so I'm not gonna have it again😔, but I'ma just put it out there that there are too many stories about people complying and still getting harassed and/or murdered. The assumption that "oh well if black people don't wanna get shot they should act right" (just paraphrasing here) is honestly offensive and kinda discriminatory seeing as many pocs who go above and beyond to comply and are still mistreated or worse. While many people not of color can act a whole fool and still leave with their life. At the end of the day non-pocs will never have to worry about that kind of racism, thank God! Nobody deserves that. It's terrifying to see attitudes/opinions as ignorant as that, when there is so much evidence and examples shown. I'm just not sure how many innocent people have to die before people acknowledge the blatancy of alot of this stuff. Breona taylor not only shared my name, but lived in my city, not to far from where I live........that whole situation could have easily been me. My father, with his four babies in the car, was harassed by cops right in front of us. He complied the entire time, while telling us not to cry to loud as to not escalate the situation. Please take the time to educate yourself not only theoretically but experientially so that you can gain some compassion and better understanding cause it's tiring to have to continue to explain and prove the pain and damage police brutality causes. Your kind of comment is always someone with something to prove instead of someone trying to understand and make things better. Exhaust your resources to truly try and understand to make the situation better, not to just debate for sake of winning an argument for whatever validation that brings you. If we all stopped to do that (even pocs) then things would actually get better😕 you have a nice day though.

    Love Dave! I don't think I could've been as forgiving BUT, his words calmed me as I continued listening to the story. Part of what bothers me about it ALL is that, we're "expected" to be forgiving or rise above of all of the racism & discrimination that we go through & if we speak upon it, we're looked @ as VIOLENT, AGGRESSIVE, ANGRY or told to leave the past in the past ( they don't say that to Holocaust survivors 🤔). The truth is that, we're still being treated as if we are less than & some of the people in political office, are desperately trying to take us back to an era that I "thought " was long gone( for the most part)

    • @Observer29830
      @Observer29830 Před 2 lety +1

      I think you are 'expected' to be forgiving or rise above, if you want to succeed in causing lasting change. The US is still majorly white, and for black people to achieve equality, respect, etc. you need the white people on your side. And you can bring more people to your side by acting forgiving and rising above, than by being violent, aggressive, or angry (despite the fact you have every reason to act that way). When this ignorant lady said the bad things she said, Dave Chappelle could have just ordered the guards to throw her out. He would have been justified in doing so, and the crowd would probably cheered him on. And the girl would have went home, not only having not changed her opinions, but probably becoming embittered by the experience. Maybe it would have even made her to make some poor black person's life more miserable, should she acquired any modicum of power over them. Humiliation goes deep like that. Instead, he chose to educate her, and then make peace.
      Because he's an influencer. I think black folks in your country all need to try and be influencers for white folks they know. I know some are getting annoyed at 'having to correct and educate whites like it's their job' and 'being pissed at it being expected', and that 'white people should educate themselves', etc. And they would be right. Yes, they shouldn't have to, and yes, whites should. But if black folks want to enact change, rather than just feel righteous, they have to be the bigger people.

      0.1% of comedians actually become super successful, the ones who do are obviously more likely to be intelligent, just as anyone who becomes successful at anything has to have some intelligence. For example if you complain vocally about how your feet always hurt people won’t care as much as you not having enough money for day to day life since they only heated you talk about your small problem. I recently saw a clip in which Dave calls for/identifies as part of a 'kindness conspiracy' -this (well made) video seems aligned with that. I would love to hear Dave speak more about that.

    His outlook on life, and what he thinks it entails to make it is organically demonstrated, each and every time he hits the stage... And even when he's not!! Thank you for always, being you!!

      I'm still waiting for Mr. Truth to Power turn his eyes inward and comment on the corrupt black politicians who have run - and destroyed- inner cities for decades. And who is getting all those black women pregnant- running on to the next sista and knocking up her. Instead he perpetuates a false narrative. BTW, cops don't target innocent black men.
