Important read if you are traveling on a Cruise from Civitavecchia coming back to Fiumicino airport.
MSC Divina cruise to Sicily Siracuse, Malta Valetta, Santorini and Mykonos.
We have separate Vlogs for each of these destinations. There are some highlights, but this Vlog is centered around the facts of this cruise. There is one point that the food that was served one night was inedible in Black crab Restaurant. Whole dining room returned their meals. Our room was good, but its location was terrible, we had a utility room 2 sides of our cabin, crew were working banging on walls every night on cruise, this utility room was access to lower decks. What I really want to talk about here is when we arrived back to Civitavecchia. We were supposed to get train to Fiumicino airport.
Nothing was as it seemed!!!
Disembarking of ship in Civitavecchia was ok, as there was a shuttle bus provided by MSC cruise line for 6 Euros to get to Train station. We had researched before we left Australia and it should have been easy, trains on internet running all day at intervals. We knew there is no uber and no taxi at train station, only in city center there is taxi.
We proceeded to the ticket office to buy tickets to Fiumicino airport changing at Ponte Galeria station from main line. We were told the first train on that line today was 1:15 pm! If you look online even now it will show you that these trains run all day. Our flight was at 3:30 pm. it was impossible to do this. We had to make a quick decision and bought tickets to Rome Centrale then we could get taxi for 50-euro flat rate from Rome. It was 9.50 am. We jumped on train as it was 2 hours to Rome and no other train running at this time. I am sitting with Irina and I look up at departure board in train, 10:58 am. Train sat in station until 10:58 am. It was not scheduled to leave for over an hour, that meant we would not arrive in Rome until 1:00 Pm. It continued to wait until it filled up with passengers from cruise ship, all passengers with suitcases and no luggage racks on this regional train. What a mess! There was luggage on seats, luggage including ours in the way in Isle, people standing everywhere and conductor telling them they can't have luggage there in the way. Move to another carriage. This train system was an absolute joke, I do not know whether it is like this every time. Italia trains double booked us on other trains across Italy twice with prior seat reservations. On this regional train there are no reservations.
For 2 Hours the train continued in this mess, picking up more passengers on the way to Rome. We arrived at 1.00 pm, we then had to find Taxi rank, which was ok, there was good signage in Rome and had to run to Taxi rank. there are hundreds of taxis in Rome even though there was a large lineup it progressed very quickly, maybe 10 mins for 100 people. Taxi driver said he could get us there by 1:40 pm to Fiumicino airport. This young man was awesome, to get us there in time as we also had connecting flight from Istanbul to Dubai. We got checked in after stressed all day, and of course then Turkish airlines was 1 hour late departing, which almost made us miss our connecting flight anyway.
22 hours after embarking from cruise ship, we arrived at 4:AM in Dubai. Needless to say, we slept so well we then missed our awesome breakfast at The Premier Inn Dubai. That was the most stressful day that we had been through in years of traveling. WARNING! as we all know don't believe all your research on internet before traveling. If you look at our Singapore Vlog when we traveled out of Australia, there are train tickets you can buy at Changi airport, this is not the case, ticket machines are closed on station last 18 months, you can only buy minimum a 3-day pass. Be careful, research recent Vlogs, old Vlogs and Blogs are wrong sometimes as is some information on internet. Happy Travels and stay safe.

Fellow Aussie here, this is an excellent video thanks and very helpful for our MSC Divina cruise from Miami to Civitavecchia next April. We've been following the Divina FB page for a while and are going in with our eyes open in terms of expectations. We've done a lot of cruises but this will be our first with MSC. Your note on the train to Rome is also very helpful. We have used the train in the opposite direction and learned to expect anything when using trains in Italy. Thanks again!
