Uncle Phil yelling at the cops for arresting will and Carlton without the right process to do so is my favorite part
I love how he stands up for his wife.
It doesn't get too much attention, but Mr Firth looked pretty pissed off too. The way he backs up with a smirk on his face when he knows that Shredder is about to come out is great to see.

Yes, they take advantage of people who don't understand their rights. It sometimes takes a man of Uncle Phil's expertise to put them in check

Other than a step son, James Avery didn’t have any children of his own, and he turned out to be one of TVs best fathers, same as Reginald VelJohnson.

Will Smith went off-script in that scene, and started talking about his own feelings about the real (lack of) relationship with his own father. It wasn't Uncle Phil hugging his nephew, it was James Avery hugging his friend.

Oh, Uncle Phil channeled his inner demon and those 2 bit mall security cops were cowering in fear.
Uncle Phil was EXACTLY right when he looked at Will and said "You ARE my son. End of story. And you better be by a phone on Sundays." Lou may have donated the DNA to create Will, but PHIL was the one who raised him, who was a father to him, and treated him as he did the rest of his kids.

*Listen* to that last scene, right about the time Phil knocks Will's hat off while hugging him. You hear another voice in the mix, a *woman's* voice, letting out a sob too. This scene was so powerful it made the *crew* cry.

I really loved this character. Will was not blood-related to Uncle Phil. Nevertheless he cared so much about Will. That's why I loved their relationship. Love is not about blood.

i grew up with amazing male figures, but watching Uncle Phil, was everything. James Avery was just perfection in the role. he was everything, uncle, father, mentor, ally, and occasional antagonist. he really was everything, that Will needed
Out of ALL of Uncle Phil's scenes that choke me up, the best of all is when Will is breaking down about his dad and Phil is there to help him thru it... the "How come he don't want me man" just kills me, that will forever be the best scene to me
This was a very emotional scene and prior to filming Will had gone to James and asked how to play it out. James told him to feel the energy in the room and he would know what to do. After they embraced the director yelled "Cut, we got it. Great shot." James kept holding Will and whispered to him "Now that's acting."

You know, Will was having trouble conveying his emotions in that scene, so James Avery, the brilliant actor and man that he is, tells Will to use his energy, and this scene plays out. In the last bit of the scene. James whispered to Will, "Now that is real f*cking acting."

Been there, done that, and dealt with that pain. Worse yet, my own "Dad" molested me, and beat up on my Brother and Mother. Praise GOD we got away from him!!!

Uncle Phil was a TV Dad to so many kids in the 90’s. It’s ironic that James Avery (Uncle Phil) never had children yet he became one of the greatest father figures 90’s children could ask for. He truly was Will’s Dad.

That last one never fails to make me cry. I think it was one of the most powerful moments on TV. And when Uncle Phil laid down to law enforcement, woo hoo. That was a burn. RIP James Avery. Uncle Phil was an awesome character. He was loving, friendly, supportive, and kind to those who needed him & warm-hearted.
That last part of the video about the dad situation is always sad to me. Uncle Phil was a good man, he was a good dad, and he was a good uncle for his family and on the show. I'm proud of him and I still love the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air show.
That scene at the 7 minute mark hit me hard as a kid. Because every thing Will rattled off I had to learn on my own and experience without my father. Fresh Prince, Family Matters and Saved by the Bell were great shows

Growing up in the '80s & '90s, my childhood was very tough like so many others, I moved away from my dads house and lived with my Uncle Pat, who became the father figure I needed and helped me out all the way til he passed away, My Uncle Pat was Uncle Phil and I really miss him so much.
I am adopted that last clip hits hard.

These words just really get to me when I think of my own father who left my mother and I when I was a child to move in with my Mom's sister and father five other half-sibling cousins. Although he died in 2000, I never really got any closure with him, and this scene hurts my heart to the core. Maybe if I had an Uncle Phil in my life, maybe things could have been different. Who knows. All I can do is be the best father that I can be to my daughter and son so that they don't have to go through this pain I'm still carrying years later.
the last one hit me hard, as someone who grew up where my dad wasnt in my life. My dad was a bit of a better dad then wills. But not by much. He left me when I was 4, and I still see him but typically its just once or twice a year. if even, I mean my mom raised me. And I have a stepdad now. lol. ok, yeah im gonna stop the message now before i start thinking about it and get emotional.
Someone says you have to look at it as he wasn’t suppose to be in your life like that. Then you wouldn’t be the exact person you are today. You didn’t miss out on anything, he missed out on raising a beautiful child.
My absolute favorite, uncle Phil episode was when Will’s dad showed up and left. uncle Phil was there for Will, as always, broke my heart, but made me love uncle Phil, even more. ❤

James Avery was by far one of my all-time favorite actors. In the past when people used to ask me to list five people I would love to meet... James Avery was part of that list. We miss ya Uncle Phil.

Fresh prince of Bel air reminds of me and my family I was brought up in the South of England and in 2008 I moved to The North of England 8 months after my mum died I moved in with my Aunt and Uncle My Mum's Sister.now everyone thinks they are my mum and dad but they are in a way.Everytime I. Watch Fresh prince It brings tears to my eyes

If Will, right now, ever needed a wake up call, it would be from hearing James' voice in clips like these.
That second scene with the police, only on TV. Knowing what we know today, Uncle Phil and the misses would be in body bags, and the newspapers would just repeat whatever lie the cops put out about it. The only thing that is realistic and probably saved them is their social class. So it actually leaves a bigger distate in the mouth when you ponder on it for a moment.

Phil reminds me of my uncle. I miss my uncle. I miss him, Texas, and our house over there. He was more of a father to me than my real one. Just like Will, I lived a great life with my uncle. I would love to have that again in Texas.
