- Pokemon Competitive Singles in Gen 3 is full of creative players. Despite it's many shortcomings, Pikachu has an exclusive item called Light Ball that allows it to achieve an absurdly high special attack stat. This is an alluring concept that many Gen 3 players have experimented with.. to varying degrees of success. Is there potential for Pikachu in Competitive Gen 3? Perhaps.
This is insane.
Iron Mugulis and Iron Fellow know all about it. Old Money doesn't know a thing.

Some will never figure out how to get Pikachu in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. But famous player Jim Cool is well aware of the Best Pikachu Moveset in Competitive, and even how to Pikachu Shiny Farm. Many aren't and never will be. That's just the unfortunate reality of the world.

Scream Tail is the Jigglypuff of our wildest dreams. It has been buffed with some higher statistics and the incredible ability, Protosynthesis. Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on CZcams. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

Pikachu aside, I wish Rampardos got access to the ability Dazzling. As someone who loves Rampardos, most of my sweeps lose to priority.
@havierbardem820 Rampardos is bulkier than Pikachu. Faster with scarf. Hit harder with sheer force- boosted rock slide compared to thunderbolt. Also hit harder with head smash compared to volt tackle. Has good coverage in zen headbutt, superpower, earthquake and ice beam. Can pursuit-trap. Can reliably set up hazard with sash+head smash. The only good things that Pikachu has are speed and electric immunity. But why would anyone uses Pikachu when Raichu has everything similar but better? Pikachu gets completely outclassed by Raichu

In current games light ball also doubles Pikachu’s ATK stat which is higher to begin with and hits really hard with Volt Tackle
yeah but it still has a very low hp and terrible defenses, best case scenario you revenge kill a slower mon and instantly die to faster attackers (anything with at least 95 speed), priority or even the recoil
or get used as setup fodder by grounds

Something that's always given me a level of respect for GF is that they actually made the mascot character of the Pokemon series usable in virtually every facet of the game without actually making it overpowered in any. Even in competitive it's always been almost good enough. Watching someone bust out Pikachu in a tournament is like watching a guy whip out Mario in a SSBM tournament, you know it's a bad idea but you can't help but cheer for them.
Also this makes me want a video on the competitive history of Clamperl.
I get your point but mario is actually a very higly regarded character in smash competitive hes one of the highest skill cealing a character can get since most of his gameplay relies on the player itself good point bad example

Let's Go Partner Pikachu/Eevee trademark moves are absolutely insane as well. They did a great job buffing them to be reliable starters in those games.

The biggest issue with Pikachu is just use modest magnet 270 speed zapdos. It hits with the same level of destructive power but Isn't dugged and has real bulk. Alternatively use leftovers which would probably do more than magnet
The definition of a glass cannon, but it’s cool that pika has any niche compared to the other 3 electrics that are so dominant, and that SP ATK after the boost is crazy for Gen 3 .
Name a more iconic duo: Game Freak and screwing over Raichu
I unironically love using Pikachu in gen 9. Tera normal fake out and quick attack is pretty funny, but it actually becomes good in nat dex where you can use the event Pikachu with extremespeed. That with fake out and Tera normal makes it actually somewhat viable
This is why I love competitive play, Pokémon for years has always reminded people we haven’t figured everything out with the series and people seem to forget that this series can be very complex, like yugioh, so many combos nobody has figured out
you gotta do a vid on that insane miltank (so a miltank video in general), and how it was so badass in that gen 3 match. that was the coolest part of the series so far imo. so unexpected

I only started playing gen 3 when ADV revival was announced and even though i got eliminated i still love playing the format. Im trying to experiment with new teams and interesting pokemon. Im so glad i started playing this format, its the most fun ive had in pokemon in a while.
This is perfect for the ADV Revival finals, hope we get to see it!

It should only get a little buff in attacking stats and would be fine. 90/90 is abysmal..80/105 would make much more sense

in gen 9 pikachu received the nice buffs of trailblaze (which lets it cover its low speed weakness) and tera-ice (which lets it hit almost everything that resists electric).
unfortunately pikachu STILL is not good enough for OU.
it could use a few minor stat buffs.

I used to play with pikachu in a "water trap team". a threatening threatening water type or two, a pikachu with lightning rod and a miltank with sip sapper.
Basically the water types are there to lure grass or electric attacks, just to switch to the appropriate mon and start the pain, which in the case of the rat included encoring it into repeating the mistake a few more times.
Any decent player probably could see thru it, but it was pretty fun to wreck legendary spammers with it and get accused of hacking.

Yea i was hit w/ disappointment when i found out that pikas att was only doubled in gen 4+, he wouldve had really good options like brick break, focus punch and even quick attack. What a shame

pikachu is like a super glass cannon, compare that to slaking for example which has a higher attack stat still, is insanely tanky, faster and deals way more damage because it can use choice band and it has higher stab damage as well with hyper beam.
Light ball should have given Pikachu speed too.
On the bright side, Pikachu was S-Tier for a long time in Pokemon Unite.
I used to run red's team competitively back when gen 7 ou was popular, scored consistently in the 1600s with it too. I didn't run light ball, but instead a focus sash, endeavor set with quick attack since extreme speed wasn't move-slot compatible with endeavor. Nuzzle for speed control, and usually volt switch to either save pikachu/raichu for ☠fodder or to hopefully get off another endeavor/nuzzle later in the game. I don't play competitive anymore, but if anyone wants to run a pikachu I can guarantee that this set will at least trade one for one each game.

You know I don’t think we have actually seen a raikou in the tournament yet I can’t really imagine it doing much though compared to jolteon and zapdoes
It can work, just requires a lot of support. Zapdos is the most common electric cause it's totally self sufficient
Not seeing Raikou is extra weird considering we've seen volbeat and duskull put in some work

Okay... I know it would be a bad idea to take Pikachu's 50 base special attack, something that already reaches Kyogre heights when paired with Light Ball, and then almost doubling it... But I want Light Ball for Raichu.
Jimothy Cool, I have a question. How would both Raichu and A-Raichu stand in the metagame, if Light Ball would give them a +50% bonus to Atk and Sp. Atk?
Seeing pikachu and butterfree being used unironically is just one of the things that makes gen 3 OU great. (Well, for given values of OU.)

Butterfree does have a history in VGC Gen 8.
It had a niche role of being the best sleeper with Compound Eyes, Sleep Powder, a usable speed stat, and not many, if any, better options.
It also got a GMAX form for some reason.
They should allow Raichu to hold the Light Ball. No reason why he shouldn't.

So, unless talking about the anime, Pikachu is essentially a glass cannon, assuming the Pikachu is holding its unique held item.

I guess Pikachu plays similarly to Medicham, Marowak or even Slaking.
All mons with massive power out of the gate that despite their massive flaws, regularly tempt players to try and make them work but need a ton of dedicated support to do so

Honestly light ball should've just been an offensive eviolite for the entire Pika line so Raichu would actually be a compelling option. Pika was doomed to be gimmicky anyhow.

Light Ball got stronger overtime too. That’s why I used a Pikachu in a BDSP playthrough. Was annoying to get but it was like having a pocket Legendary Pokémon with those offensive stats lol

Exactly how does the math work for Light Ball's boost? I assumed it would be 50 SpA x 2 = 100 SpA, but obviously not if it puts him above Alakazam.

I think the idea of this comment is for cosmetics, basically the Pokémon evolves but still looks like its prior evolution.
I am terrified at the idea of the mind games that would be played in such an alternative timeline. For example, players nickname their Eevee “Eevee” and then evolve it, now you have no idea which Eeveelution they chose and the type/moves of the opponent. In other words, some mons suddenly become Zoarark but WORSE

Light ball boosts both of his attack stats though?
Gen 3 is before the physical-special split and Electric is a special type so it makes sense to just focus on special attack. Especially when you consider that the best coverage options of HP Ice and HP Grass are also both special.
It does not boost its attack in gens 2 and 3, started in DPP
