    Something I'd love to see - "The Battle of the Base Models". So many channels focus on comparing decked out vehicles, which is fine, but not everyone can afford these trim levels. I am assigned a basic 4x4 truck for work which gets replaced every handful of years. I've found that the Fords I've gotten have felt most fitting of the "poverty spec" nickname that we use, especially considering that they are missing features that GM and Ram include with their trucks as standard equipment. A comparison of each manufacturer's basic 4x4 trucks would be pretty cool.

    • @jamesvelvet3612
      @jamesvelvet3612 Před rokem +5

      Since most reviewers (all of them ?) don't own the trucks (manufacturer does) they can only test what they are given for a couple of days, Manufacturers typically are in the business to make money, they make that $$ on trinkets and gadgets that the higher trims have so they showcase them.

    No matter how small the engine it takes a certain amount of power to go 80mph in a truck. That amount of power directly translates into the amount of fuel used. Probably doesn't help that it is not fully broken in yet either. My RAM 1500 with the 5.7 HEMI drank a lot of fuel until I got about 1500 miles on it. Air lift 1000 is a great cost effective way to help when carrying loads in the bed or trailering. doesn't increase you capacity but allows the truck to ride better and maintain better fuel economy when towing.
    By far the best/ most cost effective lift is the Bilstein 5100 set a 2" and a 2" rear spacer paired with Bilstein 5100 rear shocks. It allows that truck to clear a 35x12.5. Yes, all you say is true, BUT, you get a tax deduction for the vehicle as it sits in the company's parking lot. So, to some extent you get a tax writeoff for the cost of the extra options., thus lowering your tax bill. And if the company leases the truck, your periodic tax deduction for a leased vehicle will offset (for the most part) all the extra equipment loaded into the vehicle. It seems funny the extent to which tax considerations influences which vehicle you get and how you equip it.

    I really wish they would have put this version of the 3.6 Pentastar in the Gladiator. Just that little extra HP and torque is really what it needs. I'll also say, as a previous owner of two 4th gen Ram 1500's, they get their best MPG at 65 MPH or less. At 70 and above it really starts to drop off.

    • @johnhufnagel
      @johnhufnagel Před rokem

      that's true of most vehicles. Years ago we did a "test" (think, last fuel crisis), where we made a common 330mile trip doing ONLY the posted speed limit, instead of the usual +10 to +15. posted, we got 35mpg. "normal" was 28mpg. but going slower was EXCRUCIATING. :D

      I think the power is limited in the jeeps because there is less room for the larger intake and exhaust that the trucks can fit.

      @@stanludorf2311 The higher output 3.6 gets stuffed in the Charger and Challenger with the shorter intake. Besides that, I own both Wrangler and Gladiator, there is plenty of room to fit the longer intake.

      It's really the same motor. Same in minivan, same in Charger, same in Jeep, same in Ram. Minor exhaust, intake and, tuning differences to fit the platform. Jeep engineers aren't dumb, they used what fits and what works the best for the application.

    Not a fan of adaptive cruise control, but I do agree that stock lower trim trucks should all come standard with LED head and tail lights, fog lights as well as blind spot monitoring. Back up camera's on the dash (not mirror) should also be standard on all trims.

    You *are* going uphill from Boise to Wyo. Used to be they didn't want you operate for long periods at the same rpm during break in. I'm betting after break in, and with 70mph cruising speed, you'll be getting more like 22mpg (on level ground with no wind). Also seems like high altitude is bad for mpg too. We'll see soon enough. I think it was a great idea to to get the Shortie Ram.
