  • Sundays are meant to be rest days, even God had to rest on a Sunday, but I didn't. Does that make me... 👀...
Anyway, our family friend required our service due to their vehicles needing our help.
Their Ford Fiesta needed a full service but with a small catch, they wanted to use their own parts; well, watch what they brought!
Shortly after, we also did their cambelt and water pump on their Volvo XC90- at least with this one, decent parts were used!

Volvo D5 timing belt replacement is a nice straight forward job if you know what you are doing, As for the water pump if factory Volvo leave well alone, Genuine Volvo water pumps are legendary! My 2003 Euro3 D5 is on 242K miles on it's original water pump with no issues! The biggest flaw with the D5 is the auxiliary drive belt failing/Fraying and getting dragged up by the timing belt causing major engine damage due to a poor timing cover design by Volvo, Put a front end auxiliary drive belt kit on it when you do the cambelt, I did it to mine and INA do the OEM kit for about £115.

The oil filters usually tighten with pressure over time. I know this as I change my own every year, I do it hand right but the following year I have to get a tool on it.
Unless you have the 2.0 TDCi Peugeot engine found in fords that for some reason loosens itself off over time.

Used to work for a small franchised motor factors years ago for a small period of time and I can honestly say there’s nothing wrong with the drivetec oils, they make many many different specs of oil to meet all the requirements. We stocked a massive amount of all the drivetec oils and a small batch of comma oil, all and I mean all the trade customers used the drivetec, no problems I heard whatsoever. In regards to the castrol oil checker it’s recommendation is wrong. A pre facelift mk3 focus only takes 5w-30 wether that be zetec or a PSA diesel, Would be correct for a facelift however (did 4+ years at Ford)

we always use Castrol or Mobil oils and oil filters/ Air Filters we always use Bosch, Mann. Castrol Magnatec or Castrol Edge. never had any issues at all cars love these oils and oil filters. u can use 5W30 instead of 0W20 if your car consumes oil or has over 70,000 mileage. OW20 oils are too Expensive and its very hard to find Castrol or Mobil 0w20 4litres or 5 litre ones in our local carpart shops.

It annoys me how expensive the specific oil is for wet belt engines. For example the psa 1.2 pure tech recommended total ineo first 0w30 50 quid for 5 litres.....a contact at stellantis advised if you don't use total oil ineo first (or the othet approved 5w30 total etc) the belt will degrade due to specific formulations.

I never buy cheap oil when I service my car or my wife car I use shell helix ultra on my car and Castrol edge on the wife car. The cheapest oil I have used was that euro car parts QX stuff on a corsa C that I was using for a daily run about for a couple off months while I was waiting on my new car still gave it service because it needed it however if I was planning on keeping the car I wouldn't use the QX stuff it does seem ok though . oil is the life blood off the car I don't feel cheeping out on that is a good idea. I am not A brand snob either but when it comes to cars you got to use a quality oil if you want the engine to last same with car tools I only use Halford Advance they are good quality and well priced , when I first started repairing my own cars i started off with some cheap tools form B&Q and to be frank they where crap lol , I Decided to invest in some nicer ones and a mate recommend the Halford advance ones so I bought a set and it was like night and day and never used anything else since just keep adding to them I still got the 90 piece set i bought 10 years ago and they still work a treat and never failed me. The 1.6 Duratec engine is a decent little engine that engine if maintained correctly has a lot of life left in it why ford went over to the eco boom engine is beyond me. the power steering reservoir bottle is cheap as chips cost me around £15 a couple off years backs when I had my MK2 focus it snap when I was changing the power steering pipe , very simple to change to. I had the same issue on my old mk2 focus with the filter being to tight ( my fault ) I just banged a screwdriver in like you did but I just kept the screw driver in and used that to loosen it off. Really enjoying your videos by the way on nights and your channel keeping me entertained while on duty 👍
