Nitecore MT2a Pro - shrsl.com/4clsb
Fenix has a slightly older light called the LD22 V2 that uses a similar battery, which they call the ARB-L14-1100U. In the case of the Fenix, it's a little lower capacity at 1100 mah, and it's 0.1 volt less (3.6 vs 3.7 for the Nitecore). Both lights say the respective batteries are custom to the light, but I suspect they could be swapped. I mention this because assuming it works, spare batteries are $13 on the Fenix site (which is also having a 20% off Black Friday sale). As for the light itself, they are very similar form factor. The Nitecore wins in efficiency and brightness because of the newer proprietary LED. IMO, the Fenix wins in terms of having more modes (including ulra low and strobe) and a momentary standard clicky. I'll take the Fenix because I need a lower low than 50 lumens for close up work and going through the house with dark adapted eyes (it's got a 2 lumen mode). That being said, the Nitecore retails $20 less than the Fenix.
Fenix is a brand I've been meaning to check out too! Nice suggestion🙌
@Rollshambo Fenix is the OG. Some other brands have been drinking their milkshake in recent years, but they still turn out an extremely high-quality product for the money
Looks solid. I agree about the spare batteries.
Battery is available seperately on Amazon for $14
Well now you have done it. You already encouraged me to move the Wuben X3 Owl up on my list and it will arrive shortly. I already had the big brother to this the Nitecore MH12 Pro, and already had plans on buying the even bigger brother, Nitecore MH25 Pro. So when making the order for the MH25 Pro, I thought about how enthusiastic you were about this light, so I added to the order. After all what self-respecting flashlight enthusiast doesn't collect the whole series? Technically these 3 are not the same series. But all 3 do use the UHi LED and have that crazy new pattern body styling. So the kids get one less Christmas present this year, they are adults, they can deal with it. 😁 😁
🤣 you can't stop the collection 1 light short!! That's why I need the x1 and the x0
Yeah it's a thing, I remember telling you earlier in the year don't get into flashlights. Like Nick likes to say don't get into watches, I always say don't get into flashlights 😘
@@TopDog8762 I don't listen too well hahaha
That spot and flood beam is really nice.
Seriously good beam on this one🙌
I got one of these in the first batch release. Great light, better than expected but I also hope they’ll sell replacement batteries for it. While being able to use AA batteries in a pinch is nice, that lower output they offer makes it less desirable than just keeping a couple of extra batteries on hand.
Oh I am digging all the flashlight goodness. Now we are going to do some deep diving. If you like the MT2A Pro, you must get your hands on its big brother, the MH12 Pro. The LED you mention is a Nitcore creation, I believe. The MH12 Pro uses the ; NiteLab UHi 40, more powerful, same round center beam profile that is the hallmark of this new-ish LED. You get Nitecores new NL2154, 21700 battery 5300mAh. Yes you read that correctly 5300 not 5000 like other top name 21700 cells.3300 lumens, 505 meters of throw at 63500 candela. Not bad for the EDC tube format flashlight. The same form factor but with the upgrades you mentioned like momentary on from tail switch. Here is the rub, it runs hot, really hot. Now the good part, I buy my Nitecores from Longhorn tactical, they have a coupon code 15 percent off over 50. So yeah you can get this big brother for just under 77dolllhairs. Happy Hunting
That's fantastic..I've been carrying this one a lot and I do love its si plastic but powerful operation..not sure why the oem rechargeable battery can't be purchased on its own yet but it could be a cost to manufacture vs what a brand new light cost so I'm not entirely sure if the juice is worth the squeeze..I'll definitely have to check out more nitecore torches these are pretty cool
There are 2 claims for this flashlight that are true-sort of. Yes, it will clip on to your ball cap, and it will also pull that cap down over your eyes if you move in any way, unless your cap is very tight on your head. And yes, it can stand on its tail, if it is on a perfectly flat, smooth, level, stable surface, and you don’t accidentally breath on it. Otherwise a great light, fits well in a Carhartt pants side pocket. Also can continue to be used while the battery is charging, with 2 AA batteries.
The switch is a reverse clickie, it can't provide anything momentary.
The long battery is built with two 14500 cells in parallel and a charging circuit. You can cheaply and easily build one, but it will not have a charging port.
I have the MT2A Pro, but I use it with two rechargeable NiMH cells. The 1000 lumens you get from the stick Li-Ion battery don't last for very long, so it is not a big loss.
It is a shame for Nitecore to not sell additional stick batteries though.
Regards,
Anthony
They do now
I've been looking for a modernized pen/inspection style light for pocket carry that isn't as heavy as my MH12 Pro. The only thing making me hold back is the current lack of diffusers for the Nitecores new lights. I want to be able to throw on a diffuser and have a flood pattern for my use case at work. As soon as those release, I'll be grabbing a MT2A Pro and some of their caps for both that light and my MH12 Pro.
Solid points, this seems very interesting and hopefully they do sell replacement batteries. On your point with AA batteries being single use, and ending up in a landfill, I think rechargeable AA makes that point invalid.
Also, momentary is not possible with a reverse clicky switch. They would have to put a completely different switch in this for that to work. Which kind you, this would be perfect with a forward and no mode memory.
Thanks for the video!
Personally, I am indifferent to the AA's being disposable or rechargeable, the issue I have is if AA's are the only option going forward, it is just another pen flashlight I could buy for 20 bucks.
Didn't take them long to offer spare batteries. Also before they did offer them rechargeable AA's are available all over the place. I know its half the lumens, but better than nothing.
I had a feeling that would happen, and yeah rechargeable AAs are always a nice back up for sure
Maybe you can use 14500 Batteries 2 pcs. Many lights that use AA batteries can also use 14500 batteries. Thanks
I bought the M2A Pro because it has 1000 lumen capability, but what it lacks is an ultra-low setting. 50 lumens is as low as it goes. I really miss not having a 5-or-less lumen option. 50 is just too bright for low light environment close-up work. Too much glare. Love everything else about it.
Goes on sale from time to time
Illuminating
Just checked, batt still not available in their website, with that said though, 500 lumens on 2AA is a massive win considering I cannot think of another flashlight with that output with this profile running on 2 AA batts. I agree though I hope they offer the battery at some point
Use Energizer Lithium AA if the included battery is dead.
Lumintop makes a battery like that i think
Just bought one , the pocket clip has no retention in a jeans pocket. That might be a deal breaker if i cant find a way to make it work
So it's a reverse click? 🤔
all these type c charging ports on the battery suck been through a few of these design the battery always gives out after 1 year of recharging .. i’ll prob pass until it has a dedicated charging port
Plenty of great alternatives with a dedicated port..but..you probably spend more on triple a batteries for a TV and home entertainment remotes than you would replacing a single one of these batteries on a yearly basis(they sell replacements now but didn't when I initially released this review) just some food for thought! Thanks for watching
They don't sell extra batteries?
Yeah don't buy until batteries are available guys. Force them to make batteries
Is it water proof?
IP68 water proof rating
I'm seeing the NL1416R battery available on Amazon now. (Doesn't ship to Canada, grrr)
If you use rechargeable AA bats is it still 500 lm ?
Flashlights with proprietary batteries are as useless as Olight flashlights once they die.
Except this one can live forever with AA batteries 😉 and I have a feeling that Nitecore will eventually make replacement rechargeable ones for this model but hey its a 40$ light and with replacement batteries typically costing 20-25 it becomes a question of whether or not it's just worth it to replace the light at that point
I really like my Warrior Mini 2. It’s just 2 years old, I have 2 spare batteries however the don’t last very long at all now and take so long to charge I don’t feel comfortable relying on it. And having to carry the proprietary charger is annoying
@@MichaelB2L is it really that bad? I mean as a European I can't even buy from their store with all their discounts. Although, It was never an option because of their proprietary chargers and batteries.
@@notion_fractal9818 The user interface is great, it feels solid in hand very nice to use overall but like I the batteries drain really quickly now. I only use around the house, might it on high for a few minutes once a week.
It’s a bit big in pocket for my liking. I’m in England and have ordered from the UK website a few times.
I’m always trying to reduce the amount of stuff I carry haha so the extra cable is just annoying but not the end of world haha. Also the Olight cables have been a bit unreliable at times, lights up green when the battery isn’t actually fully charged.
Like smartphones with built-in proprietary batteries? 😅
Hey! I really love this flashlight, but I'm unable to purchase this as i don't have enough money, is there by any chance could you please send me one here in India, i will be more than happy, please consider once🙂
