Here's my first video from my resent trip to Germany where i attended Henning Pauly's 42 Gear Street Three event. The event was awesome, and I had the pleasure of not just working and collaborating with many of the biggest names in the CZcams gear community, but also producing some great content with some of the industries leading brands. In this video my self and Andy "The Guitar Geek" Ferris, (with cameo by Max Solo), give an overview of the ENGL Ironball Special Edition 20 watt head. This compact head features on board IR's, Power Attenuation, Digital Reverb, and Delay, as well as a Noise Gate, Gain and Volume Boost! The head is fully programable and features Midi. Stay tuned for for 42 Gear Street Three videos.

I love mine, what I like the most about it is, the versatility. It looks like straight a Metal high gain amp, but seriously, nice cleans, crunch, high-gain cleans, and hard rock vintage sounds. It delivers pretty much also Jazz, Indie Rock, I think most of the genres in my opinion. The effects feel so quality as well. Plugged in headphones, and loaded IR's it changes the tone significantly, more variety there too.

This is my favorite amp I have- out of a blackstar, and my mesa mark v 35. Great amp, super intuitive interface and the sound is brilliant.

Bought one last week before seeing this video, this video does a great job showing how good it really is. Engl knocked it out of the park with this one!

This amp is a little BEAST. With something like an HX effects you could make presets on the HX and switch channels and settings via MIDI for a great hybrid rig.

Ooohh! Great review guys! Seems like a cool "little" 20-watter.
Bet, pairing it with one (or more;)) of those colourful 3-knob pedals from IK Multimedia with MIDI io capability, you're humbly showcasing behind you there, at the wall, would make an overall versatile and killer tone rig 🤔

I found it a little fizzy but that can easily be solved with a different IR, the features seem killer on this. Great for those doing smaller tours and need clean and driven tones maybe with just a few fx and a midi board. This with a rack midi fx unit could cover so much ground.

Engl E212VB Pro CABINET, ENGL Z9 FOOTSWITCH and ofcourse the Engl Ironball SE will cost you around 2000 euro's.

just got mine about 2 weeks ago. still having some trouble figuring out how to load/view files on IR harddrive from my macBook. Engl emailed me a converter for cab files to upload but doesnt really work. anybody have any suggestions, ideas or some easy steps to do this? Engl seems to be a little slow in responding for support

hmmm not sure about that. I thought you simply plugged the amp into your computer and it shows as a drive. Is that not the case? Sorry I don't have one in my studio too try it with.

@@SixStringAlliance i finally got it to work. what's interesting is that the Engl hard drive was full already without any viewable files.
so, i bit the bullet and formatted it to clear it. well, it worked and it still had the 3 Engl IRs 1-3.

@@humble-san4408 It's got a file called Engl . db, and I just put the files directly into it. Did you use any converter or anything to drag wav. files there? How did you format?

    Ironball of Fireball ?
    I play metal , I know extra 5 watts is a bonus .
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

Sadly I've only used the Ironball, but Engl make great amps, so I would say go with what suits your needs.

Ironball is the one to go for metal, fireball sounds a little warmer, also this SE will save you hundreds of euro's spend on guitar effects pedals and cables to connect them ofcourse, also the fireball does not have IR loader and usb cable to PC.
the extra 5 watt will not do much is terms of decibels, the difference between a 100 watt and a 20 watt is around 7 decibels, the whole thing with 100 watt vs 20 watt is that you have more headroom for clean channel aka with 20 watt you will have quicker distortion when turning up the clean volume.
Also, with the fireball you have to buy a guitar pedal for solo leads since it only has 2 channels, clean and lead. The ironball SE has a Master Volume Boost that will give you 2 extra decibels when enabled for when you need to play a solo in a song.
The ironball SE will cost you 350 euro's more than the fireball but keep in mind that those 350 euro's (and probably more) are most definitely put in foot pedals to get certain effects on your amp that you already will have built in with the Ironball SE.
The only thing that you will have to buy extra with this Ironball SE is a z9 footswitch to store sounds on, the Z9 comes with 2 banks each with 5 channels where you can store sounds you made on the amp, that makes a total of 10 channels. Keep in mind that the EQ (clean gain, lead gain, bass, middle, treble, lead presence and lead volume) is not storeable this means that whenever you make changes it will also change the sounds you stored, the only thing you can store are the effects you put on your sound (m.v.b, reverb, delay, noisegate, gain boost etc...)
      the z9 footswitch is around 190 euro's.
Also both come with a powersoak this means you can change wattage from 20 to 5 to 1 or to none so you can play in your bedroom without blowing your windows out or bothering your neighbours.
So my advice will be if you play metal go for the ironball SE the noisegate is fucking amazing man.

This amp need to have treble at 6 a clock and not more.Above that is start to sound too bright. Other then that its amazing.

I didn’t play it in that context, but if it’s any thing like the MESA Mini Rec then yes it would be fine.
