    "I'm so tall, I'm so tall. You raised me and then you let me fall". I have not heard Living on the Ceiling' for years. I miss the eighties alternative synth pop stuff. Ah yes. Kirsty MacColl. One of my all time favorite female singers from the UK. I was very sad when I heard the news about her accident. That song is fantastic. I am going to grab a copy of the 12" this evening. Excellent grabs Dale. I connect with your tastes in artists on a continuous basis~

      Hi Rob, I'm definitely on the hunt for Living on the Ceiling now. I hope you get a nice copy of the Kirsty 12". The ambient mix of the song is interesting. cheers Dale

    Speaking of my "Hit List" I'm putting that Atomic Rooster and National Health on it that you found. Those are my two favorite Pretty Things as well. I have the Madfish repress.. Very nice OG !!

      The Madfish label puts out great reissues but I couldn't resist having a lovely OG of Parachute

    Massive yes to that National Health album. One of my favourites. Must get some Atomic Rooster in my collection. Always loved that spooky cover on Death Walks Behind You.

      Death Walks Behind You is a great and spooky cover. I need to give the National Health album some time as there's quite a lot going on with it to take in...

    Hi Dale, great haul here, some absolute gems.
    I was not keen on Kiss In the Dreamhouse on first listen, stuck with it and now I think it's the best thing they ever did. It is worth a re-visit for sure, possible a few times.

      Thanks George I will make a point of giving the album some prolonged attention...

    Trimming the collection sounds good, but.. When I'm on a roll, I will keep going ! Soon, I will sell, maybe in a year or two. We're going to Japan again.. So, I have no choice ! Haha 😊 I am a firm believer in letting the records come to me, in other words, not having a plan. I will make a hit list overseas.. It might help. I do like 12" singles.. Great covers, and often, more than 2 songs ! A Kiss In The Dreamhouse is my favorite that you showed today, Dale ✌ Congrats on Abandoned Luncheonette, btw

      I'm trying to reduce the collection to a level where there's no filler (IMO). I think it's an impossible task, especially as my tastes are quite diverse and I'm very keen to hear new stuff. But I am enjoying the process (masochist). Good luck when you get round to selling and I hope it isn't too tough...

    Lovely copy of Parachutes, that's a fabulous album, I probably prefer that to SF Sorrow
    Likewise with the Atomic Rooster album..minty indeed!.
    Nice that you got to meet Richard and he gave you a freebie and a good deal.

      Thanks Rob, really enjoying Parachute. Not sure why having an OG has made me listen more intently (maybe the money)...

    There’s a real art to the 12” single remix. Blamange ‘Blind Vision’ is a good one. Depeche Mode’s ‘Never Let Me Down’ and Shep Pettibone ‘Behind The Wheel’ 12” Mix. Aha’s Sun Always Shines on TV 12” mix is great & Take on me and they all often slip through the net cheaply.Oxfam Romsey often has some belters. Chatted to Clive yesterday & his latest Prog acquisitions. I might being doing some record fairs soon, I’m in the planning stage. Richards a fantastic chap!

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 6 měsíci

      You need to make a series on 12" mixes for us newbies. I got a load of Depeche Mode 12s years ago and 'Never Let Me Down' was the only one I kept (luck not judgement I suspect). I was in Oxfam Romsey the other week and left empty handed which is a rarity as they usually have something interesting. Cheers Dale

    Hi dale .. always enjoy your preamble I’ve also never heard that Sioux .. i went to my first boot sale today and I bought a box of CDs I offered him £15 and he accepted i might make a video going through them . I’m always looking for 12inches it’s a fun rabbit hole 👍

    Hi Dale. I like the idea of going to a record fair determined to only buy three albums and leaving it happy with the five albums I got. I don't buy 12-inches as my turntable is faulty and only plays at 45rpm after a good kicking. It wasn't me that showed that Hall & Oates, I've only ever owned the one with the silver cover and I purged that a couple of years ago.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi James, I was pretty sure it was you, so now wonder who it could have been. Hope you get your turntable fixed before you've kicked it to bits...

    I have a copy of that Hall and Oates LP (thrift shop find). I like it more than I thought I would. I have never heard anything by Atomic Rooster or National Health. I'm looking forward to the next Toronto record show, but I have no idea when that is happening. . .

      I was surprised by the Hall and Oates too. I only had the hits CD of theirs because my wife like them...

    Hi Dale. I’m interested to see where your 12” single rabbit hole will lead to. You’re right about some of the mixes being a bit dodgy but, when you find a good one, it’s all worth it. Someone gave me a copy of Duran Duran’s ‘Skin Trade’ on 12” recently and that’s a right treat. I quite enjoy spinning some 12”s on a Friday evening. Feels like the start of the weekend. Cheers

      Thanks John, I'm sure there will be plenty of mistakes on the way but I'm keen to learn...

    I just went to a record fair yesterday. I left with only 3 fairly expensive albums. I had a list but could not find what I really wanted. I had self control Dale!

    Some really good pick ups Dale. I’m having a big FOMO moment because I have bought loads from Clive over the years and it sounds as if he had a really good collection arrive. But well done with the Atomic’s and Pretty Things and I love that Blancmange 12” cover. Mike

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi Mike, Clive says he's getting the collection in stages, so there should still be plenty of chances to grab something interesting. Cheers Dale

    Pleased to hear the Blancmange 12" is enjoyable. The lead off song is on their second album titled 'Mange Tout' - see what they did there!
    Maybe Harris will write the definitive guide on 12"s and all of their remix mysteries!
    I dug deep in my pocket and ponied up for one of Clive's 'monsters'' - a record on a personal 'wish list' for the last year and he had to have it boldly on display to draw me in I am sure. Anyhow, it did!

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi Richard and thanks again. Yes Harris needs to write that guide or film a series. Wow need to see which 'monster' you got from Clive in a future video...

    Hi Dale - Great video! Very restrained in only buying 5 out of 3 albums. Interesting Kirsty McColl 12” single. There is a great CZcams video from Word in Your Ear that features the lady who did the sleeve notes on that Kirsty CD box set. Being an Aberdonian and Scotsman there is no way I would spend £700 or £800 on an album and that would include one signed by Jack White or all the Who including Keith. I must check out Pretty Things. Cheers Bill

      Hi Bill, 5 out of 3 ain't bad...I think that's what they say? I'll look out that Word in your Ear video as I try to watch most of them. Pretty Things are well worth exploring, especially Parachute or SF Sorrow. Cheers Dale

    The last 3 were all excellent pickups - especially the National Health which is a classic album. Have to admit I'm not really into the 12" single format - they take up as much room as a full LP for one with a lot less music 😁.

      @gatefold33  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Very happy with the three albums I got from Clive. Will see how well the 12" journey goes...

    I love the FGTH 12” singles. Generally 12” singles are a rabbit hole I possibly need to avoid. Having said that I have a fair few.
    I got Dreamhouse recently. Love cascades from that Lp. Not bad overall.
    I enjoy some Hall and Oates. Great duo. Did some wonderful songs. Love their hits. She’s gone is brilliant. That’s the best song by miles on that Lp for me. I saw National Health live once. They were supporting Steve Hillage. Bloody odd and weird band There a reason that record hasn’t been played 😂.
    Got a twofer of SF sorrow and parachutes. Decent album
    Cheers Dale, chris

      @gatefold33  Před 6 měsíci +1

      FGTH 12" singles have stood the test of time well, unlike their non-single material. There's a lot to try and take in with the National Health album, I need to give it time I think and ensure I don't stick it on the shelf...I had the Pretties twofer which is a great way to get decent pressings of those albums...

    ah you are restraining yourself well good to hear. Car boots the way to go. !2"s unless you know or are into certain DJs/remixers its just trial and error I think. Titles give away styles extended remixes aren't often that interesting.
    My mate just asked about the final Wycombe Wanderers got to so I'm considering it as not been to new Wembley yet.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hopefully I can find some 12s at car boots so the mistakes won't be too costly, as I'm bound to make plenty. I haven't seen Wycombe (or anyone else) at the new Wembley either, all my trips were in the 90s

    • @Thevinylscavenger
      @Thevinylscavenger Před 5 měsíci

      @@gatefold33 me too I went quite regularly to old wembley (including Arsenal's usual disasters into Europe - we didn't play well there) I did see Wycombe fa trophy 🏆 final(s) too. Games were cheaper then and more accessible. Enjoy your car boots now the season has started again.
