    I'd rather get back into SecondLife than any of this Metaverse business. Definitely need to up the quality of the environment and models cause it doesn't look impressive at all.

    I'm sure a few out of touch CEOs will still dump money into this outdated, awful idea, but most consumers realize it's nothing new or just 20 years behind real tech/gaming studios that actually have a passion and make innovative stuff without the "metaverse" buzzword.

    I think the worst thing was to put a version of 'MetaZuck' in the advertising. The prospect of bumping into him in there is enough to put anyone off!

    As a game-dev, I thought this was a solid video! However, I don't think interest in VR or Metaverse in general has died down; Interest in Meta Horizon Worlds has (People tend to confuse the two). Meta has laid off more than 21,000 employees since November '21, and they're planning on cutting more! Zuckerberg has also had the audacity to call this year his "Year of efficiency." Moral is low, and there's a deep mistrust forming around Zuckerberg and his inner-circle.
    Consumers and players are rediscovering SecondLife and VRChat because the Metaverse hype has significantly diminished. What they are effectively making is a video game environment for businesses, but they don't seem to realize that. That's how you get bizarre keynotes hyping up "legs" and horrible 3D modeling tools. I can't help but be joyed by Meta's failure in this endeavor. Personally, I think It's a good idea, but the execution is absolute dog***t. As a company, Meta has spent over 1 TRILLION DOLLARS trying to make Metaverse!! and they're going to lose more! What they need is a director with a dirt-simple, clear-as-glass, vision that they can laser-focus on. Instead of promising to be everything and the kitchen sink. Zuckerberg is being a Todd Howard or Peter Molineux, when he needs a Glenn Schofield or a Shigeru Miyamoto.
    To put it in perspective, Rockstar Game's initial budget for creating GTA V & GTA Online, respectively, was 500 million USD. or 637 million, when adjusted for inflation.
    Nowadays, I think it's more common for AAA games to cost at least 1 billion to make. The games industry makes more money than music and movies combined.
    The US Department of Defense gets to distribute 2 Trillion dollars to Army, Navy, Airforce, Marine Corps, Special Services, etc.
    Meta has dumped the equivalent of half the budget of the largest military on Earth. And all they have to show for it are 200,000 players per month, Last February, they used to have 300,000, and it's getting smaller every month. Their objective was 500,000 at the end of the year.
    The novelty is gone. They shot wide, and missed their target by a mile.
    I think It's time for Meta give Mark Zuckerberg some legs-- So that he can use them when they give him his walking papers... 🦵👋

    I think the Metaverse will die. It's ahead of its time. VR definitely has potential, but it's being bought by niche gamers, it's still too cumbersome and expensive for your average person to get involved with. If VR could somehow be used with smartphones, or glasses, or something, it would be a lot more usable by your typical person.
    Basically, Zuck wasn't wrong, but he jumped the gun and he's about to lose a lot of money for his bad timing.

      This. If VR could be run smoothly on existing tech like our phones. It would take off. Just like how mobile gaming has come a long way on mobile.

    • @wolfielagg
      @wolfielagg Před rokem +3

      Well yes but also no. The way you said it implies Zuck is some visionary ahead of his time when in reality Metaverse is just an absolute shitshow as a product and a platform overall that was horribly managed by him.
      If there ever is a future for anything like this, it wouldn't be Zuck who could ever get it moving. This would have failed even if people had better access to VR.
      If anything I feel like Metaverse shows well why all those memes of Zuck not being a human exists. He doesn't seem to even understand his own userbase.

    I loved the idea of metavers i was very happy and excited when heard about it but they didn't execute it right from the start and it went downhill from there
