  • Tip for installing post top KYB Gas-A-Just shocks. These shocks are very powerful and can be a pain to install in a application that does not have a lot of room. This is quick, easy and can save a lot of cussing and possibly a hurt finger.

    Your advice is spot on, was installing on a 64 plymouth sport fury I took one shock off and looked at it compared to the kyb, and it was Houston we have a problem. So I went to youtube and found your channel. it took me longer to compress the shock then it did to take the second shock off and install it.
    Thank you!

    i did this for some heavy duty van shocks but ended up taking my ball off my trailer hitch, put the shock shaft through the hole then used a small floor jack to compress the shock. Then used some 12g wire to hold it. Worked good.

    Solid tip that I never thought about. I'm more inclined to make things harder, cuss a whole lot and eventually throw one of my favorite tools across the yard.... never, ever gets the job done but it does feel good for a second. Then you have to go find your tool that you threw..

    Or just use some zip ties. That's how I got mine on a 65 barracuda.

    how long does the string have to be and what colour

    • @luckyorangutan
      @luckyorangutan  Před rokem +1

      Hi, The string length depends on the length of the shock and I like my string to be the color of my socks. I am into fashion big time. Have a good one.

    String isn't strong enough on KYB's for early Mustang . I used heavy nylon string for anchoring a tent to the stakes, pretty dammed strong stuff, it just snapped it. I had to use twisted bailing wire, which isthe way they should be doing at KYB to begin with. I'm not sure who the packaging genius is over there that made the decision to strap them from the top of the post to the top of the posts. You can't put the bushing on with it like that, and it requires and extra step to install. They should think less about their bottom dollar and little more about making their product easier to install for the end consumers.

      I intalled these on the rear of my 1968 Mustang yesterday. i used small diameter nylon rope but I like your idea of using bailing wire.

    Hey Bud, can i ask if these gas shocks are worth the upgrade, over the hydraulic any pros or cons i should contemplate before the swap? thanks in advance

      Hello, Yes, the KYB gas-a-just shocks made a huge difference in the ride and was well worth it for me. They keep the truck very stable and I can feel the added control in the front end with the steering wheel. As a matter of fact I am going to do a video about the difference. The only con I can think of is the install. That is why I tied them up. Getting them in up front would be a nightmare if you tried to compress them in place. I hope you like them if you decide to buy them. Thanks
