This is the first episode in a new series I will be making entitled, "The Hut" This will be a bushcraft build series, where I build a large, group shelter on my property.
I plan to use this location to constantly improve the hut camp, learn new skills, dust up on old skills, and have a place to take my family out for some fun in the woods.
In this episode, I scout out the perfect location for the hut to be built, I find a big score of a bunch of peeled cedar logs to use to help build the hut. I haul those logs to the future hut site, cook up some bacon on a rock, and have some unusual visitors :)

I don't expect you to read all this, but I'm going to attempt to tell you how much your videos mean to me. I'm 70. All of my German Aunties and Uncles have passed. But, my 6 uncles were German and all outdoorsman and lived this Bushcraft life, as life. Just life. We would spend every summer hiking, camping, fishing and there would be a 'shelter' made by them for all the family as they would get Summer vacation time off. Nature walks, fishing ( my Grandfather was a fly-fishing champion for the State of California) fly-fishing, swimming in rivers and streams. Baby trout for breakfast cooked on the open fire, and then all gathered around the campfire in the evenings with Cigars (the men) and high-balls. So, when I watch your videos it's really like a nostalgic time spent with family from time past. Can't thank you enough. You have really found the secret to a good life. Bravo!! PS We had a German Shepard, Rusty, too.

My neighbor has a coyote problem and the guy hunting the coyotes spotted a german shepherd late at night running in the woods. Noticing the dog ran to him he realized it was a dog and not a coyote, but he made sure to let the owner know about the dangers of having a dog out at night. Two nights later he noticed a red flashing light running through the field...

about the charcoal you found. its possible at one point or another there might of been a forest fire or even controlled burn in area before house was built.

This brings back wonderful memories. To me bushcrafting is taking what we did as kids and putting more of a practical application on them while having fun. I grew up in NY right near Lake Ontario, our house was on a property similar to yours but with nearly 20 acres and a pond. As a kid I spent most of my free time playing in the woods, building forts, tree houses, swings, digging holes, catching polywogs, frogs and butterflies. Pretend fishing too, but I doubt there was any fish in our pond. Sticks, rocks and grape vines were my tools. I often camped in the woods in my dad’s old Army tent. I always came home filthy from head to toe, it was great. All grown up now and I prefer more sun, less bugs and less snow, so the high desert life it is for me. I still do much of the same, plenty of outdoor time filled with dirt, mud, wood, rocks and now fire to entertain me and fix good food over. Plenty of canvas tent camping up in the mountains too. I truly enjoy your videos, reminds me of the best of times from my childhood and inspire me to continue playing outside and trying new things. I’ve subscribed to many of your buddies youtube sites as well. All good stuff.

Great idea joe I’m all for anything that gives us more videos. It’s great you can have the best of both worlds. Lots of cool new content but still at home with the family. Less time on the road is a win win my friend. 👍🏻👍🏻

Like you I have a small woodlot. I have a summer and a winter camping spot. Summer one you can see the house and the winter one you can't. It's just a joy to be able to get out of the house and into mother nature. I enjoy hammocks so it's easy set up and take down. Good for the old mental health too. Good luck with your build and take care, Al

You are a huge inspiration to me and all of us. I started watching your videos and honestly its what kick started me into working a lot more on my own survival skills that I haven't done a whole lot with since my SERE days long ago and to throw in the bushcraft style into that knowledge. Thank you for doing this and sharing it all with us

It would be interesting to metal detect the area. Charcoal is generally a good indication of an old house place or campsite that may be very, very old. Man ....I would use the logs. Some of them could even be split out with wedges....Use it or lose it. Whiskey needs to push away from the table. Gonna be fun watching you build this.

    "The Hut Development Series".
A long time ago we had a German Shepard called "Monty". He was exactly the same as
"Scout". Without even thinking about it, you would be tossing firewood into the shed and just
when the satisfaction of being finished kicks in, you notice the 40 odd bits scattered over the
back yard. "Come on dog, one must be enough"!!!!! Never is.
    Great vids mate.

Can't wait to see what you do with the hut. So many possibilities with it being close to home to do a bit more than your average trip...work on skills, cooking different ways, teaching the girls and including them without having to completely take them to the middle of nowhere, having others over to learn new skills...having a bigger, more permanent camp...more content and can still do your trips...throw in all your merchandise...growing it....should be awesome! Congratulations!
