    About Spectre Sound Studios:
    I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
    We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
    Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!
    I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.

    • @givemeajackson
      @givemeajackson Před 2 lety +1

      i'd claim the complete opposite. i have an ironball, i LOVE it for cleans cause you can open up the poweramp and really get some life into it without breaking up. but for the high gain it sounds way better if i route the FX send from the ironball to the FX return of my Engl Blackmore. the ironball's poweramp doesn't handle the low lows and the high highs perfectly in my opinion, it sounds kinda nasal compared to the blackmore's poweramp. something that seems to be true of the fireball 25 as well compared to the full 100 watts version, despite that being an el34 poweramp as opposed to this one's el84. the bigger poweramp just seems to let the amp breathe much more, even at low volumes.

      Honestly if the ENGL sound does it for you, their amps are phenomenal -- not really a Fender or Vox clean, but easily top 5 cleans for me, and the distortion tones you get out of the buggers are basically *the* sound of European metal over the past couple decades. I'd go for one myself if it wasn't tough to integrate with my current rig and if they offered something in a size/wattage that works for me.

    • @donewithmodernlife
      @donewithmodernlife Před 2 lety

      If versatility is your top priority then I’d pass on the Morgan. They’re awesome amps but not particularly feature rich. If you want a good pedal platform they handle effects well but no metal drive channel. A Mesa Mark V would be an outstanding choice for versatility, lots & lots of tonal options there. I’ve got a PRS MT15 that punches well above its price range. More gain than I’ve ever needed & a lovely clean channel. Revv G20 would be another recommendation; you get the Two Notes stuff with that one as well as the tonal versatility. Good luck on your search my dude.

    Glenn, my friend, you gotta slow down on the promotional emails. Please, I beg of you.
    I don't mind getting the occasional email saying the same thing but putting it in a different way for the same promotion 3 or 4 times over the space of a week or two, and I'll sometimes read them because I usually get a laugh out of it even if I'm not interested in buying it, but the metal mixing course you've been promoting lately has been absolutely off the charts, and they all wind up going straight in the trash.
    3 or 4 emails a day for more than a week just comes off as incredibly desperate rather than eagerness to share a potentially good offer for a prospective customer.
    I don't want to unsubscribe because I want to continue supporting Specre and have bought stuff from Spectre in the past and don't want to miss out on any deals you've got going. But I'll have no choice if this is the way Spectre will be marketing their wares from here on out. It's too much.
    I get it that you've got a business to run, money to be made, mouths to be fed and all that, and I'm probably gonna end up as Butthurt Of The Week in the next Viewers Comments episode, and that's totally fine. I get that, and am wearing to bear the crown if that's what it takes to get my message across.
    But, for the love of Crom, and all things cromulent, please rethink your marketing strategy, because I surely can't be the only person on your mailing list that feels this way.
    Oh, and I almost forgot.... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU

      @Kannonify Před 2 lety

      @@SpectreSoundStudios Well that's just the thing, will I even want to live in such a world?
      Hey quick question while I've got you
      (actually it's not that quick at all, it's pretty fuckin' long to be honest)
      The other day I was listening back to a song I've been mixing and heard what I thought was a nasty resonant spike poking out from the mix.
      I went back and swept through everything to isolate and eliminate it, but couldn't find the source of the problem in any of the isolated tracks.
      A little later I was in another part of the room - where I had been standing earlier when I thought I heard the spike - I realised it was the (ducted*) air conditioning creating a whistle with the door I had left slightly ajar. I found it weird that it was only audible in certain areas of the room (but glad it doesn't effect where I sit whilst working on mixes) When the door to the room is either closed or all the way open, the air con is whisper quiet when it's running and this doesn't occur, at least on a humanly audible pitch anyway, it's not a problem. I just thought it might make an interesting point to go over in a future video - elements of your listening environment that may deceive our ears while mixing and things like this to be mindful of.
      Like I was wondering how much of an impact a ceiling fan might have on what we're hearing... They can sometimes be practically silent if they're built well and don't create any mechanical hum or knocking, but since the things we hear is heavily influenced by our surrounding and how the vibrations bounce off of walls and the objects within the room before reaching our ears, can an operating ceiling fan actually manipulate the soundwaves that pass through the spinning fan blades before they reflect back to our ears, and will the resulting sound we hear be influenced in any detrimental way that could influence us to make poorly informed decisions when mixing?
      I remember as a kid we though it was funny to stand and talk into an upright fan because it makes a natural tremolo effect. Ceiling fans are too far away to have such an extreme effect obviously, but I'd be curious to know whether it is would generally be advisable to not have them them running while mixing as it would give a false/distorted/representation of what is being heard?
      I make a point of mentioning the room has ducted air rather than a whole split cycle system whirring away all day. I can only imagine the levels of abuse that would get leveled at me if that was the case...
      That makes me think of another point - since heating and cooling are always going to cause background noise issues in mixing and recording environments, how does the average professional engineer/producer keep themselves cool and from sweating smelling like an ape during the warmer months?

    Glen is a great guy - knowledgable and funny but his riffing technique is just awful.
