The poor dog is trembling because of your aggressive attitude. Terrible.
99% of the comments, judging the owner. 🙄
They need to be called out. Shih Tzu's don't have fur , it's like our hair . Do you go without combing/brushing your own hair or your child if you have them ? Of course not ! We're talking 10 minutes a day.
I know right 🤔 it’s crazy it’s OBVIOUSLY the dog that should be judged here🤦♀️
I really really hope some of you aren’t pet owners!
This is neglect end off 😡
And the fact that he's an amazing dog should speak of his parents. They may not be on point w the brushing but that OBVIOUSLY DO LOVE HIM OR HE WOULDN'T BE THERE!!! Show these people some grace. I think most people are trying to do the best they can.
I thought I was going to learn how to cut my dogs hair and she talking about calling the cops. Dis too much I’m out
No excuse. I have 5 shihtzus and a shorkie. Every day is a brushing! Every week is an ear hair clean and nail clip. Not to mention an also on a regular basis. That shih was total neglect bordering on cruelty! !
I agree. I comb mine whilst I'm watching the tv and she loves it. It takes minutes if you do this every day. No excuse at all.
Ask the owners if they want to rehome...I'll take him!
Jennifer Newberry that’s sweet. 🙂
JiMMYv NYc you're very rude. There is no need for your negativity.
How is he not freaking out and crying? OMG he's such a good boy
He's probably very thankful to be getting rid of it!♥️🐾
What a heartbreaking case. But your demeanor made me so nervous -- I can only imagine how stressed the poor dog felt. :-(
The dog seems to know you’re helping him!
The dog is soooo docile! What reason for the owner not to brush him :(
Maybe they cant afford to get him groomed all the time? To even bring cops up because a guy doesnt bring his dog to get groomed often is crazy lol my mom is a groomer its never cheap and some people cant get it done im sure as often as they would like so your right you say you shouldnt judge as you go and judge them smh
Still no excuse, you can get a brush and comb for a couple of dollars. It's animal neglect
My point exactly!! U said it all smh 🤦♂️
@Miss. Aza Australia and a pair of scissors if they do get Matt's. I have a rescue who won't let me brush him but I can cut his fur with much less hassle
I don’t agree with you! If you can’t take care of your dog then don’t have a dog. It’s not about paying for grooming is about loving and taking care of them.
@@miss.azaaustralia6729 a brush and a comb doesn't necessarily fix matting.
One day in late july my parents and I saw this little redish brown blob of fur walking down the street while we were driving home. My dad felt sorry for it so he pulled over.
I got out and called to her, she came running like the happiest matted mop I'd ever seen and jumped all over me. I asked a few people if they knew who she belonged to... no one knew, so we took her home.
On inspection, I discovered that the little mop was in fact a small dog. Her hair was so matted that she couldn't see a thing, she had an old flee collar which indicates she onced belonged to someone, and all sorts of oddities weaved within her fur. Some of which included fishing line, a kind of net, and of course the classic flee or two.
After the little mop was introduced to our petey (a small white pup of mixed origin), and fed a proper meal, we got straight to grooming.
First we removed the collar and as many of the junk as possible. Then with some of my dads haircutting scissors we got to hacking at her dreaded locks (pun intended). Although it took hours, she stood perfectly still and relaxed.
Eventually we uncovered a small dog who now goes by the name of Summer. She is the sweetest, most tolerant and human friendly dog I have ever met. She is a fierce protector when the cats come calling. She has a bestfriend named petey. But most of all she is my good girl.
He was probably moving around at the end because he was just so happy that he could... it's really sad. Poor little guy. Those nails must have been so sore while he was walking.
I cannot believe how sweet that boy was. Such a good dog. I would have just shaved the damn beard off. It’s going to get matted again. And those nails. Broke my heart.
I’d almost be afraid to give them an ultimatum. I’d be worried not to see him again. Wondering if they are getting him groomed at all.
Thank you for what you do Dee Dee
He deserve a big treat afterwards such a grwat dog
I brush my shih tzu everyday, she still gets matted, it is very difficult to find a dog groomer in this area because none are accepting clients, so videos like this are helping as I intend on trying this myself but will go much much slower
I agree
I would not leave a mustache, the owner need to give you a mat free face if he wants that special feature!
I say off with his mostache! Its not worth it! Poor little guy!
JiMMYv NYc as she should. You wouldn’t have to pay so much if he dog was taken care of
I mean i know that the owner didnt get their dog in when they should have but!! I do think that this owner did the right thing by bringing the dog in for grooming. I would much rather have them bring them in later rather than never. (I havent watched the whole video yet so i havent seen the extent of it.)
SUCH A WELL BEHAVED PUP. Thank you for taking care of him.
The owners are such a-holes!
Dog is shaking she is a harshed groomer!
Potential dog owners have a choice. Pets do not. I think this particular dog groomer is a saint for even entertaining taking that dog in AGAIN in the SAME sad condition that it was brought in for originally after she advised the owner of the Basic Essentials to take care of that kind of dog in the first place. And since she is a professional that has been doing this for years and has the patience and compassion for the animal that she grooms she's entitled to her opinion of any owners - she's seen all types over the years so I'm pretty sure she's good at spotting neglect and abuse.
Croy is transparent and accountable and I respect her thoughts and values. Just housing an animal doesn't mean you're caring for it the way it should be. There's always the option of asking friends or family for help to care for an animal temporarily if you fall on hard times but if you feel it's a long-term issue then do the selfless thing for your pet and arrange a better living situation for them with people who have time to and can afford care for all their needs. A lot of the time the problem is that people don't research breeds before they adopt or buy and that reeks of IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR no matter the reason.
I don't think enough people are informed that its extremely important to brush their dogs hair. I know it seems like common sense but sometimes people are just dumb for example when i was little we had a dog and we never brushed the poor dogs or cut his toe nails but my parents never really knew how important it actually was. Which is why i think if your ever going to get a pet you should defenitly do some research on it because its never simple.
This dog was so well behaved, he deserves so much better.
Hes loving it he knows that your doing him a favor and cutting his hair .dogs are just like humans uf a human has a bad hair day we feel really bad or if we have a bad clothing day we feel bad dogs are the same way if there hair ia so natted and bad and just iver grown it makes them feel bad .hes gonna feel so good when hes done ..hes lovin it. Great job pup.. 🐶
Dede... how could he be mad... he feels so much better... he would hug you if he could!!!
I would have trimmed the beard shorter, not short, but shaped it up. As long as that is, and given that they don't brush and bath this dog it's going to mat up again and shorter beard would be less likely to get as caked in food and stuff.
I know this is an older video and you may not see this comment but I am so impressed with how kind you are to this dog. I can see Clearly that you love your work and you love these animals that you grew this is more than a job for you. Your heart is so good for these animals. They are so blessed to be able to be brought to you. This dog that you are grooming right now is behaving so well because he knows that you are helping him. And for all we know you may be the only person that gives him any attention at all. Animals know when people are being kind and they can tell when people have evil intent. If you did not have a good heart I feel this dog would be able to tell. God bless you.
Aweee poor baby is shaking 😭 I swear I hope he hasn't been abused in his past
Poor baby was scared of his own shadow.... he hadn't seen it in awhile, Thank you Dede.
Sour grapes much..... she should have charged more
JiMMYv NYc Was she supposed to do it for free? Lol. You're funny.
He is the sweetest Tzu! I can only imagine how painful his pads are and not even whimper or snapping !
My heart breaks for this pup. So glad you are grooming him. At least they took him to her.
Did i just watch 45 minutes of a person grooming a dog?
Yes. And did i fricking enojoy it?
Yes.
What a lovely boy he was so good and calm. The owners should be ashamed at his condition, brushing a dog is a joy not a chore - if you love them. Well done Dede.
So, nobody is perfect, and you’d be surprised how many people simply don’t know or understand how often their dogs need to be brushed. Everyone makes mistakes as parents. Judging others is not helpful at all.
My dog is relaxed like c that too. They just love the attention. Any kind of attention
This has to be the sweetest dog I’ve ever seen. Such a good baby...
I rescued a 12 year old blind Shih Tzu that had suffered most of his life due to this kind of treatment . His eyes were permanently damaged. He was great dog with an awesome spirit. I had him 4 years , wish I would have had him all 16 . Despite being blind he navigated really well and played with our foxhound everyday . Shih Tzus are awesome little dogs .
You did a wonderful job. I have always had shih tzu's. This video broke my heart. I hope he (dog) finds someone to love him.
The Lorax
I love how sometimes when an owner asks for a particular style, you take one look at the poor condition of the dog and go "nope, screw your aesthetic, it's all coming off" xD Obviously this wasn't quite the case with this /particular/ video because you did manage to salvage the beard, but I just love your practical, no-bullshit attitude haha. Keep up the awesome work
Lol nope it’s all coming off 😂
She is a shaver..not a groomer.
😂
"Leave a moustache"??? I don't think the owners care even the slightest!
25:08 he knew you were going for that last paw and kept lifting it for you that killed me what a good boy
I feel so sorry for that dog 😥 he such a sweet little boy and it's shocking to see the owners let him get to such a state. On the plus side they did take him in for a groom but a little late as the mats look so bad 😥 I started dog grooming lessons in my animal care course and we had a shih Tzu who was matted under her armpits and ears and tail. We managed to get the Matt's out of her ears and tail as the owner requested a fluffy face and tail but we shaved her short everywhere else because she was so matted. It was the first time I had ever shaved a dog and I was happy with the results. She was so beautiful after a good bath and groom 😁
Dog: *looks around* wow I am a lot taller than I remember
Now i understand why the 3 groomer we went are very nasty to us because they were complaining that they cannot do what haircut we want due of his fur has matted but my baby Chewie’s hair was not that bad like this poor dog. Only problem was underneath of him between legs and his back. So now i just tiok him to the new groomer and i hope it will come out nicely and clean. Coz i learned and still learning how to take care of your dog.
I brush my chewie everyday single day.
Thank you for the video it really helps.
When she started kissing the dog i started to miss my dog btw he's on the other room, sleeping😁❤️🐶
You're absolutely right in reasoning as you do. You provide a service and run a business first.
You can try to make people understand, especially by setting FIRM boundries about what you're willing to accept, but in the end, it is not your business to take TIME and FALLOUT from reporting your customers.
Life ain't easy, and you have to pick your battles, people.
Fantastic pooch, I wish he had owners more deserving of him!
Just Monika in
Watching your videos just reinforces that I want a short haired dog. I love brushing but I know I won't be able to keep up with a long haired dog
insidiousChaos honestly it's really not hard. I have two yorkies and I had kept the one in a longer cost for most of his life. (He is a senior now and it's just not as flattering with the thinner hair these days.) Brushing everyday is best, but honestly you really can manage a medium length coat with brushing every 7-10 days. I try to brush daily because they love it, but there are times when we often goes days or sometimes weeks when I am I'll. Professional grooming tends to depend on how you want them to look, which is why Dede says she seems some clients every 2 to 3 months. My boys tend to get cut at that interval because I am okay with cutting them somewhat short and letting them grow out from a 4 blade most of the time. As long as you can keep up with nail trims it's not impossible. Long haired dogs are only super time intensive if you want a more complicated style (aka super long flowy length.)
my dog looks like this after winter... it has nothing to do with laziness. When it's freezing cold outside, we're not going to be super short. And my dog gets a weekly bath. No fleas. Truly not neglected but even I didn't know I was supposed to groom him monthly. It's interesting to hear the other side perspective.
BOO
just yesterday i groomed my own fathers dog. I used a 4 blade on most of him, but some parts were so matted i had no choice but to use just a 10 blade and tell my dad why i did. hed told me "dont cut him too short and just trim off the parts he needs off". so i did.
people need to realize that these dogs need daily brushing, and constant maintenance. my dad is lucky i came over on time and his dog didnt look like this yet. but the first time i groomed, he was almost here.
Dede being soft with the dog makes me SOFT. My heart...T^T 💜💜
I'm amazed at how sweet and well behaved this dog was, considering how much you had to do with him in order to perform the transformation! You did an incredible job, Dede!!! I love watching the step-by-step work that you do for these dogs, along with your explanations. Thank you for all that you do for them!!!
😞 The owners don’t deserve such an angel... He was so cooperative and a very good boy 🤗
Poor furry baby he is so calm and gentle...
"Oh I Got Him" 😮😳😩 Gave me a mini heart attack
I don't even groom animals and yet I love watching these because I get to see someone do some amazing work. These doggy parents neglect their furry babies but at least we have people like Dede to make them feel better and show them some love
Yes..she talk to much...they paying you..just shut up😅
❤
she was throwing shots the whole time 😂
Right, I def get the frustration but 🤦♀️
When I see nails like that I get so upset I’m so thankful that you groomed him thank you Dede you a sweet heart ❤️
Poor baby. He was probably so thankful cause you made him feel better Dede🌺
He’s sooo cute!!! I love his giant eyes 👀 and smooshy face. You did an excellent job! Brushing my dog doesn’t take long, I make it fun with treats and lots of kisses. It’s a great bonding session! It’s a real shame to see this kind of negligence. He’s the sweetest. With holes in his paws and no complaints. 😢😢😢
Right I just found a maltipoo and have been taking care of it. It’s so matted and I found somewhere to do what she is doing in the video. I cannot wait for the hair to start growing back so that I can brush and bond with him
As much as I love your honesty and all that, isn't it a bit unprofessional to talk about these owners like this online? I mean, we all probably feel like the owners could try harder, but I feel a bit uncomfortable listening to you talking about the owners that way.
I work with children and believe me I've seen some bad stuff, but never would I ever talk about the parents or the kids like this and I certainly wouldn't discuss it with people outside work.
This is the most well-behaved Shih Tzu I've ever seen. I was getting flashbacks from the title of this to when I was an assistant, and had to watch. Beautiful job you've done!
You are so good Dede. The transformation was wonderful to see. You have a very generous heart for these poor matted puppies.
You need to walk a mile in someones shoes to understand what lead up to this dog being so matted. At least the puppy was brought in to be groomed instead of abandoned, which happens too often these days.
Wonderful!!
You scared 😱 me I thought you nicked the dog 🐶 he’s adorable 👍🏼👍🏼
I am a professional dog groomer from the Netherlands and I have been grooming for about 2 years now. I love seeing you work, as we have quite simular working style.
I see LOTS of matted dogs on a daily base, and I loved your comments on the dogs condition. I get really frustrated sometimes, but the people I work with and the dogowners don't seem to care much.
I hope to find some video's of you grooming the less behaved dogs. I sometimes feel like I'm actually wrestling my dogs, as they keep yanking their feet out of my hands and pressing their head down.
I hope to learn more through your video's, and keep up the good work!!👍🏼
That dog is adorable! The owners don’t deserve him whatsoever! They neglected him so bad! Sweet dog bless him 💗💙
What an amazing dog, he was so behaved despite all of that painful matting and those nails. I don't understand how owners can't provide the most basic of needs to their dogs. Sickening.
that dog must have felt so good gettting all of those mats and fur off of it
He did amazing, bless his heart. Hopefully they bring him in more often
He’s so cute! So sweet and well behaved. He def couldn’t see! 😢how did he eat ?!? And using the bathroom? I’d call authorities
Geez. If you want to have a dog breed such as this one that requires regular grooming then you need to commit and follow through with the appointments. You do amazing work!
Poor baby. So calm and gentle, real gem of a guy, well deserved of a good clip and being maintained. I hope the owners start to do what they need to do. Thank you for making the video, and for being real to the dog owners out there, and to us who watch.
Thank you very much for up loading this video, so dog lovers can learn from it, especially owners of Shih Tzu dogs. GBU
Thank you for showing him love. It's heartbreaking knowing he will go home to people who will continue to mistreat him :(
Came in looking like a hobo, left looking like a member of ZZ top. Love it.
Omfg I never knew I could be so mad at someone...that owner should have his dog taken away
I came to this video because I am trying to learn how to groom my shih tzu (we have never owned anything other than shepherds until we found our baby earlier this year). This video is very helpful. Our girl is nowhere near this little guy, but I had no idea how much I should be doing that I'm not. We got her groomed regularly in the Summer (kept it short for AZ heat), but we haven't been getting her groomed since it has been so cold lately. I'll definitely take her into the groomer this week because I see what I haven't been doing 😞 thank you so much for this video
You're incredible to take on such tough cases. In tears watching especially his feet.
Awww.... such a cutie!!!! 😘😍💖🐶🐕I Love his big googly eyes! I am sad that his owners don't take the time to care for his hygiene/grooming.
Puppers is happy to get a haircut, a bath, & nail trimmings! He is such a sweet dog! You did Great job comforting him, as well as getting him fresh & free from the discomfort of being matted & having over grown nails!
You Rock Dede! 🤘😎
Dear Dede and David, thank you so much for the video 😀. I must say as an avid lover of all pets, I wasn't sure if I was pissed off at the owners of this pet or just sad that this awesome fur baby was made to live like he was for so long. He seems so sweet and I think it's because you were helping him and he knows it. Once again Thank you 😊😀 Caroline
Poor buddy. Glad you were able to help him and hopefully the owners can start taking care of him
When we rescued our Shih Tzu Poodle mix he was even worse than this. Poor puppers. Thank you for helping him feel better 🥺🥺
Same
Give me this owner's name and address. I just want to talk....😡
your're saviour you did a great job hat's off to you ma'am. I love your style of grooming.
Thats why i always keep my shih tzu shaved
"Who cares man".
You are so right. Clean and free, love them for their character, looks are for the owners ego.
Brilliant job young lady.
If I had a dog that looked like this I would call him "chewie"..after chewbacca from star wars.
In regards to turning people in: we don't know what is going on in people's lives or why they have not managed to brush their dog..But at least they have acknowledged that something needed to be done and they took those steps. Abuse would be not doing anything.
Dede, I hope that you can get through to these people about how neglectful this is, because wow this was so infuriating to watch, i cannot believe how anyone could keep a dog like this. Thank you so much for your education and acknowledgement on this kind of stuff, let's hope the owners watch this and know better next time.
wonderful job! Thank you for saving this nice boy. He looks so happy now. I hope you find a loving forever home for him.
What a beautiful well behaved pup
Your trimmer blade seems nice and sharp. That hair is just falling off so easily!
GBSheridan not so much, I've seen other groomers with better clippers that are more efficient. This clipper set she uses is a bit slow.
This is a shame, I have a Shih Tzu that I brush every night, there is no excuse for this. This poor dog is matted, has to long of nails, and is not neutered I sure think that the owner does not care about him. They are probably using him for a backyard breeding situation!
I love that you are sharing your knowledge to the full extent of how to groom this dog and not just for self promo. You are enabling people to groom their dogs themselves if they cannot afford it and also bringing more awareness of how messed up it is to allow your dog to get in this condition. SpreadTheLove
That boy got to be the calmest dog while being groomed in spite of what he had gone through.
I'm not sure the police or court system would even think a crime has been committed. The dog is fed and watered, not showing signs of having been beaten... "so the owners don't brush it as much as you'd like, are you serious??? " is what they'd probably say, meantime YOUR shop is the one that would take the hit of lost business if owners started worrying they'd be turned in if they bring in the dogs...
The dog is in pain when it's matted like that. It is abusive. If the owner lets this happen again they don't deserve to have a dog, they barely deserve to have one now. If they didn't want to deal with brushing the dog they should have gotten a shorthaired breed or no dog at all, simple as that.
Do you realize how painful it is to be this matted? It's going to be pulling on his skin every time he moves, his circulation can be cut off and he could lose his tail, ears, or paws if it gets really bad. There's a huge risk in shaving matted dogs, the mats can be super close to the skin and because you have to use a close blade there's a possibility of cutting the dog. This is borderline if not straight abuse. Brushing your dog is a basic need for your dog and if you can't even do that, don't get a dog.
The dog is soaked in urine and isolated from the world because he is blind from his long, matted hair which covers it's eyes. Imagine what it would feel like for you to live daily with tight, matted hair and then for added pleasure, soaked in urine, feces and old rotted food; not to mention having toenails that are ingrown, curled and growing back into your toes creating oozing sores. If a owner decides they are going to be parents to a breed of dog that requires regular grooming, then that is what they should be doing. Agreed though, it is possible her shop might get negative feedback if she were to report something like this. Dede has always said, that sometimes we do not know the home life circumstances (dealing with a sick loved one, no funds, etc.).
Neglect is abuse
Ubetcha, totally agree. What the court would say also is .. "they took it for a groom, so they ARE taking care of the dog". There are so many cases of unwanted animals, severely neglected pets, this would get you laughed out of court. Also, think of it this way, if someone like Dede reported them, then they might just stop taking the dog to any groomer and the situation could get worse.
What a sweet baby. Those people don't deserve him, they can't be bothered to take care of him even for aesthetic reasons.
Thank you for this video! We have four shih-tzus. We've been going through some major life issues and grooming had to be put on hold. My children took on the daily grooming responsibilities and they all looked brushed and well maintained. When I went to bathe one of my girls, I saw that she was actually badly matted right against her skin. I had no idea because her hair was beautifully brushed; they simply hadn't been going all the way to her skin. We love our dogs and were so sad to see it. We probably seemed cruel but were simply incompetent. Thank you for not calling authorities on them!
Shave that stash!!!!!!
That’s just pure neglect! You’re right it does piss us off too!
Thank you, Dede, I really appreciate you taking the time to show us how to groom our dogs Love you videos heaps xx Gail xx Adelaide South Australia
Poor baby couldn't see a thing and still has so much love to give. What a cutie pie! Great job, Deedee!
Poor little guy.so patient. I rescued a Lhasa apso who made this look like nothing though.he was so matted he couldn't move his legs to walk or even sit.hair glued to his eyes, ears so badly infected there were maggots in one of them.way too far gone for a groomer. I had to ask our vet for help, so he was anaethsatised , shaved bald and disinfected.the smell was astounding.poor little man was so cold afterwards, but immeasurably happier.
