  • PEAK DISTRICT WALK FEATURING WILDBOARCLOUGH, MACCLESFIELD FOREST AND SHUTLINGSLOE
    “Summit of Shutlingsloe”
    Filmed 6th September 2016
    Post-production completed 15th October 2016
Although I spend a lot of my time in the Peak District, there is one corner of the area I don’t visit too often. Therefore, I travel to the quiet backwater of Wildboarclough, from where I start a circular walk taking me into Macclesfield Forest and then on to the summit of a hill known as the “Cheshire Matterhorn”…..
Filmed in the Peak District in the county of Cheshire. Locations include Wildboarclough, Macclesfield Forest, Trentabank Reservoir, Ridgegate Reservoir, Bottom-of-the-Oven and Shutlingsloe.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

    Brilliant.
The more of your films I watch Patrick, the more impressed I am with all the hard work you put in all by yourself to make them, and by your talents in being able to do so.
For years and years when I was walking a lot,Shutlingsloe from Wildboarclough was always right up there in the top two or three walks I must do next, but I never got round to it,so watching this film was wonderful for me,thankyou.
For years in my head and when speaking to people of planned walks I'v always said Wild-Boar Clough but if forever now be 'Wilburclough'
Thanks for another excellent film, liked the musical composition on this.
    Pete.

I'm not really sure the correct pronunciation of WIldboarclough, but a local friend calls it the way I said it here. This was my first walk up Shutlingsloe myself when I filmed this as well as the two reservoirs featured in the film. One of the good things about my filming is that it motivates me go to places I've not been before, as well as more familiar ones of course. The pub at the end I've often been to for a quick drink when I've had family coming to stay. Thanks again for the kind comments Pete :)

I used to live in the farm in the opening shot, born & bred there, and I worked at the Stanley Arms at weekends as a teenager. Now living in Tennessee and unable to visit home because of Covid restrictions, I've not been back for well over a year, this video has made me very homesick but I know this beautiful place will still be there for when I can return...

Beautiful hike Patrick. One of the Ethels on my list. That is a bit of a walk from the village. I like to get at least 2 Ethels in if I can but due to time constraints this may be a one Ethel day for me. Great hike, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Chris, been a few years since filming this walk, and I think I'd do it differently if shooting it today. A lovely walk all the same though. Thanks for watching 👍

Another gorgeous area of the Peak District, Patrick. So near to my home town of Buxton, but I never explored the countryside around there on foot. The church in Wildboarclough is a lovely building, adding to the serenity of the village. I never knew that there was a paved walk up to Shutlingsloe, such an impressive peak with grand views including Tegg's Nose and all the surrounding districts. I bet that was a grand visit to the Stanley Arms to finish off your walk, Patrick. Looks a real nice pub, restaurant and hotel. Many thanks for this presentation.

Thanks again Frank and Lee, it's a nice climb to the top of Shutlingsloe, not particularly hard either as, apart from the short final pull to the summit, it'a long gradual ascent which levels out a lot on the way. Cheers, Patrick :-)

Patrick you brought back many memories with this walk. I used to look after a lady who lived in Winlowe which looked out onto The Roches where she used to roam on tops!! when she was younger, just to stretch her legs!! Evelyn.

Wow, what a stunning location for a walk, not an area that I am familiar with either which made it such a delight to watch. I had to a double take when I saw the Summit of Shutlingsloe as it bears an uncanny resemblance to a landmark near me called Roseberry Topping (North Yorkshire)which is another Matterhorn lookalike!! Google it and you will see what I mean. The music for this video was awesome and suited it to a tee too!

Many thanks Jeff, I have indeed heard of Roseberry Topping, but not visited myself. Glad you enjoyed this film and the music too. Thanks again. Cheers, Patrick 😀
